Background: A total of 12 modifiable risk factors account for 40% of dementia cases globally, yet population adherence to health behaviors associated with these factors is low. Midlife is a critical window for dementia prevention, as brain pathology often begins to accumulate years or decades before the onset of symptoms. Although multidomain behavioral interventions have been efficacious in reducing the risk of cognitive decline, adherence is low.

Background: Type I interferons (IFN-I) are potent alarm factors that initiate cancer cell elimination within tumors by the immune system. This critical immune response is often suppressed in aggressive tumors, thereby facilitating cancer immune escape and unfavorable patient outcome. The mechanisms underpinning IFN-I suppression in tumors are incompletely understood.

Objective: Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) is a centromedullary spinal cord disorder mainly affecting crossing fibers. While contact heat evoked potentials (CHEPs) are sensitive in detecting DCM by testing spinothalamic integrity, somatosensory evoked potentials (dSSEPs) show unaffected dorsal column conduction. Intra-epidermal electrically evoked potentials (IEEPs) have unknown spinal propagation after noxious stimulation.

The science of developmental psychopathology has made outstanding progress over the past 40 years in understanding adaptive and maladaptive developmental processes across the life span. Yet most of this work has been researcher driven with little involvement of community partners in the research process, limiting the potential public health significance of our work. To continue to advance the field we must move beyond the physical and conceptual walls of our research laboratories and into the real world.

Background: The perseverative cognition hypothesis stipulates that rumination (repetitive, passive, uncontrollable negative thinking) prolongs the experience of a stressor which impacts stress physiology. In line with this hypothesis, we proposed that in response to real-life experiences of social rejection, adolescent girls who ruminate would show a blunted diurnal cortisol slope the next day relative to girls who do not ruminate. We also examined the effects of social rejection and rumination on waking cortisol levels and the cortisol awakening response.

Background: Pancreatic steatosis has been associated with obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Studies in adults have demonstrated improvement in pancreatic steatosis following sleeve gastrectomy (SG) with concomitant improvement in glucose homeostasis.
Objectives: To examine changes in pancreatic steatosis in youth with severe obesity 24 months following SG.

Unlabelled: The measurement of urinary sodium excretion provides valuable information about an individual's sodium balance and can help in the management of various medical conditions. However, the collection of 24-hour urine samples is subject to errors. Spot urine sodium (uNa) measurements are a reliable alternative to 24-hour urine collections for estimating urinary sodium excretion.

Objective: Prior research has found that plant-based diets (PBDs) are rated as acceptable and have similar levels of adherence as compared to other therapeutic dietary approaches; however, previous studies were mostly among white populations. Plant-based diets can produce clinically meaningful weight loss, but outcomes may vary by level of adherence. The goal of this study was to examine the differences in weight and lipids among participants in the Nutritious Eating with Soul study based on adherence to their diet assignment.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent, chronic joint disorder affecting millions of people worldwide, characterized by articular cartilage degradation, subchondral bone remodeling, synovial cytokine secretion, and osteophyte formation. OA primarily affects the hips, knees, hands, and spine. Patients with OA exhibit a higher prevalence of cardiovascular comorbidities and potentially important associations between OA and cardiovascular diseases have prompted investigations into potentially similar pathophysiological associations.

Existing research on Latino cultural factors mainly focuses on gender and nationality, often overlooking sexual orientation and giving limited attention to the experiences of Latino sexual minority men in the United States of America (USA). This study addressed this gap by exploring how sexual minority men identify, describe and experience Latino cultural factors. Between April and December 2019, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 28 men (ages 18-40, 43% non-US-born) in the greater Miami, Florida area to explore their engagement in HIV prevention and behavioural health services.

MYC deregulation occurs in the majority of multiple myeloma cases and is associated with progression and worse prognosis. Enhanced MYC expression occurs in about 70% of patients with multiple myeloma, but it is known to be driven by translocation or amplification events in only ∼40% of myelomas. Here, we used CRISPR interference to uncover an epigenetic mechanism of MYC regulation whereby increased accessibility of a plasma cell-type-specific enhancer leads to increased MYC expression.
