Accessible, low-cost digital programmes are emerging as a means by which to address high rates of mental health problems. However, the development and assessment of scalable training programmes for effective use of digital interventions has lagged. This is particularly important, as coach-supported digital interventions provide benefits that substantially and consistently exceed those of programmes that are entirely self-guided.

Background: Catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention is a major target for hospital quality metrics because it is linked to increased morbidity, mortality, and health care costs. Health care systems use strict protocols surrounding catheterization and maintenance, which often disregard the clinical needs of special populations (eg, spinal cord injury [SCI]). However, for populations that rely on chronic instrumentation of the bladder, asymptomatic (ie, nonpathogenic) bacterial colonization in the bladder is common but not linked to adverse outcomes.

Evaluation for genetic disease in kidney transplant candidates: A practice resource.

Am J Transplant

October 2024

Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, William von Liebig Center for Transplantation and Clinical Regeneration, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, USA; Department of Internal Medicine, VA Medical Center, Iowa City, Iowa, USA. Electronic address:

The increasing availability of clinically approved genetic tests for kidney disease has spurred the growth in the use of these tests in kidney transplant practice. Neither the testing options nor the patient population where this should be deployed has been defined, and its value in kidney transplant evaluation has not been demonstrated. Transplant providers may not always be aware of the limitations of genetic testing and may need guidance on comprehending test results and providing counsel, as many centers do not have easy access to a renal genetic counselor or a clinical geneticist.

Article Synopsis
  • * Concerns are raised about purely biological definitions being used in clinical settings, especially since many biomarker-positive but cognitively normal individuals may never develop symptoms, complicating diagnosis and patient understanding.
  • * The authors advocate for a combined clinical-biological definition of AD that accommodates at-risk and presymptomatic stages, emphasizing the need for caution in diagnosing AD without fully understanding the implications for patients.
