Background: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is a birth defect of the heart that requires long-term care and often leads to additional health complications. Effective educational strategies are essential for improving health literacy and care outcomes. Despite affecting around 40,000 children annually in the United States, there is a gap in understanding children's health literacy, parental educational burdens, and the efficiency of health care providers in delivering education.

Adverse childhood experiences and psychological, sexual, and physical forms of intimate partner violence in Nepal.

Objective: To examine the prevalence of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and intimate partner violence (IPV) among married couples in Nepal as well as the relationships among ACEs, IPV (psychological, sexual, physical), and psychological distress.

Method: The sample comprised the control group ( = 720) of a cluster randomized intervention trial among married women in Nepal. Interviewers assessed ACEs, IPV, quality of life, self-efficacy, and depressive symptoms among participants.

Controls included non-inflammatory (N = 42), AQP4-IgG-positive (N = 83), CNS infections (N = 13), and neurosarcoidosis (N = 32).

Apixaban to Prevent Covert Infarcts After Cryptogenic Stroke in Patients With Atrial Cardiopathy: A Secondary Analysis of the ARCADIA Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: In the Atrial Cardiopathy and Antithrombotic Drugs in Prevention After Cryptogenic Stroke (ARCADIA) randomized clinical trial, anticoagulation did not prevent recurrent stroke among patients with a recent cryptogenic stroke and atrial cardiopathy. It is unknown whether anticoagulation prevents covert infarcts in this population.

Objective: To test the use of apixaban vs aspirin for prevention of nonlacunar covert infarcts after cryptogenic stroke in patients with atrial cardiopathy.

Importance: Essential thrombocythemia, a clonal myeloproliferative neoplasm with excessive platelet production, is associated with an increased risk of thrombosis and bleeding. The annual incidence rate of essential thrombocythemia in the US is 1.5/100 000 persons.

Sex differences in the metabolism of glucose and fatty acids by adipose tissue and skeletal muscle in humans.

Adult males and females have markedly different body composition, energy expenditure, and have different degrees of risk for metabolic diseases. A major aspect of metabolic regulation involves the appropriate storage and disposal of glucose and fatty acids. The use of sophisticated calorimetry, tracer, and imaging techniques have provided insight into the complex metabolism of these substrates showing that the regulation of these processes varies tremendously throughout the day, from the overnight fasting condition to meal ingestion, to the effects of physical activity.

Background And Purpose: Physical therapists play a vital role in preventing and managing falls in older adults. With advancements in digital health and technology, community fall prevention programs need to adopt valid and reliable telehealth-based assessments. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity and reliability of the telehealth-based timed up and go (TUG) test, 30-second chair stand test (30s-CST), and four-stage (4-stage) balance test as functional components of the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths, and Injuries (STEADI) fall risk assessment.

Improving Patient Reported Outcome Measure Collection Through Increased Patient Outreaches: Utilization of a Return-to-Work Program.

Rationale: Patient reported outcome (PRO) measures are a critical tool to understand the patient's experience of their illness. Our institution collects PRO measures for patients receiving spine care through several modalities, including direct patient outreaches.

Aims And Objectives: We designed a quality project to increase the total number of patient outreaches within 1 year, without increasing program resources or costs, by utilizing a return-to-work program.

Electro-oxidative Deoxyfluorination of Arenes with NEt·3HF.

This report describes the design, development, and optimization of an electrochemical deoxyfluorination of arenes using a tetrafluoropyridine-derived leaving group. NEt·3HF serves as the fluoride source, and the reactions are conducted using either constant potential or constant current electrolysis in an undivided electrochemical cell. Mechanistic studies support a net oxidative pathway, in which initial single-electron oxidation generates a radical cation intermediate that is trapped by fluoride.

Introduction: We aimed to compare gait between individuals with Alzheimer's disease (AD), dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), and cognitively unimpaired (CU) individuals and to evaluate the association between gait and regional amyloid beta (Aβ) burden in AD and DLB.

Methods: We included 420 participants (70 AD, 70 DLB, 280 CU) in the Mayo Clinic Study of Aging (MCSA). Gait was assessed using a pressure-sensor walkway.

Hepatic Rupture in HELLP Syndrome: Report of Two Patients and a Review of Peripartum Surgical Care and Transfusion.

Herein, we report the cases of two patients with hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets syndrome who underwent emergent Cesarean sections that were complicated by massive hemorrhage due to undiagnosed hepatic rupture. Intraoperative General Surgery team intervention, early activation of massive transfusion protocol, hemostatic resuscitation, and transfer to ICU resulted in the survival of both patients.

While the physical health effects of obesity are well-characterized, an emerging branch of research has shown that obesity additionally plays a critical role in one's mental health. Young adults, in a pivotal transition phase in their lives, may be particularly prone to the concurrent effects of obesity and adverse mental health outcomes. The purpose of this review is to comprehensively examine existing data regarding the connection between obesity and two widely validated measures of mental health: psychological distress and depression.
