The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has developed an Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) for Treatment of Shoulder Osteoarthritis with Intact Rotator Cuff and Severe Glenoid Retroversion. Evidence-based information, in conjunction with the clinical expertise of physicians, was used to develop the criteria to determine the appropriateness of various treatments of shoulder osteoarthritis with intact rotator cuff and severe glenoid retroversion. The AUC for Treatment of Shoulder Osteoarthritis with Intact Rotator Cuff and Severe Glenoid Retroversion were derived by identifying scenarios evident during the clinical decision-making process on this topic.

Background: The ankle is one of the anatomic sites most frequently injured in National Football League (NFL) players. Ankle injuries have previously been shown to have long-lasting negative impacts, and have been associated with impaired athletic performance. The aim of this study was to use fantasy football points as a metric to evaluate the impact of ankle injuries on NFL offensive skill player performance.

We report a chronic Morel-Lavallée lesion around the knee in a competitive high schooler softball player, successfully treated with video-assisted endoscopic debridement. Endoscopic surgery is a viable option to treat Morel-Lavallée lesions in active patients who seek a rapid return to sport. The potential advantages of an endoscopic treatment would be a faster healing process and an earlier return to motion and function due to a less morbid and more cosmetic surgical approach.

Posteromedial elbow impingement due to valgus extension overload often develops as a result of excessive valgus and extension force during repetitive overhead throwing activities. Impingement classically occurs in throwing athletes such as baseball, tennis, softball, or lacrosse players. If isolated, arthroscopic removal of the posteromedial olecranon osteophytes shows excellent postoperative satisfaction, return to sport rates, and return to previous level of activity.

Glenoid bone loss in patients with recurrent anterior shoulder instability poses a unique challenge to treating surgeons. Various bone block procedures have been used to reconstruct the glenoid, including autologous coracoid transfer, iliac crest autograft, distal clavicle autograft, and distal tibia allograft. Distal tibia allograft has been increasingly used because of its advantages over autologous graft sources.

Aims: The aim of this study was to establish consensus statements on the diagnosis, nonoperative management, and indications, if any, for medial patellofemoral complex (MPFC) repair in patients with patellar instability, using the modified Delphi approach.
Methods: A total of 60 surgeons from 11 countries were invited to develop consensus statements based on their expertise in this area. They were assigned to one of seven working groups defined by subtopics of interest within patellar instability.

Aims: The aim of this study was to establish consensus statements on medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, anteromedialization tibial tubercle osteotomy, trochleoplasty, and rehabilitation and return to sporting activity in patients with patellar instability, using the modified Delphi process.
Methods: This was the second part of a study dealing with these aspects of management in these patients. As in part I, a total of 60 surgeons from 11 countries contributed to the development of consensus statements based on their expertise in this area.

Treatment options for symptomatic cartilage loss in the ankle are not consistently effective. This study documents initial outcomes for patients undergoing bipolar OCAT in the ankle after advances in tissue preservation, transplantation techniques, and patient management strategies were implemented. Patients were prospectively enrolled into a registry designed to follow outcomes after OCAT in the ankle.

The annual demand for knee arthroplasty has been steadily rising, particularly in younger patients. The primary objective of this systematic review was to determine the impact of knee arthroplasties on knee function and activity levels in young (≤55 years) patients. A PubMed search from inception (1977) to March 2022 to identify eligible studies produced 640 peer-reviewed studies for consideration.

Over recent decades, the prevalence of women in surgical subspecialties has increased. There has been a significant rise in the percentage of women entering integrated plastic surgery programs and an increase, albeit smaller, in women entering orthopedic surgery training programs. Although female membership in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand has steadily increased, women remain in the vast minority within this professional society and many others within the field of hand surgery.

Functional assessments identify biomechanical issues which may indicate risk for injury and can be used to monitor functional recovery after an injury or surgery. Although the gold standard to assess functional movements is marker-based motion capture systems, these are cost prohibitive and have high participant burden. As such, this study was conducted to determine if a markerless motion capture system could detect preinjury differences in functional movements between those who did and did not experience a noncontact lower extremity injury (NCLEI).

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess patellar tendon (PT) and quadriceps tendon (QT) thickness on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), in both the sagittal and axial planes, at multiple points along each tendon, and to correlate these findings to anthropometric patient data before anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery.
Methods: Patients who underwent PT or QT autograft ACL reconstruction between 2020 and 2022 and who had preoperative MRIs with adequate visualization of the proximal QT and distal PT were retrospectively identified Patient demographics were recorded (age, height, weight, sex, injury side). Preoperative MRI measurements were performed by 3 independent examiners using standardized protocol.

Health literacy is defined as "the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic medical information and services and the competence to use such information and services to enhance health." Much of the research regarding health literacy in orthopaedic surgery has focused on readability of educational materials. However, the role of health literacy in patient-reported outcomes is somewhat unknown.

Background: This study presents surgical techniques used in conversion total knee arthroplasty (cTKA) following early failure of large osteochondral allograft joint replacement and compares postoperative patient reported outcomes measures (PROMs) and satisfaction scores with a contemporary primary total knee arthroplasty (pTKA) cohort.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 25 consecutive cTKA patients (26 procedures) to define the utilized surgical techniques, radiographic disease severity, preoperative and postoperative PROMs (visual analog scale [VAS] pain, knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score for joint replacement [KOOS-JR], University of California Los Angeles Activity), expected improvement and postoperative satisfaction (5-point Likert), and reoperations in comparison with an age and body mass index propensity matched cohort of 50 pTKA performed for osteoarthritis (52 procedures).
Results: Revision components were used in 12 cTKA cases (46.

Purpose: The use of vertebral body tethering (VBT) for the treatment of main thoracic deformities in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients is becoming increasingly more common, but limited data exist on its safety and efficacy in thoracolumbar deformities. We aimed to evaluate the postoperative outcomes of patients with thoracolumbar (TL) deformities that were treated with VBT.
Methods: We assessed clinical and radiographic data from twenty-eight consecutive patients that were surgically managed with VBT, all of whom exhibited a TL deformity with at least two years (mean: 44.

Unlabelled: Focal cartilage defects of the knee are painful and difficult to treat, especially in younger patients. Seen in up to 60% of patients who undergo knee arthroscopy, chondral lesions are most common on the patella and medial femoral condyle. Although the majority of lesions are asymptomatic, a variety of treatment options exist for those that are symptomatic; however, no clear gold-standard treatment has been established.

Soft tissue traumas with tendon lacerations are challenging injuries to manage. Repair of these tendon injuries can be complicated by adhesions postoperatively, limiting patient function and satisfaction. Biologic agents have been developed to optimize tendon gliding after repair and can be used as adjuncts.
