This study examined the impact of this therapy on the indicator for outpatient oral antimicrobial use.

Methods: This all-case post-marketing surveillance study included patients initiating baricitinib for rheumatoid arthritis from September 2017 to April 2019. Treatment duration was recorded.

Tazobactam/piperacillin and meropenem are commonly used as an empiric treatment in patients with severe bacterial infections. However, few studies have investigated the cause of tazobactam/piperacillin- or meropenem-induced liver injury in them. Our objective was to evaluate the association between tazobactam/piperacillin or meropenem and liver injury in the intensive care unit patients.

Hyperkalemic effect of drug-drug interaction between esaxerenone and trimethoprim in patients with hypertension: a pilot study.

Background: We examined whether the pharmacodynamic drug-drug interaction between esaxerenone and trimethoprim enhances the hyperkalemic effect.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted to identify patients >18 years undertaking esaxerenone alone or esaxerenone plus trimethoprim at Mie University Hospital from May 2019 to December 2022. We performed propensity score-matching (1:1) to compare between-group differences in the maximum change in serum potassium levels (ΔK) using the Mann-Whitney U test.

Low energy virtual monochromatic CT with deep learning image reconstruction to improve delineation of endoleaks.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the utility of low-energy virtual monochromatic imaging (VMI) combined with deep-learning image reconstruction (DLIR) in improving the delineation of endoleaks (ELs) after endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) in contrast-enhanced dual-energy CT (DECT).

Methods: A total of 61 consecutive patients (mean age, 77 years; 46 men) after EVAR who underwent contrast-enhanced DECT were enrolled. Virtual monochromatic 40- and 70-keV images were reconstructed using DLIR (TrueFidelity-H) and conventional hybrid iterative reconstruction (IR).

Effects of Irradiation During Computed Tomography Scanning on the Function of Implantable Cardioverter-defibrillators.

The effect of irradiation during computed tomography (CT) imaging on implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) has not been fully evaluated in various settings. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the occurrence of electromagnetic interference (EMI) during CT irradiation in various clinically available ICDs with phantom experiments and to determine the potential risks related to irradiation during CT imaging. Five types of clinically available ICDs from five manufacturers were tested.

Evaluating Factor VIII Concentrates Using Clot Waveform Analysis.

Pediatric duodenal stenosis caused by posttraumatic mesenteric hematoma managed with a double elementary diet tube.

A 6-year-old male child was admitted to the hospital because of abdominal trauma and acute stomach pain. Computed tomography scan revealed a jejunal mesenteric hematoma and an enhanced intestinal wall compressed by the hematoma. The patient presented with vomiting 10 days after the injury.

Background: We investigated whether the initial voriconazole (VRCZ) dosing design, as determined using simulation software with a population pharmacokinetic model of Japanese patients, impacts the effectiveness and safety when compared with VRCZ initiation according to the package insert.

Methods: In this single-center retrospective observational study, we employed records from Tosei General Hospital (a 633-bed hospital), dated April 2017 to September 2023. Eligible patients were divided into the software-based simulation group, comprising patients administered initial VRCZ dosage adjustment by pharmacists using software-based simulation, and the standard therapy group, whose dosage was administered by a physician following the package insert recommendations without simulation.

Cytomegalovirus DNA Loads in Organs of Congenitally Infected Fetus.

Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection poses significant risks to fetal development, particularly affecting the nervous system. This study reports a fetal autopsy case, examining cCMV infection and focusing on CMV DNA measurements in various fetal organs before formalin fixation, a novel approach for comprehensive CMV DNA evaluations in fetal organs affected by cCMV. A 20-week-old male fetus was diagnosed with cCMV following the detection of CMV DNA in ascites obtained via abdominocentesis in utero.

A Combination of Amide Proton Transfer, Tumor Blood Flow, and Apparent Diffusion Coefficient Histogram Analysis Is Useful for Differentiating Malignant from Benign Intracranial Tumors in Young Patients: A Preliminary Study.

Purpose: To evaluate the amide proton transfer (APT), tumor blood flow (TBF), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) combined diagnostic value for differentiating intracranial malignant tumors (MTs) from benign tumors (BTs) in young patients, as defined by the 2021 World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors.

Methods: Fifteen patients with intracranial MTs and 10 patients with BTs aged 0-30 years underwent MRI with APT, pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL), and diffusion-weighted imaging. All tumors were evaluated through the use of histogram analysis and the Mann-Whitney U test to compare 10 parameters for each sequence between the groups.

Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in managing acute respiratory distress syndrome associated with hemolytic uremic syndrome and septic shock: a case report.

Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) is a rescue therapy for severe respiratory failure in which conventional mechanical ventilation therapy is unsuccessful. Hemolysis during VV-ECMO support arises from multiple factors associated with organ damage and poor outcomes. Therefore, close and prompt monitoring is needed.

Background Immunosuppressants are administered in various combinations to prevent immune-induced transplant rejection in patients with liver transplant, as each immunosuppressant acts on different cellular sites. However, the use of multiple immunosuppressants also increases the risk for adverse events. Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the types of immunosuppressants administered without increasing the incidence of transplant rejection.

Impact of Early Rehabilitation after Endovascular Treatment for Peripheral Arterial Disease.

Objectives: The prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is on the rise, with endovascular treatment being a widely accepted surgical intervention. Patients with PAD often experience reduced activities of daily living (ADL). Therefore, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate the impact of early rehabilitation after endovascular treatment in patients with PAD.
