Background: Numerous cementless total hip replacement (THR) systems are available for application in dogs and one of the potential differences among these systems is the technique for performing a femoral osteotomy and the amount of bone preserved in the calcar region. However, no quantitative comparison of osteotomy level has been performed for canine THRs to date.
Aims: To develop and validate a method for quantifying the level of the osteotomy at its most distomedial aspect in conjunction with canine THR and to compare osteotomy level between multiple different THRs.

Introduction: Cephalomedullary nails (CMN) have proven to be effective for the fixation of unstable pertrochanteric hip fractures, but limited data exists regarding the degree of shortening that occurs with nailing systems that offer "dynamically" versus "statistically" locked helical blades. This study aimed to determine the incidence, timing, and amount of postoperative fracture shortening in patients with pertrochanteric hip fractures treated with "dynamically" versus "statistically" locked helical blades.
Methods: A retrospective review was performed on patients requiring operative fixation of pertrochanteric fractures.

Exercise interventions targeting older adults often focus on acute changes, but lasting improvements require the adoption of long-term, independent exercise habits. This study aimed to assess the influence of eight-weeks of resistance training (SSSH) on clinically relevant fall-risk indicators in older adults and to evaluate if SSSH participation altered independent exercise engagement 12 months later. Sixty adults aged 50 yrs+ were randomised into SSSH, Walk, or Control groups and completed questionnaires and muscle strength and flexibility tests pre/post 8 weeks.

All eleven-year-old girls want to do is play and be active like every other child her age. Yet, the ability to have a normal childhood for one of our patients became a concern when she and her parents noticed an abnormal lateral curvature in her spine, which was later diagnosed as adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. In February 2014, she presented with a 45° thoracic deformity with a high risk of progression.

Introduction: Maximizing patient satisfaction is now a significant focus in many outpatient orthopedic clinics as it has been shown to affect many facets of healthcare. With this quality improvement study, we sought to determine the areas of the longest patient wait time during their clinical encounter and evaluate the effect of an identification card system on those times. We hypothesized that utilizing an identification card system would expedite the time patients spend in the clinic and decrease wait times.

Baseball is unique in its multiple facets: pitching, hitting, base rounding, and fielding are distinct activities that require different athletic skills to perform at a high level. Likewise, these different aspects of the game can contribute to a multitude of varying injuries. While high-velocity overhead throwing, along with batting, can produce a plethora of upper extremity injuries that often garner attention, injuries to the lower extremity can severely impact a player's performance and ability to compete.

The Osteochondral Allograft Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scoring System (OCAMRISS) provides a reproducible method for imaging-based grading for osteochondral allograft (OCA) transplants. However, the OCAMRISS does not account for larger whole-surface OCA shell grafts, and has not been validated for assessing outcomes after shell OCA transplantation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate a modified OCAMRISS for assessing single-surface shell OCAs in the knee based on strength of correlations for a modified OCAMRISS score with graft success and patient-reported outcomes for pain and function.
