Acquired pure red cell aplasia after severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 infection: a case report.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019, caused by severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2, has been responsible, since December 2019, for a severe pandemic resulting in millions of deaths worldwide, and the number is still increasing. Although coronavirus disease 2019 is mostly a respiratory syndrome, it is considered a multisystemic disease and shows clinical diversity with a wide range of manifestations including hematological features.

Case Presentation: We present the case of an Arab male, 77 years old, who developed severe anemia 8 weeks after acute infection with severe acute respiratory coronavirus 2.

Follow-up strategies for patients with splenic trauma managed non-operatively: the 2022 World Society of Emergency Surgery consensus document.

Background: In 2017, the World Society of Emergency Surgery published its guidelines for the management of adult and pediatric patients with splenic trauma. Several issues regarding the follow-up of patients with splenic injuries treated with NOM remained unsolved.

Methods: Using a modified Delphi method, we sought to explore ongoing areas of controversy in the NOM of splenic trauma and reach a consensus among a group of 48 international experts from five continents (Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania, America) concerning optimal follow-up strategies in patients with splenic injuries treated with NOM.

Foreign body removal by a lung-sparing bronchotomy.

This tutorial shows how to remove an aspirated foreign body via a lung-sparing operation using a transverse bronchotomy through a transthoracic approach.  An 18-year-old woman was admitted for treatment of an aspirated foreign body. A pushpin was impacted in a subsegmental branch of the right lower lobe of her bronchus.

Association of Early Norepinephrine Administration With 24-Hour Mortality Among Patients With Blunt Trauma and Hemorrhagic Shock.

Importance: Hemorrhagic shock is a common cause of preventable death after injury. Vasopressor administration for patients with blunt trauma and hemorrhagic shock is often discouraged.

Objective: To evaluate the association of early norepinephrine administration with 24-hour mortality among patients with blunt trauma and hemorrhagic shock.

Mediastinal Bronchogenic Cysts Resection in Adults: Results of Vats and Thoracotomy Procedures.

Background: The objectives of our study are to evaluate our surgical experience of mediastinal bronchogenic cyst (MBC) and to determine the results of resection by video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) and posterolateral thoracotomy (PLT).

Methods: The demographic characteristics, clinical and radiological features intraoperative data, outcomes and fol- low-up information were reviewed and analyzed from 38 patients who underwent resection of a MBC between 2008 and 2019.

Results: cystectomy was performed for thirty eight patients included in the present study.

There are currently no data regarding characteristics of critically ill patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant of concern (VOC) 20H/501Y.V2. We therefore aimed to describe changes of characteristics in critically ill patients with Covid-19 between the first and the second wave when viral genome sequencing indicated that VOC was largely dominant in Mayotte Island (Indian Ocean).

Treatment Adherence in Patients with Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases.

COPD is the third most common cause of death globally. Adherence rates in patients with obstructive pulmonary diseases usually range between 10% and 40%. The aim of the study was to evaluate the level of treatment adherence to inhaled therapy in patients with obstructive pulmonary diseases.

Introduction: Contaminated drinking and recreational waters account for most of the reported Cryptosporidium spp. exposures in high-income countries. In June 2017, two successive cryptosporidiosis outbreaks occurred among service members in a military training camp located in Southwest France.

Analysis of Mortality in Unvaccinated Patients with COVID-19 and Cardiovascular Risk.

COVID-19 is a contagious disease that has spread globally, killing millions of people around the world. In order to reduce the likelihood of in-hospital death due to COVID-19, it is reasonable to select a group of patients with a low probability of survival and to implement measures in advance to minimize the risk of death. One way to do this is to establish cut-off values for the most commonly performed blood laboratory tests, above or below which the likelihood of death increases significantly.

Malignant transformation of a mature retroperitoneal teratoma into adenocarcinoma.

Retroperitoneal mature teratoma is a rare congenital tumor, far behind ovarian and testicular localizations. Malignant transformation of teratomas is extremely uncommon. We report a case of a 23-year-old female, who presented with chronic pelvic heaviness, abdominopelvic ultrasound revealed a cystic mass in the right iliac fossa, initially considered as a functional ovarian cyst.

Association between Periodontitis and Pulp Calcifications: Radiological Study.

Objective: The presence of intrapulpal calcifications is one of the effects reported as a consequence of periodontal pathology. Although the impact of the pulp pathology on the periodontium is obvious, the contrary remains unclear and controversial. This study was conducted in order to better understand this fact and establish a potential association between periodontitis and intrapulpal calcifications and then to determine the factors associated with their occurrence.

Bites by Non-Native Reptiles in France: Species, Circumstances and Outcome.

We aimed to make an exhaustive assessment of circumstances of bites by exotic reptiles bred in France. A retrospective observational study was conducted in all the reported cases from 2000 to 2020 in French poison control centers (PCCs). Two hundred and eighteen cases of bites were recorded.

Bacteriological aspects of bacteremia in the intensive care unit of the Mohammed V Military Hospital: 10 months prospective study.

Introduction: Bacteremia is responsible for high rates of morbidity and mortality. The increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria in intensive care units (ICU) is a growing concern. Background: Burn care is centralized in highly specialized burn centers in Europe. These centers are of limited capacity and may be overwhelmed by a sudden surge in case of a burn mass casualty incident. Prior incidents in Europe and abroad have sustained high standards of care through well-orchestrated responses to share the burden of care in several burn centers.

Atypical manifestation of a fistula between a hydatid cyst of a liver and a gallbladder: A case report.

The hydatid cyst of the liver is the most common location of hydatid disease. Complications in this form are dominated by superinfection of the cyst and rupture into the bile ducts or the peritoneal cavity. We report the case of a 54-year-old female patient with a hydatid cyst of the liver complicated by a rupture in the gallbladder revealed by urinary symptoms.

Medical Adhesives and Their Role in Laparoscopic Surgery-A Review of Literature.

Near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF) is a new method that helps identify PTGs.

Machine learning-based prediction of emergency neurosurgery within 24 h after moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.

Background: Rapid referral of traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients requiring emergency neurosurgery to a specialized trauma center can significantly reduce morbidity and mortality. Currently, no model has been reported to predict the need for acute neurosurgery in severe to moderate TBI patients. This study aims to evaluate the performance of Machine Learning-based models to establish to predict the need for neurosurgery procedure within 24 h after moderate to severe TBI.

Return to duty in military personnel after ACL reconstruction: STG versus ST4 double adjustable-loop device.

Introduction: ACL ligamentoplasty with a quadruple semitindosus graft (ST4) and double adjustable endobutton (ST4E) allow the preservation of the gracilis, which should allow more rapid recovery of soldiers following ACL reconstruction. However, the literature does not report any superiority of this technique over others in terms of return to duty and sport.

Hypothesis: The ST4E system allows a return to military duty at least equivalent to the semitendinosus and gracilis graft (STG) with screw fixation.
