Objectives: Sometimes performing PORP adequately is challenging when the stapes is tilted or the suprastructure is partially damaged owing to inflammation or infection. In such cases, the implementation of a TORP bypassing the stapes can be a useful alternative. This study aimed to investigate whether bypassing the stapes suprastructure during total ossicular replacement prosthesis (TORP) affects postoperative complications or audiological outcomes.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe the bacterial profile of middle ear fluid from spontaneous perforation of the tympanic membrane (SPTM) prior to widespread utilization of third- generation pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs).
Patients And Methods: From October 2015 to January 2023, children with SPTM were prospectively enrolled by pediatricians.
Results: Among the 852 children with SPTM, 73.

Unlabelled: Tympanic membrane perforation in children usually appears as a sequel of middle ear infection. This study was conducted to compare the anatomical and functional outcomes of cartilage and temporalis fascia graft in type 1 tympanoplasty in Paediatric population.
Design: A hospital based randomized controlled trial.

Introduction: Otomycosis is a fungus-causing superficial infection of the external auditory canal that is common in otolaryngology practice. Though it is a worldwide infection, but is more prevalent in warm and humid regions. There has been rise in the occurrence of otomycosis in the last few years because of the extensive usage of antibiotic eardrops.

To examine the impact of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCV) on the occurrence of recurrent acute otitis media (rAOM) among infants diagnosed with an early acute otitis media (AOM) episode. Retrospective cohort study of pediatric patients with a first episode of AOM at an age < 2 months. Data included clinical, demographic, and microbiological findings at the first AOM episode.

Background: In the surgical development of cholesteatoma, in order to reduce the recurrence of cholesteatoma, 2 kinds of surgeries were carried out: removal of Cog and Korner's septum to ventilate supratubal recess (supratubal recess opened) and obliteration of the mastoid and attic space (bony obliteration tympanoplasty) were invented, respectively. Their purpose is the same but the theoretical basis is different, and the comparison of these 2 methods is not reported in the current literature. This study aims to evaluate the rates of recurrent and residual cholesteatoma with the simple canal wall up and canal wall up-supratubal recess opened and canal wall up-bony obliteration tympanoplasty mastoidectomy in a large cohort of patients.

The tympanic membrane (TM), is a thin tissue lying at the intersection of the outer and the middle ear. TM perforations caused by traumas and infections often result in a conductive hearing loss. Tissue engineering has emerged as a promising approach for reconstructing the damaged TM by replicating the native material characteristics.

Otitis media (OM) is an infectious and inflammatory disease of the middle ear (ME) that often recurs and requires long-term antibiotic treatment. Light emitting diode (LED)-based devices have shown therapeutic efficacy in reducing inflammation. This study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of red and near-infrared (NIR) LED irradiation on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced OM in rats, human middle ear epithelial cells (HMEECs), and murine macrophage cells (RAW 264.

Acute tympanic membrane perforations primarily occur due to injury or infection in humans. In acute cases, nearly 80-94 % of the perforations heal spontaneously. In chronic cases, non-surgical treatment becomes significantly limited, and the perforation can be restored only by myringoplasty.

There are various factors which affect the success rate of tympanic membrane (perforation) closure, including age of the patient, size of the perforation, duration of the ear discharge, the presence or absence of infective discharge at the time of surgery. Our aim was to observe the effect of presence of discharge from the ear on the success (outcome) of tympanoplasty. This is prospective study which was conducted on 300 cases with 150 patients each in dry and wet ear group.

Objective: Ventilation tube (VT) insertion is usually recommended before cochlear implantation (CI) in pediatric cochlear implant candidates with recurrent acute otitis media (AOM) or chronic otitis media with effusion (OME). However, there is no consensus on whether the VT is beneficial even after CI, that is, whether the tube should be removed or left in place during CI. This study aimed to assess the effect of tube placement after CI, especially on the incidence of post-CI AOM, in pediatric cochlear implant recipients who had undergone VT insertion before CI because of recurrent AOM or chronic OME.

Otitis media with effusion (OME) is a type of otitis media (OM) characterized by the presence of fluid behind intact tympanic membrane and is one of the most common diseases of early childhood. It is an infectious disease associated with the presence of many pathogenic bacteria in the middle ear of affected individuals. This study was aimed to determine the prevalence of Gram-positive bacteria from the middle ear of OME patients in the population of Southern Punjab, Pakistan.

Otitis media (OM) is a common disease of the middle ear, affecting 80% of children before the age of three. The otoscope, a simple illuminated magnifier, is the standard clinical diagnostic tool to observe the middle ear. However, it has limited contrast to detect signs of infection, such as clearly identifying and characterizing middle ear fluid or biofilms that accumulate within the middle ear.

Otitis media is a disorder of the middle ear, which can occur at any age but is more common among infants and children. The patient usually presents with earaches, impaired hearing, and fever. If antibiotics and decongestants do not suit the patient, a myringotomy can be performed to achieve middle ear aeration.

Objective: To report a case of alternobaric facial palsy (AFP) with a hyperpneumatized temporal bone and to review the relevant literature in order to propose a new facet of AFP pathogenesis.
Methods: A patient with a hyperpneumatized temporal bone was found to have recurrent episodes of facial palsy associated with air travel. Systematic review of PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase characterized all articles related to transient facial palsy associated with altitude changes or diving with a focus on demographics and imaging findings.
