The Relationship Between Intramural Fat Accumulation and Sarcopenia on MR Enterography Exams in Patients with Crohn's Disease.

Research on magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) and sarcopenia for assessing Crohn's disease (CD) is growing. Our study examined the connections between the presence of sarcopenia, intramural fat accumulation (IFA), and clinical, laboratory, and MRE findings.This retrospective study was conducted on 112 patients with suspected or diagnosed CD who underwent 3-tesla MRE.

Relationship between retraction and refraction values in patients with Duane's retraction syndrome.

Purpose: To evaluate refractive findings in patients with unilateral Duane's retraction syndrome (DRS).

Methods: This retrospective study included 40 patients followed for unilateral DRS. Detailed ophthalmological examinations of the patients were performed.

Fast-track anesthesia in patients undergoing outpatient laparoscopic cholecystectomy: comparison of sevoflurane with total intravenous anesthesia.

Background: The use of short-acting anesthetics has introduced a "fast-track anesthesia" concept in outpatient surgery which provides discharge of the patients from operation room directly to the phase II recovery area without entering into postanesthesia care unit. The aim of this prospective and randomized study was to compare general anesthesia using sevoflurane with propofol-remifentanil-based total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) for fast-track eligibility in patients undergoing outpatient laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The secondary aim was to compare 2 discharge scoring systems: White's Fast-Tracking Scoring System (WFTSS) and Modified Aldrete Scoring Systems (MASS) with regard to postanesthesia care unit bypass rate and postoperative problems.

The effect of tacrolimus on facial nerve injury: Histopathological findings in a rabbit model.

Hypothesis: Tacrolimus helps healing of facial nerve injury.

Background: Positive effects of tacrolimus on axon regeneration and healing of injured peripheral nerves (eg. sciatic nerve) have been reported in the literature.

Re-emergence of genotype G9 during a five-and-a-half-year period in Turkish children with rotavirus diarrhea.

This study was done to understand the dynamics of rotavirus genotype distribution in Turkish children. Samples were collected from January 2006 through August 2011 from children at a hospital in Ankara. Rotavirus was detected in 28 % (241/889) of the samples.

Evaluating the Efficacy and Safety of Internal Cardioversion with Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Device for Atrial Fibrillation in Systolic Heart Failure Patients.

Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) commonly observed in patients with heart failure and cardioversion was often needed to restore the sinus rhythm. Previously, there is no study evaluating usefulness of internal cardioversion with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) device. In this study, we aimed to compare the efficacy and long-term effects of internal cardioversion with ICD devices compared to conventional external cardioversion in patients with AF and heart failure.

Evaluation of topical application and systemic administration of rosuvastatin in preventing epidural fibrosis in rats.

Background Context: Epidural fibrosis is a major challenge in spine surgery, with some patients having recurrent symptoms secondary to excessive formation of scar tissue resulting in neurologic compression. One of the most important factors initiating the epidural fibrosis is assumed to be the transforming growth factor-1β (TGF-1β). Rosuvastatin (ROS) has shown to demonstrate preventive effects over fibrosis via inhibiting the TGF-1β.

Neuroprotective effects of rosuvastatin against traumatic spinal cord injury in rats.

Rosuvastatin, which is a potent statin, has never been studied in traumatic spinal cord injury. The aim of this study was to investigate whether rosuvastatin treatment could protect the spinal cord after experimental spinal cord injury. Rats were randomized into the following five groups of eight animals each: control, sham, trauma, rosuvastatin, and methylprednisolone.

Effect of age and plaque morphology on diagnostic accuracy of dual source multidetector computed tomography coronary angiography.

Background: Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) coronary angiography represents one of the most exciting technological revolutions in cardiac imaging and it has been increasingly used in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of age and coronary plaque calcification on diagnostic accuracy of MDCT.

Methods: The patients were examined by using dual-source MDCT and conventional coronary angiography.

Objectives: In this article, our aims were to analyze and assess the data related to coronary revascularization rates, particularly in recent years.

Study Design: For this purpose, results of important studies, statistics of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and data from Turkey's Social Security Agency (SSA) were analyzed for the first time. Until recently, there has been no healthy digital database regarding revascularization rates in Turkey.

The importance of peripheral immune cells in inflammatory bowel disease.

Background/aims: Inappropriate down regulation of an activated immune system is considered as the main pathogenetic mechanism in inflammatory bowel disease. Migration of circulating cells to a diseased intestine is considered as an important factor in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. We aimed to evaluate some features of circulating immune cells in inflammatory bowel disease.
