This study explores the preparation of lubricating oleo-dispersions using electrospun nanofibrous mats made from low-sulfonate lignin (LSL) and polycaprolactone (PCL). The rheological and tribological properties of the oleo-dispersions were significantly modulated for the first time through the exploration of LSL/PCL ratio and electrospinning conditions such as applied voltage, distance between the tip and collector, flow rate, ambient humidity, and collector configuration. Adequate uniform ultrathin fibers and Small-amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS) functions of the oleo-dispersions, with storage modulus values ranging from 10 to 10 Pa at 25 °C, were obtained with a flow rate of 0.

Hydrodynamic radius () is a descriptive metric of protein structure with the potential to impact drug development, disease diagnosis, and other important research areas of molecular biology. Common instrumental methods for molecular size characterization are disadvantageous due to high sample consumption, measurements made in non-physiological conditions, and/or inaccurate size determinations. Capillary Taylor dispersion analysis (TDA) is a molecular sizing method that utilizes nL sample volumes and achieves absolute size determination without calibration or comparison to standards.

This article examines the complex relationship between disease perception, negative emotions, and their impact on postoperative recovery in patients with perianal diseases. These conditions not only cause physical discomfort, but also carry a significant emotional burden, often exacerbated by social stigma. Psychological factors, including stress, anxiety, and depression, activate neuroendocrine pathways, such as the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, disrupting the gut microbiota and leading to dysbiosis.

Plant-based beverages are water-soluble extracts of cereals, pseudocereals, seeds and legumes that resemble milk in appearance. However, these products have important differences compared to normal liquid milk, such as nutritional composition, sensorial properties and shelf-life stability. Increasing number of consumers are opting for these beverages due to lactose intolerance, milk protein allergies or lifestyle.

Aquatic ecosystems are reservoirs of biodiversity and are highly threatened. Among the main threats to biodiversity are invasive species and global warming, the later has allowed the establishment of invasive species from originally warmer climates outside their native range by reducing the barriers to their establishment and distribution. Behaviour is the immediate response that species modify to counteract changes in their environment.

The Sierra Madre Oriental (SMO) is a significant mountain range and one of Mexico's 14 biogeographical provinces. Its delimitation has been debated. This study aims to analyze the distribution of plants, beetles, odonates, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals using an endemicity analysis to identify endemism areas and confirm the SMO's biogeographical units.

Introduction: The continued momentum toward equity-based, patient/community-engaged research (P/CenR) is pushing health sciences to embrace principles of community-based participatory research. Much of this progress has hinged on individual patient/community-academic partnered research projects and partnerships with minimal institutional support from their academic health institutions.
Methods: We partnered with three academic health institutions and used mixed methods (i.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the leading cause of dementia, characterized by progressive cognitive decline. Cholinesterase inhibitors are commonly used to manage symptoms but have limited efficacy as the disease progresses. Aducanumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques, has emerged as a novel therapeutic approach.

Cardiac complications following non-cardiac surgeries are a significant cause of perioperative morbidity and mortality. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the incidence and predictors of cardiac complications in patients undergoing elective and urgent non-cardiac surgeries. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases for studies published between 2010 and 2024.

While this issue has been amply explored among immigrants and refugees in high-income countries, there is a dart of information on the situation of in-transit migrants and asylum seekers (IMAS) in low- or middle-income countries. Since these are the main recipient countries for this population, it is important to document inequalities in access to care in this context, especially for countries such as Mexico, in which IMAS are entitled to health care in par with the general population.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFStrong, affiliative bonds often function to facilitate social competition through cooperative defence of resources, but the benefits of social bonds may be low when direct competition is less intense or less beneficial. In such cases, one possible outcome is that relationships are weak and undifferentiated. Alternatively, negotiating stable, selectively tolerant relationships may be a strategy to mitigate the costs and risks of sharing space when direct competition is undesirable.

A total of 150 nine-day-old quails were randomly assigned to receive one of the following diets over 4 weeks: CTRL (100% inorganic minerals), OM33 (replacement of 33% inorganic minerals), OM67 (replacement of 67% inorganic minerals), and OM100 (100% organic minerals). Quails fed the OM67 diet exhibited higher ( < 0.

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) of the toxigenic dinoflagellate (KB) are pivotal in structuring the ecosystem of the Gulf of Mexico (GoM), decimating coastal ecology, local economies, and human health. Bacterial communities associated with toxigenic phytoplankton species play an important role in influencing toxin production in the laboratory, supplying essential factors to phytoplankton and even killing blooming species. However, our knowledge of the prevalence of these mechanisms during HAB events is limited, especially for KB blooms.

Liposomes are employed for the delivery of molecular cargo in several classes of systems. For instance, the embedding of loaded liposomes in polymeric fibrous scaffolds has enabled the creation of hybrid materials that mimic biological membranes. Liposomes with unmodified surfaces have been predominantly integrated into fibers, which leads to instabilities due to interfacial incompatibility.

Understanding the interactions between molecules and sensing elements is crucial to improving sensors. We present one step toward getting closer to the breach between theory and empirical sensor development. Through density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we explored the changes in some optical properties of pristine graphene (G), graphene oxide (GO), and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) interacting with one molecule of acetaminophen (APAP).

Thermal atomic layer deposition (TALD) and plasma atomic layer deposition (PALD) were used for producing thin NiO films from nickel(II) acetylacetonate Ni(acac), employing different oxidizing agents (deionized water HO, ozone O, and molecular oxygen O). The films were deposited at 300 °C (TALD) and 220 °C (PALD) over glass substrates; their physical and chemical properties were considerably influenced by the choice of oxidizing agents. In particular, ALD(HO) samples had a low growth per cycle (GPC) and a high concentration of defects.

One use of CO as a starting material in organic transformations is in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates and polycarbonates. Due to the low reactivity of CO, this transformation must be carried out in the presence of an efficient catalyst. Although several catalytic systems have been developed in the past decade, reducing the CO pressure at which the reaction is carried out remains one of the main challenges of the process.
