Background: Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) is a condition due to maternal blood group antibodies targeting antigens in fetal red blood cells, with significant prenatal/perinatal morbidity and mortality. Severe HDFN cases are often associated with alloimmunization against Rhesus D (RhD) or Kell antigens. Information about HDFN epidemiology and treatment in Latin American countries is limited.

The resurgent navigation project known as the Hidrovia Paraguay-Paraná threatens the integrity of the Pantanal, the world's largest wetland, which is considered a biome of its own. Intensive barge navigation is intended to transport crops (soybean, sugar, corn) and cement, iron and manganese from areas of production in Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia to the oceanic ports of the Plata River. This short communication assembles the information available on the potential impacts of the planned deepening of the natural channel of the Paraguay River in its ~700 km-long upper section.

Introduction: Recognizing the necessity of novel disinfection strategies for improved bacterial control to ultimately favor tissue regeneration, this study developed and characterized antibiotics-laden silk fibroin methacrylated (SilkMA) scaffolds for regenerative endodontics.
Methods: SilkMA-based solutions (10% w/v) containing Clindamycin (CLI) or Tinidazole (TIN) (0 - control; 5, 10, or 15% w/w) or the combination of both drugs (BiMix CLI/TIN 10%) were electrospun and photocrosslinked. Morphology and composition were assessed using scanning electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy.

Background: Pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (PCME) is the most common cause of visual acuity deterioration after uncomplicated cataract surgery. There is no consensus regarding how to manage recurrent or refractory cases.
Report: A 54-year-old woman complained of decreased vision and central metamorphopsia in the right eye (OD) 3 months after uneventful cataract surgery.

Introduction: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a clonal myeloproliferative disorder characterized by the Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome. After the introduction of imatinib mesylate (IM) in 2000, the natural history of the disease changed. Data on the treatment of CML with IM are from randomized clinical trials.

Objective: Present a gnathodynamometer design that increases patient comfort, precision, and/or ease for the operator during bite force tests.
Materials And Methods: A bite tip capable of pivoting 180° was tested on senior dental students in a double-blind trial. The tests were performed in teeth 11 and 16 with the bite tip on the long axis of the clamp and at an angle of 90° to the clamp.

The yeast Cyberlindnera xylosilytica UFMG-CM-Y309 has been identified as a promising new xylitol producer from sugarcane bagasse hemicellulosic hydrolysate (SCHH). However, SCHH pretreatment process generates byproducts, which are toxic to cell metabolism, including furans, phenolic compounds, and carboxylic acids, such as acetic acid, typically released at high concentrations. This research aims to reduce acetic acid in sugarcane hemicellulose hydrolysate concomitantly with xylitol production by yeast strain Cy.

The public health system is extremely dependent on the use of vaccines to immunize the population from a series of infectious and dangerous diseases, preventing the system from collapsing and millions of people dying every year. However, to develop these vaccines and effectively monitor these diseases, it is necessary to use accurate diagnostic methods capable of identifying highly immunogenic regions within a given pathogenic protein. Existing experimental methods are expensive, time-consuming, and require arduous laboratory work, as they require the screening of a large number of potential candidate epitopes, making the methods extremely laborious, especially for application to larger microorganisms.

A simple and fast methodology under microwave irradiation for the synthesis of 2-aminopyrimidine and pyrazole derivatives using Atwal reaction is reported. After the optimization of the reaction conditions, eight 2-aminolpyrimidines containing ferrocene and heterocycles and three ferrocene pyrazoles were synthesized from the respective chalcones in good yields. Eight compounds had their structure determined by X-ray diffraction.

Purpose: To report the first patient with ocular toxoplasmosis treated with a slow-release biodegradable intravitreal clindamycin implant.
Observations: A 39-year-old human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive woman with recurrent toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis and vitritis for whom oral medication was medically contraindicated was treated with an intravitreal slow-release clindamycin implant and three monthly intravitreal injections of clindamycin and dexamethasone. Serial ophthalmologic examinations demonstrated gradual, complete resolution of posterior uveitis and healing of the retinochoroidal lesion with cicatricial changes, as well as gradual improvement of cells in the anterior chamber.

We present a critical reflection on the mechanical variable Player Load, which is based on acceleration data and commonly used in sports. Our motivation to write this paper came from the difficulties that we encountered in the calculation and interpretation of Player Load using our own data, since we did not use the Catapult Sports equipment, which is a merchandise of the company that proposed this variable. We reviewed existing literature in order to understand Player Load better; we found many inconsistencies in PL calculation methods and in the meanings attached to it.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecological malignancy, with the presence of chemoresistance contributing to the poor prognosis. Heat Shock Proteins (HSPs) genes are activated in response to pathophysiological stress and serve a role in a variety of stages in carcinogenesis, acting primarily as anti-apoptotic agents and in chemotherapy resistance in a variety of tumor types. The current study evaluated the HSP gene expression profile in women with ovarian cancer (OC) and their correlation with clinical and pathological aspects of patients with OC.

Derivatives of yeast cell wall (YCW) have been studied for their potential prebiotic effects. Recently, new purified and soluble preparations have been developed in an attempt to increase their biological actions. Two YCW preparations, one conventional and another with higher solubility of the mannan oligosaccharide fraction, were evaluated on dogs.

Despite progress in treating lupus nephritis, the incidence of end-stage chronic kidney disease has increased. Renal transplantation is the treatment of choice for these patients and has been successfully performed on systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) since 1959. The main concern in these patients is post-transplant lupus nephritis recurrence.

Studies involving different methods and techniques of cryopreservation and its interactions with the conception rates in artificial insemination (AI) programs are reported in the literature. This study evaluated the sperm kinetics, plasma membrane integrity, and fertility rates of mares inseminated with cryopreserved stallion semen subjected to different freezing methods. For this, four ejaculates from five stallions were collected and frozen in conventional (Styrofoam box) or automated system in Mini-Digitcool ZH 400.
