The effect of irradiation during computed tomography (CT) imaging on implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) has not been fully evaluated in various settings. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the occurrence of electromagnetic interference (EMI) during CT irradiation in various clinically available ICDs with phantom experiments and to determine the potential risks related to irradiation during CT imaging. Five types of clinically available ICDs from five manufacturers were tested.

: FVIII reagent activity varies across different assays, as well as activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) reagents. The hemostatic ability of various FVIII reagents was examined via clot waveform analysis (CWA). : APTT was measured using 12 APTT reagents, a small amount of tissue factor-induced FIX activation (sTF/FIXa) and a small amount of thrombin time (sTT) in order to examine 10 FVIII reagents and reference plasma (RP) using CWA.

Background: We investigated whether the initial voriconazole (VRCZ) dosing design, as determined using simulation software with a population pharmacokinetic model of Japanese patients, impacts the effectiveness and safety when compared with VRCZ initiation according to the package insert.
Methods: In this single-center retrospective observational study, we employed records from Tosei General Hospital (a 633-bed hospital), dated April 2017 to September 2023. Eligible patients were divided into the software-based simulation group, comprising patients administered initial VRCZ dosage adjustment by pharmacists using software-based simulation, and the standard therapy group, whose dosage was administered by a physician following the package insert recommendations without simulation.

Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection poses significant risks to fetal development, particularly affecting the nervous system. This study reports a fetal autopsy case, examining cCMV infection and focusing on CMV DNA measurements in various fetal organs before formalin fixation, a novel approach for comprehensive CMV DNA evaluations in fetal organs affected by cCMV. A 20-week-old male fetus was diagnosed with cCMV following the detection of CMV DNA in ascites obtained via abdominocentesis in utero.

Purpose: To evaluate the amide proton transfer (APT), tumor blood flow (TBF), and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) combined diagnostic value for differentiating intracranial malignant tumors (MTs) from benign tumors (BTs) in young patients, as defined by the 2021 World Health Organization classification of central nervous system tumors.
Methods: Fifteen patients with intracranial MTs and 10 patients with BTs aged 0-30 years underwent MRI with APT, pseudocontinuous arterial spin labeling (pCASL), and diffusion-weighted imaging. All tumors were evaluated through the use of histogram analysis and the Mann-Whitney U test to compare 10 parameters for each sequence between the groups.

Veno-venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) is a rescue therapy for severe respiratory failure in which conventional mechanical ventilation therapy is unsuccessful. Hemolysis during VV-ECMO support arises from multiple factors associated with organ damage and poor outcomes. Therefore, close and prompt monitoring is needed.

Approximately 30% of steroid-resistant nephrotic syndromes are attributed to monogenic disorders that involve 27 genes. Mutations in family members have also been linked to nephrotic syndrome; however, the precise mechanism remains elusive. To investigate this, podocyte-specific knockout mice were generated to examine phenotypic changes.

Background Immunosuppressants are administered in various combinations to prevent immune-induced transplant rejection in patients with liver transplant, as each immunosuppressant acts on different cellular sites. However, the use of multiple immunosuppressants also increases the risk for adverse events. Therefore, it is desirable to reduce the types of immunosuppressants administered without increasing the incidence of transplant rejection.

Objectives: The prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is on the rise, with endovascular treatment being a widely accepted surgical intervention. Patients with PAD often experience reduced activities of daily living (ADL). Therefore, we conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate the impact of early rehabilitation after endovascular treatment in patients with PAD.

Background: Piperacillin/tazobactam (PIPC/TAZ), which is a combination of a beta-lactam/beta-lactamase inhibitor, often causes liver enzyme abnormalities. The albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) score is a simple index that uses the serum albumin and total bilirubin levels for estimating hepatic functional reserve. Although patients with low hepatic reserve may be at high risk for drug-induced liver enzyme abnormalities, the relationship between PIPC/TAZ-induced abnormal liver enzymes levels and the ALBI score remains unknown.

Although dietary potassium restriction is an acceptable approach to hyperkalemia prevention, it may be insufficient for outpatients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Most outpatients with CKD use community pharmacies owing to the free access scheme in Japan. The MieYaku-CKD project included a community pharmacist-led nutritional intervention for dietary potassium restriction, with the goal of determining its efficacy for patients' awareness of potassium restriction and serum potassium levels in outpatients with CKD.

However, SDF cannot be fully assessed using conventional semen parameter evaluations alone. Therefore, the authors aimed to elucidate the relationship between SDF and sperm parameters via computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA) to improve treatment strategies in reproductive medicine.

Introduction: While respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is one of the most common pathogens in adults admitted to the ICU due to respiratory diseases, no reports regarding the occurrence rate of RSV infections in adults in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic exist.
Patients And Methods: We conducted this retrospective study to examine the exact occurrence rate of RSV infections in adults. We reviewed all patients (≥18 years) with any respiratory symptoms who received quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using nasopharyngeal samples for respiratory viruses by GeneLEAD at the Aichi Medical University Hospital between November 2022 and November 2023.
This case of non-nodal mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) showcases atypical hairy cell-like features, distinguishing it via next-generation sequencing. Despite a TP53 mutation indicating poor prognosis, our case followed an indolent course, highlighting the importance of genetic testing and phenotypical examination in MCL.
