This case study delves into the unusual presentation of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC), where bilateral hemorrhagic adrenal metastasis served as the primary indication of an underlying malignancy. Our patient, a 58-year-old male, sought medical attention due to acute abdominal pain and lower back discomfort, leading to an in-depth diagnostic exploration. Radiological examinations revealed bilateral adrenal masses exhibiting hemorrhagic characteristics, a distinctive feature not commonly associated with NSCLC.

Introduction: Admission to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in obstetrics is often used as a proxy for maternal near miss/severe maternal morbidity (MNM/SMM) events. Understanding incidence and management of pregnant or postpartum patients requiring critical care (CC) is thus important for continued improvement of maternity care. This study aims to describe provision of critical care in obstetrics in the Republic of Ireland.

We report a case of cellulitis of the soft tissue of the neck with group B streptococcus (GBS) sepsis in a 4-week-old baby boy presented with a 1-day history of fever, irritability and feed refusal. While in the hospital, a left-sided submandibular swelling extending to preauricular area started emerging, which progressed dramatically. Ultrasound scan of the neck confirmed inflammation of the underlying soft tissue while revealing multiple enlarged lymph nodes without any abscess formation and overlying soft tissue oedema.

A 61-year-old obese man who had recently tested positive for COVID-19 presented to the emergency department following an unwitnessed collapse, with a brief period of unresponsiveness. CT pulmonary angiography confirmed the presence of extensive bilateral pulmonary embolism despite the patient reporting full compliance with long-term dabigatran. The patient was initially anticoagulated with low-molecular-weight heparin and was treated with non-invasive ventilation and dexamethasone for COVID-19 pneumonia.

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic respiratory disease that may be punctuated by episodes of worsening symptoms, called exacerbations. Acute exacerbations of COPD (AECOPD) are detrimental to clinical outcomes, reduce patient quality of life and often result in hospitalisation and cost for the health system. Improved diagnosis and management of COPD may reduce the incidence of hospitalisation and death among this population.
