Alzheimer disease (AD) is a complex and progressive neurodegenerative disorder that accounts for the majority of individuals with dementia. Here, we aim to identify causal plasma proteins for AD, shedding light on the etiology of AD. We utilized the latest large-scale plasma proteomic data from the UK Biobank Pharma Proteomics Project (UKB-PPP) and AD genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary data from the International Genomics of Alzheimer's Project (IGAP).

Optimizing hepatitis B virus seroprotection in thoracic organ transplantation: The role of HepB-CpG (Heplisav-B) vaccination schedule.

Introduction: Heplisav-B, a CpG-adjuvanted recombinant hepatitis B virus (HBV) vaccine, has a higher seroprotection rate and immunogenicity than the conventional HBV vaccine. Person-centered coaching provided by clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) is an effective, acceptable, and feasible evidence-based intervention. Psychosocial distress experienced by older adults and their families during transitions of care can contribute to adverse events. CNS coaching demonstrated increased self-reported preparedness for healthcare transitions and knowledge-of-care options.

A hybrid meta on-top functional for multiconfiguration pair-density functional theory.

Multiconfiguration pair-density functional theory (MC-PDFT) was proposed a decade ago, but it is still in the early stage of density functional development. Objective: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM) shows varying levels of improvement after surgical treatment. While some patients improve soon after surgery, others may take months to years to show any signs of improvement. The goal of this study was to evaluate postoperative improvement, patient-reported outcomes, and patient satisfaction up to 2 years after surgical treatment for CSM, which will help optimize the current treatment strategies and effectively manage patient expectations.

Investigation of Transformation Pathways of Polyfluoroalkyl Substances during Chlorine Disinfection.

Recent regulations on perfluorinated compounds in drinking water underscore the need for a deeper understanding of the formation of perfluorinated compounds from polyfluoroalkyl substances during chlorine disinfection. Among the compounds investigated in this study, N-(3-(dimethylaminopropan-1-yl)perfluoro-1-hexanesulfonamide (N-AP-FHxSA) underwent rapid transformation during chlorination. Within an hour, it produced quantitative yields of various poly- and per-fluorinated products, including perfluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA).

Beyond Increasing Sample Sizes: Optimizing Effect Sizes in Neuroimaging Research on Individual Differences.

Linking neurobiology to relatively stable individual differences in cognition, emotion, motivation, and behavior can require large sample sizes to yield replicable results. Given the nature of between-person research, sample sizes at least in the hundreds are likely to be necessary in most neuroimaging studies of individual differences, regardless of whether they are investigating the whole brain or more focal hypotheses. Importance: Determining spectacle-corrected visual acuity (VA) is essential when managing many ophthalmic diseases. If artificial intelligence (AI) evaluations of macular images estimated this VA from a fundus image, AI might provide spectacle-corrected VA without technician costs, reduce visit time, or facilitate home monitoring of VA from fundus images obtained outside of the clinic.

Objective: To estimate spectacle-corrected VA measured on a standard eye chart among patients with diabetic macular edema (DME) in clinical practice settings using previously validated AI algorithms evaluating best-corrected VA from fundus photographs in eyes with DME.

Methods: Five-year survivors of primary childhood cancers diagnosed between 1970-1999 in the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study with a subsequent CNS SMN were identified. Cumulative incidence rates and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) were compared among survivors diagnosed between 1970-1979 (N = 6223), 1980-1989 (N = 9680), and 1990-1999 (N = 8999).
