Telehealth modalities have given patients options for delivery of care, and in some cases increased access to care. However, great effort needs to be made by providers and clinic staff to ensure patients are given choice in their delivery of care methods and technological support to work toward equity in care. We propose applying the BEACH model for shared decision-making to help providers support patients in choosing the best care delivery method, while also encouraging providers to seek further education on telehealth competencies.

Adeno-associated virus (AAV)-based gene therapy has enjoyed great successes over the past decade, with Food and Drug Administration-approved therapeutics and a robust clinical pipeline. Nonetheless, barriers to successful translation remain. For example, advanced age is associated with impaired brain transduction, with the diminution of infectivity depending on anatomical region and capsid.

Preclinical methods are needed for screening potential Alzheimer's disease (AD) therapeutics that recapitulate phenotypes found in the Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) stage or even before this stage of the disease. This would require a phenotypic system that reproduces cognitive deficits without significant neuronal cell death to mimic the clinical manifestations of AD during these stages. Long-term potentiation (LTP), which is a correlate of learning and memory, was induced in mature human iPSC-derived cortical neurons cultured on microelectrode arrays utilizing circuit patterns connecting two adjacent electrodes.

Background: The incidence of nosocomial meningitis, and utility of lumbar puncture, is unclear in hospitalized patients without preceding neurosurgery or head trauma.
Aim: We planned for a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate accuracy of clinical features and diagnostic utility of lumbar puncture in nosocomial meningitis.
Methods: We searched MEDLINE, MEDLINE In-Process/ePubs, EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Web of Science from inception until June 5, 2024.

Intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) impact morbidity and mortality in burn patients, exacerbated by extensive fluid resuscitation required for more than 20% of total body surface area burns. We report a case of a 28-year-old male with severe burns and a TBSA of 49% who presented after a fire incident. The trauma team managed the patient's fluid resuscitation, followed by early burn debridement.

This study aims to analyze trends in gender and ethnic diversity among incoming US psychiatry residents over the past 5 years. Physician diversity improves patient care as minority physicians often serve underserved communities and address health disparities. Increasing the representation of women and underrepresented minorities in medicine is essential for preparing a physician workforce that can effectively care for an increasingly diverse population.

Objective: Topical nasal decongestants (TNDs) are used to reduce nasal soft tissue edema and obstruction. However, after frequent TND use, patients can develop rhinitis medicamentosa (RM) with rebound nasal edema and obstruction. Management of RM has centered largely on TND cessation ± intranasal corticosteroids.

Purpose Of Review: The relationship between depression and personality has long been a topic of interest in the fields of psychiatry and psychology, but consensus remains elusive. This lack of consensus poses a significant challenge in both diagnosis and treatment, especially in situations when otherwise effective therapies for depression fail. Our article aims to address this issue by reviewing the historical and recent conceptualizations of the relationship between depression and personality pathology.

Background: Management of pediatric solid organ injuries continues to evolve, decreasing the need for serial hemoglobin measurements, repeat imaging, and operative intervention. Transcutaneous continuous hemoglobin monitoring (TCHM) has been shown to effectively monitor hemoglobin levels in children with solid organ trauma.
Methods: A 6-year, single-center, retrospective chart review was conducted of pediatric solid organ injury patients aged 30 days to <18 years admitted to a quaternary children's hospital following implementation of a highly protocolized TCHM system.

Background: Synoptic operative reports (SORs) are checklists or templates that contain standardized elements of an operation. These elements are associated with standardized inclusion of critical elements of the operative report that translate into numerous potential benefits. Whereas SORs for melanoma, breast, and colorectal cancer surgery have already been widely implemented, similar templates for hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) cancer surgery are currently lacking.
