It has been a long-standing goal to improve dispersive qubit readout with squeezed light. However, injected external squeezing (IES) cannot enable a practically interesting increase in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and simultaneously, the increase of the SNR due to the use of intracavity squeezing (ICS) is even negligible. Here, we counterintuitively demonstrate that using IES and ICS together can lead to an exponential improvement of the SNR for any measurement time, corresponding to a measurement error reduced typically by many orders of magnitude.

Multicomponent crystals have great scientific potential because of their amenability to crystal engineering in terms of composition and structure, and hence their properties can be easily modified. More and more research areas are employing the design of multicomponent materials to improve the known or induce novel physicochemical properties of crystals, and recently they have been explored as materials with abnormal pressure behaviour. The cocrystal of 1,2-bis(4'-pyridyl)ethane and fumaric acid (ETYFUM) exhibits a negative linear compressibility behaviour comparable to that of framework and metal-containing materials, but overcomes many of their deficiencies restricting their use.

Our investigation uncovers that nanomolar concentrations of salinomycin, monensin, nigericin, and narasin (a group of potassium/sodium cation carriers) robustly enhance surface expression of CD20 antigen in B-cell-derived tumor cells, including primary malignant cells of chronic lymphocytic leukemia and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Experiments in vitro, ex vivo, and animal model reveal a novel approach of combining salinomycin or monensin with therapeutic anti-CD20 monoclonal antibodies or anti-CD20 CAR-T cells, significantly improving non- Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) therapy. The results of RNA-seq, genetic editing, and chemical inhibition delineate the molecular mechanism of CD20 upregulation, at least partially, to the downregulation of MYC, the transcriptional repressor of the MS4A1 gene encoding CD20.

H and F spin-lattice relaxation experiments have been performed for a series of ionic liquids: [HMIM][TFSI], [OMIM][TFSI], and [DMIM][TFSI] including the same anion and cations with progressively longer alkyl chains. The experiments were performed in a wide frequency range from 10 kHz to 10 MHz (referring to the H resonance frequency) versus temperature. This extensive data set has been analyzed in terms of a theoretical model including all relevant homonuclear (H-H and F-F) and heteronuclear (H-F) relaxation pathways and linking the relaxation features to the relative translational diffusion between the ion pairs (cation-cation, cation-anion, and anion-anion).

Heavy metal pollution, particularly from cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu), poses significant environmental and health risks. To address the need for efficient, portable, and sensitive detection methods, this study introduces an improved atmospheric pressure glow discharge atomic emission spectrometry (APGD-AES) technique for quantifying Cd and Cu in water samples. The APGD-AES method offers key advantages, including low energy consumption (<33 W), high excitation energy, and compact design.

The voltage-dependent anion-selective channel (VDAC) plays a crucial role in mitochondrial function, and VDAC paralogs are considered to ensure the differential integration of mitochondrial functions with cellular activities. Heterologous expression of VDAC paralogs in the yeast Δ mutant cells is often employed in studies of functional differentiation of human VDAC paralogs (hVDAC1-hVDAC3) regardless of the presence of the yeast second VDAC paralog (yVDAC2) encoded by the gene. Here, we applied ΔΔ double mutants and relevant Δ and Δ single mutants, derived from two strains (M3 and BY4741) differing distinctly in auxotrophic markers but commonly used for heterologous expression of hVDAC paralogs, to study the effect of the presence of yVDAC2 and cell genotypes including , the latter resulting in a low level of hydrogen sulfide (HS), on the complementation potential of heterologous expression of hVDAC paralogs.

This study explores the formation and properties of new complexes involving gallium(III) and thiouracil derivatives-2-thiouracil (TU), 6-methyl-2-thiouracil (MTU), 6-propyl-2-thiouracil (PTU), 5-carboxy-2-thiouracil (CTU), and 6-methoxymethyl-2-thiouracil (MMTU). Conducted in aqueous solutions at relatively low concentrations, this research enabled the formation of soluble complexes, identified and described here for the first time. The influence of metal-to-ligand ratios on species distribution and their fluorescence properties was examined through potentiometric titration, alongside visible and fluorescence spectroscopy.

Polyamines (PAs), such as putrescine, spermine, and spermidine, are bioactive molecules that play a vital role in plant responses to stresses. Although they are frequently applied to achieve higher levels of stress tolerance in plants, their function in seed biology is still not fully understood. PAs have been described in only a limited number of studies as seed priming agents, but most of the data report only the physiological and biochemical PA effects, and only a few reports concern the molecular mechanisms.

Salinomycin and its derivatives display promising anti-proliferating activity against bloodstream forms of . The mechanism of trypanocidal action of these compounds is due to their ionophoretic activity inducing an influx of sodium cations followed by osmotic water uptake, leading to massive swelling of bloodstream-form trypanosomes. Generally, higher trypanocidal activities of salinomycin derivatives are associated with higher cell swelling activities.

This study explored the preparation of pure silica KIT-6, as well as KIT-6 materials with an enhanced concentration of surface OH groups through aluminum incorporation or NHF treatment. These materials with various contents of surface OH groups were subsequently modified via the post-synthesis grafting of sulfonic groups using 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane as a precursor, followed by oxidation to introduce acidic sites. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized using XRD, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, SEM-EDS, TEM, and FT-IR techniques to confirm their structural and chemical properties.

The selective and efficient synthesis of (E)-1,2,4-trisilylbut-1-en-3-ynes obtained via Pt-catalyzed hydrosilylation of 1,4-bis(trimethylsilyl)buta-1,3-diyne is described. Optimized reaction conditions (Pt(PPh)) or Pt(dvs), 100 °C, toluene, 18 h) yielded compounds with high isolation yields (76-95%). The modification of (E)-1,2,4-trisilylbut-1-en-3-ynes was further tested in protodesilylation, halodesilylation, hydrosilylation, and Pd-based cross-coupling reactions, resulting in a broad spectrum of new products.

The utilization of tunnels and water transport within enzymes is crucial for their catalytic function as water molecules can stabilize bound substrates and help with unbinding processes of products and inhibitors. Since the choice of water models for molecular dynamics simulations was shown to determine the accuracy of various calculated properties of the bulk solvent and solvated proteins, we have investigated if and to what extent water transport through the enzyme tunnels depends on the selection of the water model. Here, we focused on simulating enzymes with various well-defined tunnel geometries.

This article critically examines the Housing First model within the broader context of neoliberal policies impacting homelessness, particularly at the intersection of mental illness, poverty, and addiction. While Housing First is celebrated for its effectiveness in providing immediate housing to chronically homeless individuals, this model's alignment with neoliberal principles prioritizes cost effectiveness and visible outcomes over comprehensive care. As a harm reduction approach, Housing First often overlooks the underlying mental health and addiction issues that maintain homelessness, resulting in a cycle of dependency rather than long-term recovery.
