Background: In vascular tissue, macrophages and inflammatory cells produce the enzyme lipoprotein- associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2). Treatment with fibrates decreases Lp-PLA2 levels in individuals with obesity and metabolic syndrome; however, these findings have not been fully clarified.

Objective: The goal of this study was to investigate the possible effects of fibrate therapy on Lp-PLA2 mass and activity through a meta-analysis of clinical trials.

Hydronephrosis and survival in cervical cancer patients: The role of urinary diversion.

Objective: We aimed to assess the impact of urinary diversion on survival in patients with advanced cervical cancer (CC) and hydronephrosis. Additionally, we examined the influence of other patient factors and urinary diversion type on survival.

Methods: A retrospective study analyzed survival in cervical cancer (CC) patients with hydronephrosis treated at two Mexican hospitals from 2011 to 2023.

Effects of assisted calving and retained fetal membranes on milk production in the smallholder farming system.

The impact of assisted calving, retained fetal membranes (RFM) and calf sex on milk production in small-scale dairy systems remains unknown. This study evaluated their impact on early lactation milk production and standardized 305-day yield (305MY) using 279 lactation records from 23 farms over 18 months. Variables analyzed included assisted calving, RFM, calf sex, and lactation number, with milk production at 30 days and 305MY as response variables.

Prevalence of hepatitis C virus co-infection in adults living with HIV in Mexico: a cross-sectional, seroprevalence study in a nationally representative sample.

Background: The proportion of people living with HIV (PLWHIV) co-infected with HCV in Mexico was unknown. Our aim was to estimate the seroprevalence of HCV among adults with HIV in Mexico.

Methods: Using a complex-survey design, we collected blood samples and applied structured questionnaires between May 2nd, 2019 and February 17th, 2020 in a nationally, representative sample of adults receiving care for HIV-infection in 24 randomly selected HIV-care centres in 8 socio-demographically regions in Mexico.

Background: Endemic in more than 20 countries, Chagas disease affects 6.3 million people worldwide, leading to 28,000 new infections and 7700 deaths each year. Previous meta-analyses on antiparasitic treatment need updates to encompass recent studies and to assess key clinically meaningful endpoints.

[CuSnSb] as a dual spherical-spherical aromatic heterometallic cluster bridged an antiaromatic CuSn motif.

The formation of [CuSnSb] serves as a template for heterometallic species to evaluate the resulting aromatic properties. Our results indicated that the spherical aromatic characteristics of the [CuSnSb] building unit remained in the overall aggregate, featuring an induced shielding cone from different orientations of the external field. Here we present the first annual monitoring update of the indicator framework proposed by the Food Systems Countdown Initiative, with new qualitative analysis elucidating interactions across indicators. Since 2000, we find that 20 of 42 indicators with time series have been trending in a desirable direction, indicating modest positive change.

Torpor is used to buffer against these energetic challenges, but its frequency and duration vary. We measured lipid content, metabolic rates and torpor use in two species of migrating hummingbirds, calliope () and rufous hummingbirds () at a stopover site.

Background: COVID-19 is a disease that had a great impact in the world, generating lifestyle changes; among these are changes in sleep quality, with the elderly being one of the most affected age groups. Objective: To identify sleep alterations in Mexican people older than 60 years post COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: We performed a descriptive study on subjects older than 60 years from the aging cohort of the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases.

Cardiovascular Risk Prediction Models in People Living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus under Antiretroviral Therapy in Northern Mexico.

Background: The effective use of combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) has significantly improved the life expectancy of people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, complications have shifted from opportunistic infections to issues such as drug toxicity and resistance, as well as an increase in premature cardiovascular diseases (CVD). These conditions are attributed to chronic immune activation and persistent inflammation caused by HIV, along with lipid abnormalities and insulin resistance.
