The need for a permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation after surgical aortic valve implantation (SAVR) is a recognized postoperative complication, with potentially long-term reduced survival. From 1987 to 2017, 2500 consecutive patients underwent SAVR with a biological valve with or without concomitant procedures such as CABG or mitral valve repair. Mechanical valves or valves in another position were excluded.

Background: Adherence and persistence to positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy are key factors for positive health outcomes. Home support providers (HSPs) participate in home implementation and follow-up of PAP therapy for patients with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). In Europe, HSP levels of service are country (or area) specific, resulting in differences in content and frequency of patient interactions.

Introduction: Aortic valve replacement is the only effective treatment for symptomatic aortic valve disease. Transcatheter implantation has been introduced as alternative for surgery (SAVR), but its penetration varied widely. For high-risk octogenarian patients, the advantages of TAVI are clear.

Background: Patients with refractory angina are often ineligible for revascularization and have poor quality of life despite optimal medical therapy. The coronary sinus (CS) Reducer (Shockwave Medical Inc) was safe and effective in the treatment of refractory angina in the COSIRA (Coronary Sinus Reducer for Treatment of Refractory Angina) randomized sham-controlled trial.
Objectives: This study sought to perform the primary endpoint analysis of the complete REDUCER-I (An Observational Study of the Neovasc Reducer System) study cohort.

Aortic valve disease is a lethal condition, once it becomes symptomatic. Surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) has, for a long time, been the only treatment option. In patients aged 85 and older, the consequences of SAVR have rarely been investigated.

Atrial myopathy is a condition that consists of electrical, structural, contractile, and autonomic remodeling of the atria and is the substrate for development of atrial fibrillation, the most common arrhythmia. Pathophysiologic mechanisms driving atrial myopathy are inflammation, oxidative stress, atrial stretch, and neurohormonal signals, e.g.

Introduction: Gait initiation is preceded by three anticipatory postural adjustment (APA) phases. In Parkinson's disease (PD) generated force, displacement and timing during APA differ from healthy controls. APA might be influenced by disease status, weight or emotion.

Purpose: To describe a case of bilateral Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada (VKH)-like uveitis during treatment with dabrafenib and trametinib and three months after discontinuation of nivolumab for malignant melanoma, and discuss the possible (synergistic) role(s) of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) inhibitors and immune checkpoint inhibitors in its pathophysiology.
Methods: Retrospective case report with fluorescein angiography and optical coherence tomography.
Results: A 55-year old patient with metastatic melanoma presented with a complaint of gradually worsening blurry vision in the right eye during treatment with dabrafenib and trametinib, three months after discontinuation of nivolumab.

Background: The Flemish Collaborative Glomerulonephritis Group (FCGG) registry provides complete population data on kidney disease epidemiology in the region of Flanders (Belgium), as it captures all native kidney biopsies performed in its population of 6.5 million inhabitants.
Methods: From 2017 until 2019, 2054 adult kidney biopsies were included from 26 nephrology centers (one biopsy per patient).

Iatrogenic coronary artery dissections (ICAD) are rare but potentially devastating complications during coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). Intima media complex separation may be produced either by the catheter tip or during PCI. Patient characteristics and procedure related risk factors are intimately linked to catheter induced ICAD over diagnostic angiography.

Materials And Methods: We used the databases of the National Health Insurance Institute (RIZIV/INAMI) and the Belgian Cancer Registry (BCR) for a nationwide description of cervical screening, subsequent diagnostic procedures and outcomes for women younger than 20 years and women aged 20-25 years between 2010 and 2019.
Results: Over a 10-year period, the number of cytology screening tests and annual screening rates in women younger than 25 years have been reduced by 50%, but no increases in invasive cervical cancer or high-grade intraepithelial lesion diagnoses were observed.

Cardiac arrhythmias are associated with cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Cardiac electrophysiology studies (EPS) use intracardiac catheter recording and stimulation for profound evaluation of the heart's electrical properties. The main clinical application is investigation and treatment of rhythm disorders.

We present a case of marked gastric distension and gastroparesis in a patient with atrial fibrillation who underwent a pulmonary vein isolation, a procedure commonly performed in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation in order to regain sinus rhythm. Two days following the procedure, the patient presented with marked abdominal distension, and computed tomography imaging was consistent with gastroparesis and/or delayed gastric emptying. A tentative diagnosis of pylorospasm was made.

A 35-year-old woman underwent bilateral lung transplantation for primary ciliary dyskinesia and developed vascular tumors over a slow time course. Initial presentation of non-specific vascular tumors in the lungs and liver for up to 6 years after transplantation evolved toward bilateral ovarian angiosarcoma. Tumor analysis by haplotyping and human leukocyte antigen typing showed mixed donor chimerism, proving donor origin of the tumoral lesions.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia caused by structural remodeling of the atria, also called atrial myopathy. Current therapies only target the electrical abnormalities and not the underlying atrial myopathy. For the development of novel therapies, a reproducible large animal model of atrial myopathy is necessary.
