Background: The incidence of Barrett's esophageal adenocarcinoma (BEA) is increasing, and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) has been frequently performed for its treatment. However, the differences between the characteristics and ESD outcomes between short- and long-segment BEA (SSBEA and LSBEA, respectively) are unclear. We compared the clinicopathological characteristics and short- and long-term outcomes of ESD between both groups.

Objectives: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) related interstitial lung disease (ILD) impacts on the treatment strategy and its prognosis in patients with RA. However, the relationship between RA disease activity and the severity of comorbid ILD has not been fully investigated. This study aimed to investigate the impact of RA disease activity on the severity of comorbid ILD in detail based on currently established visual scoring method along with physiological severity.

Objectives: We performed a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the clinical or microbiological outcomes and safety of a combination of daptomycin (DAP) and β-lactams compared to DAP monotherapy in patients with blood stream infection (BSI) due to gram-positive cocci (GPC).
Methods: We searched Scopus, PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, and Ityuushi databases up to January 30, 2023. Outcomes included all-cause mortality, clinical failure, and creatine phosphokinase (CPK) elevation.

Background: Gastric cancer (GC) is a major leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Systemic inflammation and the nutrition-based score are feasible prognostic markers for malignancies. Emerging evidence has also revealed the C-reactive protein-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) index to be a prognostic marker for several cancer types.

Therefore, the incidence of each adverse event following phenobarbital (PB) administration would vary with age. However, in clinical trials, increasing the sample size of pediatric patients in each age group has been challenging.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors have recently become the standard of care in the first-line treatment of extensive-stage small cell lung cancer. Although immune-related adverse events have been reported to influence prognosis in non-small cell lung cancer patients, few studies have investigated the prognostic value of immune-related adverse events in small cell lung cancer patients. In this study, we evaluated the prognosis of patients who developed immune-related adverse events after first-line treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitor-based chemotherapy for extensive-stage small cell lung cancer.

Background: Postoperative pancreas-related complications (PPRCs) are common after laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) in patients with gastric cancer. We estimated the anatomical location of the pancreas on a computed tomography (CT) image and investigated its impact on the incidence of PPRCs after LG.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the preoperative CT images of 203 patients who underwent LG for gastric cancer between January 2010 and December 2017.

Introduction: Cancer genome analysis using next-generation sequencing requires adequate and high-quality DNA samples. Genomic analyses were conventionally performed using formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded sections rather than cytology samples such as cell block or smear specimens. Specimens collected from liquid-based cytology (LBC) have the potential to be sources of high-quality DNA suitable for genetic analysis even after long-term storage.

Background: American guidelines recommend trimethoprim-sulphamethoxazole (TMP-SMX) for preventing Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP) in paediatric patients at doses of 5-10 mg/kg/d of the TMP component, administered either daily, three times weekly, or twice weekly. However, limited studies describe the effectiveness and safety of these prophylactic regimens. Our study aimed to assess the clinical effectiveness and incidence of adverse events associated with each TMP-SMX regimen in paediatric patients, and to identify risk factors for adverse events.

Elderly human brains are vulnerable to multiple proteinopathies, although each protein has a different transmission pathway. Tau-immunoreactive astrocytes are well-known in elderly brains. In contrast, astrocytic plaques, a hallmark in corticobasal degeneration (CBD), rarely occur in aging and neurodegenerative disease other than CBD.
