Background: KIAA1199 is a recently identified novel gene that is upregulated in various human cancers with poor survival, but its role and the underlying mechanisms in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) remain unknown. Here, we collected tissues from 105 cases of LSCC to investigate the relationships between KIAA1199 protein expression and clinical factors.
Methods: Western blotting and real-time quantitative PCR (RT-PCR) were used for detect the protein and mRNA expression of KIAA1199 in LSCC tissue.

The emergence of novel coronavirus pneumonia which was named as coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by the World Health Organization, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has posed a serious threat to public health. Notably, COVID-19 has rapidly spread around the world and large amount of people have been infected. There is imminent need to investigate the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 and develop effective therapeutic strategies to contain the epidemic.

As a transcription coactivator, Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1)'s role in tumorigenesis is well established. However, the mechanism of YAP1-regulating long noncoding RNAs (lncRNA) in tumors is still largely unknown. Here, a YAP1 target gene, long intergenic noncoding RNA 00152 (LINC00152), which is highly expressed in colorectal cancer (CRC), is identified.

However, it still suffers from some challenges, including low energy/power density and unsatisfactory cycling stability. Here, a cross-linked graphene-caged NaV(PO)F microcubes (NVPF@rGO) composite via a one-pot hydrothermal strategy followed by freeze drying and heat treatment is reported.

Despite the current guideline's recommendation of a timely stepwise intensification therapy, the "clinical inertia", termed as the delayed treatment intensification, commonly exists in the real world, which may be partly due to the relatively little substantial evidence and no clear consensus regarding the efficacy and safety of triple oral agents in patients inadequately controlled with dual therapy. In this clinical trial performed in 237 centers in China, 5,535 type 2 diabetic patients inadequately controlled by previous therapies were treated with a stable metformin/sitagliptin dual therapy for 20 weeks. The patients who did not reach the glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) goal were then further randomized into glimepiride, gliclazide, repaglinide, or acarbose group for an additional 24-week triple therapy.

A simple and efficient method for dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction of methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben and butylparaben in real beverage samples was developed. It is making use of solidified floating organic droplets of 1-dodecanol which has low density and a proper melting point. Parameters influencing the extraction efficiency, such as the type of extraction and dispersive solvent, the volume of extraction and dispersive solvent, salt effect, pH, extraction time, were optimized and resulted in enrichment factors (EFs) of 84 for methylparaben, 103 for ethylparaben, 115 for propylparaben and 126 for butylparaben.

As an incomplete renal replacement for the patients with either acute or chronic renal failure, membrane-based hemodialysis therapy is progressing rapidly. However, the mortality and morbidity remain unacceptably high. Much effort has been put into improving the biocompatibility of the hemodialysis membranes.

Background: Perturbation of DNA methylation is frequent in cancers and has emerged as an important mechanism involved in tumorigenesis. To determine how DNA methylation is modified in the genome of primary glioma, we used Methyl-DNA immunoprecipitation (MeDIP) and Nimblegen CpG promoter microarrays to identify differentially DNA methylation sequences between primary glioma and normal brain tissue samples.
Methods: MeDIP-chip technology was used to investigate the whole-genome differential methylation patterns in glioma and normal brain tissues.
