The synthesis of nucleosides is crucial for pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications, acting as drugs and as essential building blocks for numerous therapeutic agents. However, most enzymes employed in nucleoside biocatalysis are not recycled, possess limited stability, and have strict substrate selection for ribonucleosides or 2'deoxyribonucleosides. We employed 2'-deoxyribonucleoside transferase (NDT) enzymes from thermophilic and psychrophilic bacteria to demonstrate they can be immobilized to enhance specific activity, stability, and recyclability.

Social Leisure Activities and Cognitive Functioning among Married and Unmarried Older Men and Women in Mexico.

Using data from Wave 5 (2018) of the Mexican Health and Aging Study, this research examines the implications of six social leisure activities for cognition among married and unmarried men and women in Mexico, while considering their physical health and depressive symptoms. The findings reveal some marital status and gender differences and similarities. This study indicates that church attendance and volunteering might be related to poorer cognition, whereas a training course, club participation, board games, and remote communication can provide cognitive benefits.

Integrating Culture Into Care: Leveraging Community Engagement to Address Anxiety in a Rural Community.

We share insights from a community engagement studio aimed at addressing anxiety in Quay County, a remote rural area in New Mexico. The studio involved eight local experts representing various sectors, including health care, education, and faith-based organizations. These experts identified key insights surrounding anxiety, including its causes, community perceptions of mental health services, and strategies for addressing anxiety within the community.

The use of the snare catheter (SC) technique has been described in the field of interventional cardiology, in particular in the retrieval of a lost device, for example, a dislodged coronary stent, broken coronary wire, and so forth. In the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure, some cases have been observed where the anatomy is challenging or there are scenarios where some complications occur during the procedure, which make it necessary to use some tools to achieve the success of the procedure. The SC has shown are very useful either to achieve the ascent of the valve to the annular plane in complex anatomies or as a rescue measure in the event of complications that may arise after valve implantation.

Background: Anti-aging facial procedures with nonenergy and nonablative energy devices are increasingly popular among patients with skin of color (SOC). Algorithms have addressed the measures to reduce the side effects related to aesthetic procedures, but few focus on SOC patients and periprocedural integrating skincare.

Methods: Eight dermatologists from Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Mexico, and the USA participated in a meeting and an online follow-up to develop an algorithm for periprocedural skincare for nonenergy and nonablative energy-based facial aesthetic procedures in patients with SOC.

Humanity faces an ongoing battle at the microscopic level to identify, contain, and treat outbreaks of numerous pathogens each year. Global genomic surveillance is the first step in monitoring outbreaks, but high-throughput methods are expensive and time-consuming. Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of non-traumatic OHCAs from the National Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival from 2013-2022 that survived hospital admission.
