Conjugated donor-acceptor (D-A) copolymers are widely used in optoelectronic devices due to their influence on the resulting properties. This study focuses on the synthesis and characterization of the conjugated D-A copolymer constructed with fluorene and di-2-thienyl-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole units, resulting in Poly[2,7-(9,9-dioctyl-fluorene)-alt-5,5-(4,7-di(2-thienyl)-2,1,3-benzothiadiazole)] (PFDTBT). The synthesis associated with reaction times of 48 and 24 h, the latter incorporating the phase-transfer catalyst Aliquat 336, was investigated.

Lateritic soils, particularly abundant in tropical regions, have been successfully used in the construction of unbound layers of flexible pavements in Brazil since the 1970s. Despite their potential, these soils are often discarded or only recommended after stabilization processes, based on traditional parameters such as gradation requirements and Atterberg limits. This study investigates the mechanical characteristics of a lateritic soil from Roraima, focusing on its resilient modulus and permanent deformation properties, assessed through repeated load triaxial tests.

The Amazon Region (AR), with its vast biodiversity and rich natural resources, presents a unique opportunity for the development of sustainable polymer composites (PCs) reinforced with residues from both timber and agro-extractivism industries. This study explores the potential of Amazonian residues, such as sawdust, wood shavings, and agro-industrial by-products such as açaí seeds and Brazil nut shells, to enhance the mechanical, thermal, and environmental properties of polymer composites. By integrating these natural materials into polymer matrices, significant improvements in the composite performance were achieved, including increased tensile strength, thermal stability, and biodegradability.

Purpose: This study focuses on analytical computer simulations performed to investigate a hypothetical event where the activation of a radiological dispersion device (RDD) triggers a crisis.
Materials And Methods: The methodology presents steps centered on the initial evaluation phase of the event (initial 100 hours), aiming to evaluate the radiological risks regarding the development of leukemia. Local environmental changes, sex, and age were also used to assess risks.

Natural lignocellulosic fibers (NLFs) have shown a great potential as reinforcements in composites in recent decades. Among other reasons, environmental concerns and the depletion of oil reserves justify research on natural composites as they offer an environmentally friendly alternative and align with the principles of sustainable development. Among the plethora of NLFs available in nature, the ubim fiber (Geonoma baculifera) has not yet been investigated as a reinforcement for composites in potential engineering applications.

The chemistry of pure cerium oxide (CeO) nanoparticles has been widely studied since the 1970s, especially for chemical catalysis. CeO nanoparticles have been included in an important class of industrial metal oxide nanoparticles and have been attributed a range of wide applications, such as ultraviolet absorbers, gas sensors, polishing agents, cosmetics, consumer products, high-tech devices and fuel cell conductors. Despite these early applications in the field of chemistry, the biological effects of CeO nanoparticles were only explored in the 2000s.

The consequences of mass radiological events, particularly those involving the activation of a radiological dispersion device (RDD), have been extensively studied by scientific groups. However, the critical initial period of such an event, usually spanning the first 100 h, can be characterized by a scarcity of information, potentially leading to delays in mitigating strategies. In response, a research group utilized computer simulations to generate solid, conservative analytical details that can aid decision-making and guide the prioritization of initial care based on variables such as age, sex, location, and local atmospheric stability conditions.

The main modifications of thermal and colorimetric parameters after thermal aging of DGEBA/TETA system (plain epoxy) and fique-fiber woven fabric-reinforced epoxy composites are described. As a preliminary study, thermal analysis was carried out on epoxy matrix composites reinforced with 15, 30, 40 and 50% fique-fiber woven fabric. After this previous analysis, the 40% composite was chosen to be thermally aged, at 170 °C.

Hybrid composites are expanding applications in cutting-edge technology industries, which need materials capable of meeting combined properties in order to guarantee high performance and cost-effectiveness. This original article aimed for the first time to investigate the hybrid laminated composite thermal behavior, made of two types of fibers: synthetic Twaron fabric and natural curaua non-woven mat, reinforcing epoxy matrix. The composite processing was based on the ballistic helmets methodology from the North American Personal Armor System for Ground Troops, currently used by the Brazilian Army, aiming at reduced costs, total weight, and environmental impact associated with the material without compromising ballistic performance.
