Endobronchial mucormycosis diagnosed by fiberoptic bronchoscopy.

IDCases

May 2023

Radiodiagnosis Department, Misr International Hospital, 12 Ismail Abou El-Fotouh, Ad Doqi A, Dokki, Cairo, Giza Governorate 3753421, Egypt.

Introduction: Endobronchial mucormycosis is very rare with only few cases reported in the literature. Here, we report a rare presentation of pulmonary mucormycosis in a diabetic patient who presented with left lung collapse. Bronchoscopy revealed an endobronchial growth, mimicking a tumor, causing complete occlusion of the left main bronchus.

Background: Resistance to the action of rituximab (RTX) has been documented in several diseases. More recently, obinutuzumab (OBZ) has shown promise where RTX has failed in oncology and lupus nephritis. Unlike RTX, OBZ is a weak activator of complement, which may avoid the false-positive complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) crossmatch tests after RTX infusions.

Transplantation in the era of the Covid-19 pandemic: How should transplant patients and programs be handled?

Rev Med Virol

January 2021

Service de Néphrologie, Hémodialyse, Aphérèseset Transplantation Rénale, CHU Grenoble-Alpes, Grenoble, France.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, transplant programs worldwide have been severely impacted with dwindling numbers of transplantations performed and a complete halt in several areas. In this review we examine whether SARS-CoV-2 infection presents differently in transplant recipients, whom and how we should test, how susceptible the transplant population is to overt infection and describe the range of outcomes. From retrieved published reports on SARS-CoV-2infections in 389solid organ transplant recipients reported in the literature, the overall mortality rate was 16.

Impact of Adopting Routine Luminex-Based Pretransplant Assessment of HLA Antibodies on Clinical Practice and Outcomes in Kidney Transplantation.

Transplant Proc

September 2019

Service de Néphrologie, Hémodialyse, Aphérèses et Transplantation Rénale, CHU Grenoble-Alpes, Grenoble, France; Université Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that detection of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) antibodies by solid phase Luminex assays predicts renal allograft outcomes. However, several controversies exist regarding the interpretation, reproducibility, impact and financial feasibility of global utilization of this assay in pretransplant assessment.

Methods: We studied short-term patient-centered outcomes, medical standards of care, and financial plausibility of using Luminex-based screening for HLA antibodies in renal allograft recipients compared to outcomes in nontested patients.

This study evaluated the influence of chemical activation of oocytes in cases with abnormal sperm morphology and previous low intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) fertilization rate. Fertilization, early cleavage and embryo quality were assessed according to individual abnormal sperm morphology with or without chemical activation of oocytes after ICSI in 56 consecutive cycles with different types of abnormal sperm morphology (A = amorphous head, B = tapered head, C = bent neck) having a history of previous failed or low fertilization rate. Chemical activation significantly increased fertilization rate in subgroup A (82.

Metformin reduces abortion in pregnant women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Gynecol Endocrinol

December 2006

Misr International Infertility & IVF Center, Misr International Hospital, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Cairo University, Cairo, Egypt.

Background: Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are considered to be at increased risk of miscarriage. Since metformin has beneficial effects on the risk factors contributing to first-trimester abortion in PCOS patients, we hypothesized that metformin - owing to its metabolic, endocrine, vascular and anti-inflammatory effects - may reduce the incidence of first-trimester abortion in PCOS women.

Materials And Methods: A prospective cohort study was set up to determine the beneficial effects of metformin on PCOS patients during pregnancy.

Use of metformin for prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome: a novel approach.

Reprod Biomed Online

August 2006

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Cairo University, Misr International Hospital, 40, Abdel Rehim Sabry St, Dokki, Cairo, Egypt.

In the present study, which includes 287 participants, metformin has been used by women undergoing IVF/intracytoplasmic sperm injection for more than 5 weeks before and during treatment and during luteal phase. There was no significant difference in number of gonadotrophins used, days of stimulation, number of oocytes retrieved, and number of embryos replaced. There was no significant difference in clinical pregnancy rate between both groups but there was significant reduction in the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in the group taking metformin.
