Article Synopsis
  • In 2018, the World Endoscopy Organization (WEO) established standardized methods to calculate post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer rates over three years (PCCRC-3yr), prompting a systematic review to assess global rates and associated risk factors.
  • The review analyzed studies from five databases and included eight studies totaling over 220,000 colorectal cancer cases, finding a pooled PCCRC-3yr rate of 7.5% that significantly decreased from 7.9% in 2006 to 6.7% in 2012.
  • Higher PCCRC rates were linked to specific risk factors, including inflammatory bowel disease, prior colorectal cancer, proximal cancer location, diverticular disease, and being female, undersc

Pulmonary transit time is a predictor of outcomes in heart failure: a cardiovascular magnetic resonance first-pass perfusion study.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

June 2024

Multidisciplinary Cardiovascular Research Centre, Department of Biomedical Imaging Science, Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine, University of Leeds, Leeds, LS2 9JT, UK.

Background: Pulmonary transit time (PTT) can be measured automatically from arterial input function (AIF) images of dual sequence first-pass perfusion imaging. PTT has been validated against invasive cardiac catheterisation correlating with both cardiac output and left ventricular filling pressure (both important prognostic markers in heart failure). We hypothesized that prolonged PTT is associated with clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the effectiveness of subtalar arthroereisis in treating stage 1 flexible progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD), focusing on clinical outcomes and the rate of implant removal.
  • - After evaluating 212 patients over an average of 2.5 years, significant improvements in pain and function were noted, with positive FAOS results across several categories, although a high implant removal rate of 48.1% due to persistent pain was also observed.
  • - The findings suggest that while subtalar arthroereisis can enhance patient outcomes, individuals should be informed about the possibility of needing further surgery to remove the implant.

The use of compression therapy is known to be effective in the management of patients with venous leg ulceration and is commonly recommended as a first-line treatment. A rare but known complication of compression therapy is pressure damage to the limb, also referred to as bandage damage, which should be categorised as a medical device-related pressure injury. Patients should receive a comprehensive, holistic assessment before any compression therapy is applied.
