Draw+: network-based computational drug repositioning with attention walking and noise filtering.

Health Inf Sci Syst

December 2025

Division of Software, Yonsei University, Mirae Campus, Yeonsedae-gil 1, Wonju-si, 26493 Gangwon-do Korea.

Purpose: Drug repositioning, a strategy that repurposes already-approved drugs for novel therapeutic applications, provides a faster and more cost-effective alternative to traditional drug discovery. Network-based models have been adopted by many computational methodologies, especially those that use graph neural networks to predict drug-disease associations. However, these techniques frequently overlook the quality of the input network, which is a critical factor for achieving accurate predictions.

Improving Recovery of Diatoms Bio-Silica Using Chemical Treatment with VAUS.

Materials (Basel)

November 2024

Department of Dentistry, College of Medicine, Ewha Womans University, Seoul 07804, Republic of Korea.

High-temperature baking is a typical method to remove organic matter from diatoms, but it is not suitable for bio-silica because of the high crystallinity. This study provides a method using the VAUS to remove organic matter from diatoms more quickly and biocompatibly. The optimal frequency for organic matter removal was investigated for domestically produced .

Deubiquitinase inhibitor bAP-15 suppresses renal epithelial to mesenchymal transition via inhibition of p300 stability.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

December 2024

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Severance Medical Research Institute, Graduate School of Medical Science, Brain Korea 21 Project, Yonsei University College of Medicine, Seoul, 03722, South Korea. Electronic address:

Renal fibrosis is an irreversible disease that is common in patients with chronic kidney disease. Elevated levels of the histone acetyltransferase p300 have been reported in various fibrotic diseases, including renal fibrosis, suggesting that p300 may be a promising therapeutic target. To investigate the specific deubiquitinase (DUB) involved in the regulation of p300 protein stability in renal epithelial cells, we tested 13 DUB inhibitors using a kidney tubular epithelial cell line.

Conversion of N-doped biochar from carotenoid-extracted Tetraselmis suecica and its application to produce supercapacitors.

J Environ Sci (China)

May 2025

Department of Biotechnology, Sangmyung University, 20 Hongjimun 2-Gil, Jongno-Gu, Seoul 03016, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

Microalgae are one of the promising feedstocks for biorefinery, contributing significantly to net-zero emissions through carbon capture and utilization. However, the disposal of microalgal byproducts from the manufacturing process causes additional environmental pollution, thus, a new application strategy is required. In this study, the Tetraselmis suecica byproduct from the carotenoid extraction process was carbonized and converted into biochar.

Mental health vulnerability in multicultural families: Risk factors among homogenous country.

Glob Ment Health (Camb)

October 2024

Division of Health Administration, Yonsei University Mirae Campus, Wonju, Republic of Korea.

We investigate the mental health of multicultural families (CFs) in South Korea, identify risk factors, and propose interventions to improve mental health. Adults over 19 years of age were analyzed using the Community Health Survey 2019 in South Korea, consisting of 228,952 individuals including 3,524 from multi-CFs. We employed chi-squared tests and multiple logistic regression to compare mental health between multi- and mono-CFs, exploring the influence of various factors.

Accessory nerve (CNXI) has been known to be the primary conduit for motor control of the trapezius, while the supplementary cervical nerves (C3 and C4) are responsible for processing sensory information from muscle. However, the lack of substantial direct evidence has led to these conclusions being regarded as mere speculation. This study used immunostaining (using antibodies against neurofilament 200 for all axons, choline acetyltransferase for cholinergic axons, tyrosine hydroxylase for sympathetic axons, and alpha 3 sodium potassium ATPase for proprioceptive afferent axons) of human samples to verify the functional contributions of nerves.

Porcine oocytes undergo maturation (IVM) for 42-44 h. During this period, most oocytes proceed to metaphase and then to pro-metaphase if the nucleus has sufficiently matured. Forty-four hours is sufficient for oocyte nuclear maturation but not for full maturation of the oocyte cytoplasm.

Article Synopsis
  • Prime editing (PE) is a new genome-editing method that offers flexible editing capabilities, yet its use in human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) has not been thoroughly explored.
  • The study focused on using PE to create isogenic hiPSC lines to better model hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT1), a genetic disorder, aiming for more accurate representations of human genetics compared to previous animal models.
  • Results showed that PE could successfully introduce specific mutations in hiPSCs without affecting their pluripotency or genetic integrity, enhancing the understanding of disease mechanisms and potential therapies.

Unlabelled: The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential of discoidal polymeric particles (DPPs) coated with macrophage membranes as a novel drug delivery system. The study aimed to determine whether these coated particles could reduce phagocytosis, and target specific organs, thereby enhancing drug delivery efficacy. In this study, discoidal polymeric particles (DPPs) were synthesized by a top-down fabrication method serving as the core drug delivery platform.

Introduction: Neurogenesis in the adult brain may play an important role in memory and cognition; however, knowledge of neurogenic markers in the human brain remains limited. We compared the single-nucleus transcriptome of the hippocampus with that of other cortical regions to identify hippocampus-specific neurogenic markers.

Methods: We analyzed 26,189 nuclei from four human brains collected within 16 h of death.

Religion, personality, or none of them? Exploratory evidence on their correlations with economic preference parameters.

Front Psychol

August 2024

EastAsia International College, Yonsei University, Mirae Campus, Wonju, Republic of Korea.

Introduction: Previous empirical research in the social sciences suggests sizable differences across religious denominations for various outcomes of interest, such as educational attainment, marital stability, wealth, or fertility. A small body of previous experimental literature has investigated possible differences in economic preference parameters (including time preference and risk attitude) between religious denominations that might explain those differences.

Methods: This research adds to the extant literature on religion and preferences by including information on subjects' Big Five personality traits and analyzing potential correlations with loss aversion.
