Background: Delirium or an acute confusional state (ACS) is characterised as being a frequent and complex hospital complication in older adult patients, which can affect their level of independence and increase patient morbidity and mortality. Critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) frequently develop ICU delirium, leading to longer hospital and ICU stays, increased mortality and long-term impairment.
Objectives: This review aims to assess existing evidence of interventions that can be considered effective for the management and prevention of delirium in ICUs, reducing short-term morbidity and mortality, ICU and hospital admission times and the occurrence of other long-term complications.

Patients heterozygous for germline CBL loss-of-function (LOF) variants can develop myeloid malignancy, autoinflammation, or both, if some or all of their leukocytes become homozygous for these variants through somatic loss of heterozygosity (LOH) via uniparental isodisomy. We observed an upregulation of the inflammatory gene expression signature in whole blood from these patients, mimicking monogenic inborn errors underlying autoinflammation. Remarkably, these patients had constitutively activated monocytes that secreted 10 to 100 times more inflammatory cytokines than those of healthy individuals and CBL LOF heterozygotes without LOH.

Introduction: Weight regain after bariatric surgery remains a relevant and worrisome topic, requiring greater understanding and involvement in research into new adjuvant treatments. This study aims to compare the preliminary effectiveness and feasibility of the Mindfulness-Based Health Promotion and Attachment-Based Compassion Therapy programs as opposed to usual treatments (workshops) on the eating behavior of patients with progressive weight gain after bariatric surgery in Brazilian patients at a private clinic. It was hypothesized that both interventions are feasible and that the self-compassion program may be more effective than the mindfulness program.

Background: We analyzed the long-term influence of fixation systems on proximal aortic neck (PAN) evolution by comparing 2 late-generation endoprostheses, Endurant (Medtronic Vascular, Minneapolis, Minn) with suprarenal fixation (SRF) and Excluder (W.L Gore & Associates, Flagstaff, Ariz) with infrarenal fixation (IRF).
Methods: Our retrospective observational study included consecutive patients undergoing endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for aorto-iliac aneurysms (2011-2020).

Background: Minimally invasive techniques have demonstrated several advantages over the open approach. In the field of prostate cancer, the LAP-01 trial demonstrated the superiority of robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) over laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) when comparing continence at 3-month after surgery, with no statistically significant differences at 6 and 12 months of follow-up.
Objectives: Externally validate the LAP-01 study and compare functional outcomes between the two minimally invasive approaches.

The timing of trauma exposure is a risk factor for the development of psychopathology in adulthood. We aim to assess the presence of adverse life events (ALEs) before age 13 in patients with eating disorders (ED). Specifically, we examined the relationship between exposure to interpersonal trauma before the age of 13 and body image distortion (BID), impulsivity, and perfectionism.

Introduction And Objective: Physicians find it difficult to take on the role of the patient and they show unusual behaviors when ill. One of these behaviors is presenteeism, which is working while sick. The objective of this research is to analyze the factors that contribute to the phenomenon of presenteeism in Spanish physicians.

Purpose: To analyze the reduction in multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) demand and prostate biopsies after the hypothetical implementation of the Barcelona risk-stratified pathway (BCN-RSP) in a population of the clinically significant prostate cancer (csCaP) early detection program in Catalonia.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective comparation between the hypothetical application of the BCN-RSP and the current pathway, which relied on pre-biopsy mpMRI and targeted and/or systematic biopsies, was conducted. The BCN-RSP stratify men with suspected CaP based on a prostate specific antigen (PSA) level >10 ng/ml and a suspicious rectal examination (DRE), and the Barcelona-risk calculator 1 (BCN-RC1) to avoid mpMRI scans.

Colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor-related adult-onset leukoencephalopathy is a primary microgliopathy characterized by a complex phenotype, which can be easily misdiagnosed with other leukoencephalopathy and neurodegenerative diseases such as frontotemporal dementia. It is estimated to be the most common adult-onset leukodystrophy. Here, we report the case of a 67-year-old man with a history of progressive impairment of behavioral and cognitive functions, including apathy, inhibition, tendency to mutism, and deficits in complex planning skills.

Small extracellular vesicle (EV) membranes display characteristic protein-lipidic composition features that are related to their cell of origin, providing valuable clues regarding their parental cell composition and real-time state. This could be especially interesting in the case of cancer cell-derived EVs, as their membranes could serve as valuable tools in liquid biopsy applications and to detect changes in the tumor malignancy. X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) is a powerful surface analysis technique able to detect every chemical element present, being also sensitive to their chemical environment.

Objective: To determine whether patients with drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy present with an alteration in the autonomic circadian regulation of blood pressure.
Methods: A prospective case‒control study was designed, with a case group comprising patients with drug-resistant mesial temporal lobe epilepsy and a control group comprising healthy volunteers. Twenty-four-hour outpatient blood pressure monitoring was performed to assess the existence of a normal (dipping) or altered (non-dipping) circadian pattern.

Background: COVID-19 shows different clinical and pathophysiological stages over time. The effect of days elapsed from the onset of symptoms (DEOS) to hospitalization on COVID-19 prognostic factors remains uncertain. We analyzed the impact on mortality of DEOS to hospitalization and how other independent prognostic factors perform when taking this time elapsed into account.

Health related quality of life (HRQoL) is a relevant result when assessing the course of different pathologies and the efficacy of their treatments. HRQoL has been studied previously on adults born small for gestational age (SGA), both in the general population and in patients who had received recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) treatment, with disparate results. Our study included 50 adults who had received rhGH treatment for the SGA indication in 4 Spanish hospitals.

PD-L1/PD-1 blockade immunotherapy has changed the therapeutic approaches for the treatment of many cancers. Nevertheless, the mechanisms underlying its efficacy or treatment failure are still unclear. Proficient systemic immunity seems to be a prerequisite for efficacy, as recently shown in patients and in mouse models.

It is unclear whether patients with cancer present inherently impaired responses to COVID-19 and vaccination due to their treatments, neoplastic diseases or both. To address this question, immune profiling was performed in three cohorts of healthy donors and oncologic patients: infected with SARS-CoV-2, BNT162b2-vaccinated, and with previous COVID-19 disease and subsequently vaccinated. Cancer patients showed good antibody responses to vaccination, but poor induction of T-cell responses towards the S protein when compared to infection.

The adaptation of liquids for patients with dysphagia requires precision and individualization in the viscosities used. We describe the variations of viscosity in water at different concentrations and evolution over time of the three compositions of commercial thickeners that are on the market (starch, starch with gums, and gum). By increasing the concentration in water, the viscosity of gum-based thickeners increases linearly, but it did not reach pudding texture, whereas the viscosity of the starch-based thickeners (alone or mixed with gums) rapidly reaches very thick textures.
