Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), began in late 2019. One of the vaccines approved against COVID-19 is the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer/BioNTech).

Case Presentation: We present the case of a 71-year-old man with no history of the SARS-CoV-2 infection or any recent viral or bacterial illnesses who presented with bilateral oculomotor palsy and limb ataxia after BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccination.

Various cells from humans and animals have been established as cell lines, and their features, characteristics, and origins have been reported. Many laboratories use cell lines as model cells, which are selected to suit research purposes. We attempted to identify the ABO genotypes of 31 human leukemia and lymphoma cell lines stored in our laboratory using three methods: the PCR amplification of specific alleles (PASA), PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP), and the direct DNA sequencing of PCR products.

Methods: The clinical information of hepatitis E cases was collected from 21 medical institutions in Mie Prefecture. The nucleotide sequences of infecting HEV strains were determined for cases with available serum samples.

Introduction: Advanced life support (ALS) is thought to be associated with improved survival in prehospital trauma care when compared with basic life support (BLS). However, evidence on the benefits of prehospital ALS for patients with trauma is controversial. Therefore, we aim to clarify if ALS improves mortality in patients with trauma when compared with BLS by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of the recent literature.

Two Japanese siblings visited the Cook Islands on business and stayed for 2 months. The sister developed a high fever, arthralgia, erythema and leg edema on the day after returning to Japan. The brother also developed neck and joint pain on the day following the sister's onset.

Hepaticojejunostomy by interventional radiology with an expandable metallic stent after extended right hepatectomy for hilar cholangiocarcinoma: case report.

As a rare complication of extended right hepatectomy with portal vein resection, we were unable to find the cut end of the bile duct of the lateral segment to create a hepaticojejunostomy in a 57-year-old man with hilar cholangiocarcinoma. However, we succeeded in safely creating a hepaticojejunostomy between the bile duct of the lateral segment and a Roux-en-Y jejunum by using the guide wire technique and an expandable metallic stent under fluoroscopic and cholangioscopic guidance after the operation. The patient was discharged with an internal biliary drainage tube, but died of recurrence about 2 years after the operation with the hepaticojejunostomy remaining patent.

Methods: We compared the efficacy of hepatic resection (HR) (n = 101), radiofrequency ablation with prior transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (RFA + TACE) (n = 115), percutaneous ethanol injection with prior TACE (PEI + TACE) (n = 43), and TACE (n = 86) as a primary treatment in terms of survival among 345 patients treated at Mie University Hospital between 1995 and 2004, according to CLIP score.

Laboratory findings included remarkable leukocytosis and eosinophilia, and a colonoscopy revealed erosion from the rectum to the ileocecal region.

Case Report: Three consecutive patients with platinum- and paclitaxel- resistant epithelial ovarian cancer were treated with 120 mg/m2 of CPT-11 (days 1 and 15) and 7 mg/m2 of MMC (days 1 and 15) every four weeks. In all three cases partial responses were achieved and overall survivals were 17 months or longer.

Venous thromboembolic diseases associated with uterine myomas diagnosed before hysterectomy: a report of two cases.

Large uterine myomas (compressed veins in the pelvis), and the resulting impaired blood flow have been associated with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Careful detection of the preoperatively formed thrombi and strict perioperative management, such as in the following cases we report, may reduce lethal pulmonary embolism and may positively affect patient prognosis.

Autoimmune hepatitis complicated with antiphospholipid syndrome in pregnancy.

Problem: There are few reports on the association between autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and antiphospholipid syndrome; only five reports were found on a MEDLINE search between 1966 and 2001. Therefore, the etiology and the optimal treatment of them are not clear.
