Purpose: The purposes of this study were to compare global coronary flow reserve (CFR) between patients with idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and risk-matched controls using cardiac MRI (CMR), and to evaluate the relationship between global CFR and CMR left ventricular (LV) parameters.
Methods: Twenty-six patients with DCM and 26 risk-matched controls who underwent comprehensive CMR examination, including stress-rest coronary sinus flow measurement by phase contrast (PC) cine CMR were retrospectively studied. LV peak global longitudinal, radial, and circumferential strains (GLS, GRS, and GCS) were determined by feature tracking.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic continues to threaten global public health. Remdesivir and monoclonal antibodies have shown promise for COVID-19 treatment of patients who are immunocompromised, including those with cancer, transplant recipients, and those with autoimmune disorder. However, the effectiveness and safety of this combination therapy for patients who are immunosuppressed remain unclear.

However, this has not been shown with adjustments for prognosis-related factors. This study aimed to determine whether frailty risk is associated with poor prognoses in acute pancreatitis patients, even after adjusting for prognosis-related factors.

Adoptive cell therapy using allogeneic γδ-T cells is a promising option for off-the-shelf T cell products with a low risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Long-term persistence may boost the clinical development of γδ-T cell products. In this study, we found that genetically modified Vγ9Vδ2 T cells expressing a tumor antigen-specific αβ-TCR and CD8 coreceptor (GMC) showed target-specific killing and excellent persistence.

Background/aim: Gangliosides (acidic glycosphingolipids) have crucial regulatory roles in normal physiological processes, as well as in pathological conditions, including tumor onset and progression. GD2 is highly expressed in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), particularly in cancer stem cells. However, little is known on the clinical impact of GD2 expression on the prognosis of TNBC.

Teicoplanin can cause acute kidney injury, but little is known about the risk of acute kidney injury when teicoplanin is co-administered with loop diuretics (a powerful diuresis), which can alter renal hemodynamics and glomerular filtration rate. We performed a signal detection analysis using a Japanese adverse event database to determine the additive impact of loop diuretics on acute kidney injury associated with teicoplanin. The dataset originated between April 2004 and August 2022.

Purpose: To determine the methylation level of the miR-124 promoter in non-neoplastic rectal mucosa of patients with pediatric-onset ulcerative colitis (UC) to predict UC-associated colorectal cancer (UC-CRC).
Methods: Between 2005 and 2017, non-neoplastic rectal tissue specimens were collected from 86 patients with UC, including 13 patients with UC-CRC; cancer tissues were obtained from the latter group. The methylation status of the miR-124 promoter was quantified using bisulfite pyrosequencing and compared between pediatric- and adult-onset UC patients.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the "improved motion-sensitized driven-equilibrium (iMSDE)"-prepared T1-weighted black blood (T1-BB) MRI for monitoring treatment effect with a flow diverter (FD) for cerebral aneurysms.
Methods: Following the exclusion of concomitant coiling and retreatment cases from 60 consecutive cases of cerebral aneurysms treated with FDs at our institution, 32 with imaging data were included in the analysis. Detectability of residual blood flow within the aneurysms was validated as follows: 1) comparison of MRI sequences (iMSDE-prepared T1-BB images, T1-weighted images [ T1WI], and time-of-flight [ TOF]-MRA) in cases of incompletely occluded aneurysms and 2) comparison of angiography and MRI sequences in the same period.

Background: Shift workers are at high risk of developing sleep disorders such as shift worker sleep disorder or chronic insomnia. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is the first-line treatment for insomnia, and emerging evidence shows that internet-based CBT is highly effective with additional features such as continuous tracking and personalization. However, there are limited studies on internet-based CBT for shift workers with sleep disorders.

Purpose: To examine the optimal timing of second ovarian stimulation using the dual stimulation method for good ovarian responders with cancer undergoing oocyte retrieval for fertility preservation.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted using data from 69 patients with cancer who underwent oocyte retrieval for fertility preservation at four Japanese institutions during 2010-2021. Twenty-two patients underwent two oocyte retrievals for fertility preservation.

Background: Accurate diagnosis of prosthetic joint infection (PJI) enables early and effective treatment. However, there is currently no gold standard test for microbial detection of PJI and traditional synovial fluid culture is relatively insensitive. Recently, it has been reported that sonicating fluid culture and next-generation sequencing (NGS) improve microbial detection rates.

Tacrolimus interacts with letermovir and azole antifungals, whereas letermovir has nonuniform effects on the pharmacokinetics of azole antifungals. We retrospectively investigated the interaction of tacrolimus (continuous infusion) with letermovir considering co-administered azole antifungals in adult hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients. The extent of intraindividual variation in the ratio of tacrolimus concentration to dose normalized by body weight (C/D ratio) was investigated.

Background: Since the first outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), it has been reported that several factors, including hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obesity, have close relationships with a severe clinical course. However, the relationship between body composition and the prognosis of COVID-19 has not yet been fully studied.
Methods: The present study enrolled 76 consecutive COVID-19 patients with computed tomography (CT) scans from the chest to the pelvis at admission.

Background: Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors (CDK4/6i) improve the prognosis of hormone receptor-positive HER2-negative advanced/metastatic breast cancer (HR+/HER2- mBC). However, some cancers show resistance to CDK4/6i and have a poor prognosis. The non-luminal disease score (NOLUS) was developed to predict non-luminal disease using immunohistochemical analysis.

Purpose: Metastatic breast cancer (MBC) is usually incurable; treatment aims to maximize patients' function and quality of life (QOL). Eribulin is a standard treatment in patients with MBC pretreated with anthracycline and taxane; however, the best administration schedule is unknown.
Methods: In this prospective phase II trial of patients with luminal MBC, we administered biweekly eribulin to patients who completed a three-cycle induction treatment.

Mixed epithelial and stromal tumor (MEST) of the kidney is a rare benign tumor with malignant potential, and is characterized by epithelial and stromal proliferation with a variety of cellularity and growth pattern. MEST of the kidney is often depicted as a well-defined, solid mass with a cystic component. However, due to the rarity of the disease, there are no reports of its progression in serial imaging examinations.

Background: Patients with renal transplant are frequently administered immunosuppressants to prevent transplant-related adverse events. There are mainly nine immunosuppressants on the market, and multiple immunosuppressants are frequently administered for patients with renal transplant. Identifying which immunosuppressant was responsible when efficacy or safety was observed in patients taking multiple immunosuppressants is difficult.

Clot waveform analysis (CWA) observes changes in transparency in a plasma sample based on clotting tests such as activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), and thrombin time (TT). Evidence indicates that not only an abnormal waveform but also peak times and heights in derivative curves of CWA are useful for the evaluation of hemostatic abnormalities. Modified CWA, including the PT with APTT reagent, dilute PT (small amount of tissue factor [TF]-induced clotting factor IX [FIX] activation; sTF/FIXa), and dilute TT, has been proposed to evaluate physiological or pathological hemostasis.
