Background: Lymphatic disorders such as protein-losing enteropathy, plastic bronchitis, and chylothorax are important complications of the Fontan circulation and ultimately result in an increased risk of early death. Several European centers are now performing lymphatic procedures. The aim of this study is to map the extent of these lymphatic disorders and treatments provided across European pediatric cardiology centers.

Most acquired and inherited cardiomyopathies are characterized by regional left ventricular involvement and nonischemic myocardial scars, often with a disease-specific pattern. Irrespective of the etiology and pathophysiological mechanisms, myocardial disorders are invariably associated with cardiac fibrosis, which contributes to dysfunction and electrical instability. Accordingly, cardiac magnetic resonance plays a central role in the diagnostic work-up and prognostic risk stratification of cardiomyopathies, particularly with the increasing correlation between genetic background and specific disease phenotype.

Haemodynamic forces (HDFs), which represent the forces exchanged between blood and surrounding tissues, are critical in regulating the structure and function of the left ventricle (LV). These forces can be assessed on cardiac magnetic resonance or transthoracic echocardiography exams using specialized software, offering a non-invasive alternative for measuring intraventricular pressure gradients. The analysis of HDFs can be a valuable tool in improving our understanding of cardiovascular disease and providing insights beyond traditional diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

(1) Background: We aim to address the following questions. What was the complication rate of vascularized fibula graft (VFG) combined with massive allograft in patients treated with joint-sparing resection around the knee for a high-grade osteosarcoma? What was the long-term survivorship of VFG free from revision and graft removal? What were the functional results as assessed by the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) score? (2) Methods: 39 patients treated in our unit for osteosarcoma around the knee with intercalary resection and reconstruction with VFG combined with massive allograft were included; 26 patients underwent intercalary tibial resection, while 13 underwent intercalary femoral resection. (3) Results: Mean Follow-Up was 205 months (28 to 424).

Background: Reconstruction with vascularized fibula grafts (VFG) after intercalary resection of sarcoma may offer longevity by providing early graft-host union and fracture healing. The ability of the fibula to hypertrophy under mechanical stress, as well as vascularized bone in the area, may also be advantageous, given that soft tissues may be compromised because of resection, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy. VFG with a massive allograft combines the primary mechanical stability of the graft with the biological potential of the vascularized fibula; however, complications and the durability of this combined reconstruction are not well described.

As a slowly progressive form of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), Anderson-Fabry disease (FD) resembles the phenotype of the most common sarcomeric forms, although significant differences in presentation and long-term progression may help determine the correct diagnosis. A variety of electrocardiographic and imaging features of FD cardiomyopathy have been described at different times in the course of the disease, and considerable discrepancies remain regarding the assessment of disease severity by individual physicians. Therefore, we here propose a practical staging of FD cardiomyopathy, in hopes it may represent the standard for cardiac evaluation and facilitate communication between specialized FD centres and primary care physicians.

Background: A vascularized fibula graft (VFG) is the vascular autograft most frequently used to restore large segmental long bone defects, particularly in the upper limb. Because the use of a vascularized fibula involves an operation in an uninvolved extremity with potential morbidity, it is important to document that this type of reconstruction is successful in restoring function to the humerus. However, the long-term results of VFG after intercalary resection of the humeral diaphysis for bone tumors are still unknown.

Background: The use of processed electroencephalography (pEEG) for depth of sedation (DOS) monitoring is increasing in anesthesia; however, how to use of this type of monitoring for critical care adult patients within the intensive care unit (ICU) remains unclear.
Methods: A multidisciplinary panel of international experts consisting of 21 clinicians involved in monitoring DOS in ICU patients was carefully selected on the basis of their expertise in neurocritical care and neuroanesthesiology. Panelists were assigned four domains (techniques for electroencephalography [EEG] monitoring, patient selection, use of the EEG monitors, competency, and training the principles of pEEG monitoring) from which a list of questions and statements was created to be addressed.

Oculocutaneous albinism is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by the presence of typical ocular features, such as foveal hypoplasia, iris translucency, hypopigmented fundus oculi and reduced pigmentation of skin and hair. Albino patients can show significant clinical variability; some individuals can present with only mild depigmentation and subtle ocular changes. Here, we provide a retrospective review of the standardized clinical charts of patients firstly addressed for evaluation of foveal hypoplasia and slightly subnormal visual acuity, whose diagnosis of albinism was achieved only after extensive phenotypic and genotypic characterization.
