Acute diarrhea is a prevalent disease worldwide and a cause of mortality in low and middle-income countries. In previous studies, the causative enteropathogen is found in 38% to 58% of patients, leaving a considerable diagnostic gap. In this study, we intend to determine the pathogenic agents responsible for acute diarrhea in patients presenting to the Emergency Departments of several Lebanese hospitals.

Background: Invasive fungal infections have presented a challenge in treatment. In the past, it was known that the frontrunner in such infections is s with little emphasis placed on non-albicans species (NAC). Studies worldwide have shown a rise in fungal infections attributed to non-albicans species.

Background: QTc interval prolongation has been reported when combining fluoroquinolones and triazoles for chemoprophylaxis in cancer patients. Herein, we aimed to identify the prevalence and contributing factors to QTc prolongation in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) recipients who received these agents during the neutropenic phase.
Methods: This is a retrospective medical chart review conducted at a university hospital in Lebanon from 2017 to 2020.

Aim: To compare (in the LIRA-PRIME [NCT02730377], a randomized open-label trial), the efficacy of liraglutide in controlling glycaemia versus an oral antidiabetic drug (OAD) in patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (T2D), despite metformin use in a primary care setting (n = 219 sites, n = 9 countries).
Materials And Methods: Adults (n = 1991) with T2D (HbA1c 7.5%-9.

The prevalence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in surface water in Lebanon is a growing concern and understanding the mechanisms of the spread of resistance determinants is essential. We aimed at studying the occurrence of resistant bacteria and determinants in surface water sources in Lebanon and understanding their mobilization and transmission. Water samples were collected from five major rivers in Lebanon.

Objectives: Beauty is a Lebanese stereotype, as Lebanese women often feel urged to decorate themselves. Recent studies have raised concerns about nail salon technicians' (NSTs) health and safety issues. The aim of our study was to evaluate the occupational symptoms reported by NSTs, to assess their knowledge and document their awareness regarding hazardous chemicals found in nail cosmetics.

Since the discovery of the double helix and the introduction of genetic engineering, the possibility to develop new strategies to manipulate the genome has fascinated scientists around the world. Currently scientists have the knowledge andabilitytoedit the genomes. Several methodologies of gene editing have been established, all of them working like "scissor", creating double strand breaks at specific spots.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have surfaced as ideal candidates for treatment of different therapeutically challenging diseases however their effect on cancer cells is not well determined. In this study, we investigated the effect of MSCs derived from human bone marrow (BM), adipose tissue (AT), and umbilical cord derived MSCs (UC-MSCs) on ovarian cancer.Measurements of ovarian tumor marker proteins were computed by ELISA.

We report the study design and patient baseline characteristics.
Materials And Methods: This 104-week, two-arm, open-label, active-controlled trial is active in 219 primary care practices across nine countries.

Background: There is a lack of official national antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data in Lebanon. Individual hospitals generate their own antibiotic susceptibility data in the form of yearly pamphlets.
Methods: In this study, antibiotic susceptibility data from 13 hospitals distributed across different governorates of Lebanon were collected to conduct a compilation-based surveillance of AMR in Lebanon for the years 2015-2016.

Background: Most common forms of hair loss (alopecia) are caused by aberrant hair follicle cycling and changes in hair follicle morphology. However, current treatments for alopecia do not specifically target these processes. Adipose-derived stromal vascular cells (ADSVCs) that can be harvested from fat cells are one of the latest breakthroughs in the aesthetic field.
