Objectives: The Global Aging & Geriatric Experiments in Bipolar Disorder Database (GAGE-BD) project pools archival datasets on older age bipolar disorder (OABD). An initial Wave 1 (W1; n = 1369) analysis found both manic and depressive symptoms reduced among older patients. To replicate this finding, we gathered an independent Wave 2 (W2; n = 1232, mean ± standard deviation age 47.

Methods: Fifty female Wistar rats were divided randomly into 5 groups on the basis of the following tissue graft preservation solutions: group 1, lactated Ringer's; group 2, Belzer's solution; group 3, mature coconut water; group 4, green coconut water; and group 5, modified green coconut water. In group 5, the green coconut water solution was modified to obtain the same electrolyte composition as Belzer's solution.

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the immunohistochemical profile of cytokeratins (Ck) in pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL).
Methods: The tissue samples, with pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia, were collected from 37 patients (age 6-85 years old) with indolent ulcers in skin confirmed as CL. The lesions were submitted to immunolabeling for Ck pairs 4-13, 5-14, and 6-16.

The purpose of this study was to present the radiological characteristics of abdominal computed tomography (CT) in the follow-up of splenic and hepatic injury in children. Children ( n=24) less than 13 years old who had suffered blunt abdominal trauma and were diagnosed with splenic and hepatic injury by CT scan prospectively were enlisted in the study. The CT was performed immediately after the injury was suspected, and 7 and 60 days after the trauma.

Serum samples were obtained from 154 individuals infected with Entamoeba histolytica (78 symptomatic and 76 asymptomatic). Twelve had trophozoites in the feces whereas 142 had only cysts. The sera were used to test the existence of antibodies anti-Entamoeba histolytica employing the Indirect Hemagglutination (IHA), Indirect Immunofluorescence (IFAT), Complement Fixation Reaction (CFR) and Counterimmunoelectrophoresis (CIEP).

Trophozoites from cultures of Entamoeba histolytica strains isolated and grown axenically in Brazil (ICB-CSP, ICB-462 and ICB-32) were used for immune sera production and for characterization of their antigens by using electrophoretic and glycoproteic profiles, in parallel with a standard strain isolated and kept under axenic conditions in USA (HK-9). Hyperimmune sera, presenting high antibody titers with homologous and heterologous antigens, were obtained. The four strains in study revealed similar and complex electrophoretic and glycoproteic profiles showing polypeptides with molecular weights ranging from 200 to less than 29 kDa.
