Purpose: To investigate the survival and durability of clinical improvements after hip arthroscopy (HA) for femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) at a minimum of 10-year follow-up.

Methods: Data from patients who underwent HA for FAIS between March 2003 and May 2012 were collected and retrospectively reviewed. Patients who underwent evaluation at a minimum 10-year follow-up, assessed according to the Hip Outcome Score (HOS)-Activities of Daily Living, HOS-Sport-Specific Subscale, and Non-arthritic Hip Score, were included.

Background: Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is the most common leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children; so, early identification of patients with CAP, who are at risk of complications or high mortality, is very critical to identify patients who need early admission to the intensive care unit.

Purpose Of The Study: To explore the prognostic value of Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), Proadrenomedullin and Copeptin in the prediction of complicated CAP in children.

Methods: 99 children were enrolled in the study, which was done at the Pediatric Department of Minia University Hospital.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the effectiveness of endoscopic gluteus maximus tendon release in patients suffering from external snapping hip syndrome, focusing on their recovery and muscle strength afterward.
  • Out of 25 patients, 22 completed the study and all reported significant improvements in pain and hip function, as measured by various scoring systems.
  • While there was a notable reduction in thigh circumference on the treated side, muscle strength remained unchanged, suggesting the surgery is effective without impairing functionality.

Aim: The goal of this study is to investigate how urinary angiostatin, vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) and established measures of renal function relate to specific histologic findings in paired kidney biopsy samples from patients with lupus nephritis (LN).

Method: Urine samples were collected from 54 LN patients together with paired kidney biopsy samples and examined for urinary angiostatin and VCAM-1 protein levels. Nonparametric tests were used to examine the association of both urinary biomarkers and established traditional laboratory markers of renal function with nine specific renal histologic features seen in LN, including glomerular leukocyte infiltration, endocapillary proliferation, cellular crescents, fibrinoid necrosis, wire loops, interstitial inflammation, glomerulosclerosis, fibrous crescents, tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis.

Global cardiac risk assessment in the Registry Of Pregnancy And Cardiac disease: results of a registry from the European Society of Cardiology.

Eur J Heart Fail

May 2016

Department of Cardiology, Erasmus MC, Thoraxcenter, Department of Cardiology Ba583a, PO Box 2040, 3000, CA, Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to validate the modified WHO (mWHO) risk classification for predicting cardiac events in pregnant women with heart disease across advanced and emerging countries, while identifying additional risk factors.
  • The research involved 2,742 pregnant women with heart disease, revealing a higher occurrence of cardiac events in emerging countries (36.3%) compared to advanced ones (12.8%), and highlighting different prevalent heart conditions in each region.
  • Although the mWHO classification effectively predicts risk in advanced countries (c-statistic 0.726), its performance declines in emerging countries (0.633); incorporating pre-pregnancy health indicators could enhance risk assessment and counseling efforts in both settings.

Essential hypertension is an important risk factor for target organ damage. The brain is among the target organs infrequently visited. The authors evaluated whether an abnormal Mini-Mental Score Examination (MMSE) score predicts uncontrolled hypertension even if office blood pressure is normal.

Expression of IFN-γ, IL-4, and IL-17 in cutaneous schistosomal granuloma.

Int J Dermatol

August 2014

Department of Dermatology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Andrology, Al-Minya University Hospital, Al-Minya University, Al-Minya, Egypt.

Objectives: Cutaneous schistosomal granuloma (CSG) is a rare dermatological disease, the clinical and histopathological features of which are well defined. Although a panoramic picture of its immunopathogenesis in humans is not yet available, it is believed to be induced by T helper 1 (Th1), Th2, or Th17 cytokines in animals. This study evaluated the expression of different types of Th cytokines, including Th1 cytokine interferon-γ (IFN-γ), Th2 cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4), and Th17 cytokine IL-17, in human CSG.

Multimodality treatment of cerebral arteriovenous malformations.

World Neurosurg

October 2014

Department of Neurosurgery, Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom.

Background: Many arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) can be treated with one modality, but with increasing complexity a combination of techniques, including surgical excision, embolization, and radiosurgery, may be beneficial. The 2 senior authors' experience in the multimodal management of AVMs from 1980-2008 is reported, including the results in all patients with rehemorrhage while awaiting treatment or after partial initial treatment has begun. The series contains a disproportionately high number of Spetzler-Martin grade IV and V lesions, owing to the nature of the referral practice.

Office microlaparoscopic intrafallopian transfer of day one zygote versus day three embryo transfer after previous failed ICSI trials.

Afr J Reprod Health

June 2011

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, College of Medicine, El-Minya University, El-Minya University Hospital, Egypt.

The objective of the study was to investigate whether transferring zygotes on day 1 would result in similar pregnancy rates compared to transferring cleavage stage embryos on day 3 in a prospective randomized trial, using the office microlaparoscopic procedure. Patients undergoing IVF/ICSI treatments were randomized to either day 1 or day 3 transfers after previous failed ICSI trials due to failed implantation. The primary outcome measure was pregnancy rate.

Background And Aim: The association of hepatitis C virus genotype 4 (HCV-4) with hepatic steatosis has not been clarified. We aimed to determine the parameters associated with steatosis among HCV-4 patients and to assess the effect of steatosis on treatment with peginterferon and ribavirin.

Methods: In a prospective study; 131 nondiabetic genotype 4 CHC patients were enrolled for analysis, treated with peginterferon-α-2b/ribavirin.

Sildenafil citrate is a selective phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor and partial phosphodiesterase 6 inhibitor prescribed for erectile dysfunction. Post-marketing case reports of nonarteritic anterior ischaemic optic neuropathy (NAION) over the past few years suggest a potential link with PDE-5 inhibitors. We report a case of a 48-year-old male patient who had acute vision loss 36 h after the intake of 50 mg sildenafil citrate.

Background: The histopathologic changes characteristic of psoriasis might be related to suppressed apoptosis. The P53 and Bcl-2 proteins play a central role in the regulation of apoptosis. This study aimed to evaluate P53 and Bcl-2 expression and apoptotic cells in the psoriatic skin before and after topical calcipotriol therapy.
