Background: The Paediatric Rheumatology International Trials Organisation (PRINTO) recently undertook an effort to better harmonize the pediatric and adult arthritis criteria. These provisional criteria are being refined for optimal performance. We aimed to investigate differences between patients who did and did not fulfill these PRINTO criteria amongst youth diagnosed with juvenile spondyloarthritis (SpA) that met axial juvenile SpA (axJSpA) classification criteria.

Introduction: Hip fractures in the elderly pose a significant clinical challenge, with high short-term mortality rates. The Nottingham Hip Fracture Score (NHFS) has proven useful in predicting 30-day mortality in European and Asian populations, but its validity in the Mexican population has not been widely assessed.
General Objective: To validate the NHFS in predicting 30-day mortality following hip fracture in a Mexican population.

The cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) is an essential component of the endocannabinoid system, responsible for regulating various physiological processes such as pain, mood, and appetite. Despite increasing interest in the therapeutic potential of CB1 modulators, the precise mechanisms by which small molecules modulate receptor activity-particularly without fully transitioning between active and inactive states-remain partially understood. In this study, the complexity of CB1-ligand interactions was evaluated for the inactive CB1 state.

The development of a protective HIV vaccine remains a challenge given the high antigenic diversity and mutational rate of the virus, which leads to viral escape and establishment of reservoirs in the host. Modern antigen design can guide immune responses towards conserved sites, consensus sequences or normally subdominant epitopes, thus enabling the development of broadly neutralizing antibodies and polyfunctional lymphocyte responses. Conventional epitope vaccines can often be impaired by low immunogenicity, a limitation that may be overcome by using a carrier system.

The efficacy of opioids in the treatment of chronic pain is limited; however, the adverse effects they produce are considerable. N-palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), a bioactive lipid mediator with structural similarities to endocannabinoids, has exhibited notable anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects in preclinical models. The objective of this study was to investigate the antinociceptive properties, motor coordination (MC), and constipation effects of tramadol and PEA in combination within a neuropathic pain model.

Introduction: Burns are traumatic events that can affect multiple systems beyond the skin. The rapid removal of the burn eschar is a key step in the effective treatment of severe burns, and surgical debridement is currently the standard of care for eschar removal in burn patients. However, surgical debridement is highly hemorrhagic.

Complete talar extrusion is a rare injury that is typically caused by high-energy impact. Treatment for a completely extruded talus is limited and has variable outcomes and complications. Tibiocalcaneal arthrodesis is one of the best treatments for restoring stability and reducing pain in the affected limb.

Laboratory 13 Thermal and Structural Analysis of Materials and Foods, Multidisciplinary Research Unit, National Autonomous University of Mexico-Superior Studies Faculty at Cuautitlan (UNAM-FESC), Cuautitlan Izcalli, Mexico State, Mexico.
The use of new technologies that allow for improving conventional food preservation processes is what the industry has been adopting in recent decades, with high-intensity ultrasound (US) and the application of cryoprotectant agents (cryogels) being those that have become more relevant today. For this reason, in this study, cuts of pork frozen in liquid nitrogen with and without waxy starch cryogel and thawed under controlled conditions in water immersion and with US were used, evaluating thermal parameters such as the initial zone and the melting rate of ice crystals and quality parameters such as pH, water holding capacity (WHC), microstructure, color profile, shear force, and surface changes. It was shown that the addition of cryogel modifies the initial fusion zone, that US-assisted thawing increases the fusion rate, and that both factors influence the quality parameters.

Müller cells are the most abundant glial cells in the mammalian retina. Their morphology and metabolism enable them to be in close contact and interact biochemically and physically with almost all retinal cell types, including neurons, pericytes, endothelial cells, and other glial cells, influencing their physiology by releasing bioactive molecules. Studies indicate that Müller glial cells are the primary source of angiogenic growth factor secretion in the neuroretina.

In South Texas, vehicle collisions have been a major mortality source for the endangered ocelot (). To mitigate threats to this species, eight WCS, along with associated fencing, were strategically placed along Farm-to-Market Road 106 (FM106), which passes through ocelot habitat.

Ultrasonography is a reliable imaging technique for the accurate diagnosis and evaluation of musculoskeletal disorders. Recent developments in ultrasound technology have significantly increased image resolution, making it possible to see anatomical features at almost microscopic dimensions. Current standards for standardized shoulder ultrasonography mostly depend on outdated machine types and configurations that may not fully utilize these high-resolution imaging capabilities.

Discontinuation of antiseizure medications (ASMs), primarily prompted by adverse effects, presents a formidable challenge in the management of epilepsy, and impacting up to 25% of patients. This article thoroughly explores the clinical spectrum of cutaneous adverse drug reactions (cADRs) associated with commonly prescribed ASMs. Ranging from mild maculopapular rashes to life-threatening conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), the diverse manifestations are meticulously detailed.

The final disposal of corpses is one of the activities that generates the greatest pollution. Chemicals, embalming fluids, greenhouse gas emissions, and other factors trigger contamination of soils and water sources in towns near cemeteries. This study aimed to validate empirical environmental equations to determine the suitability of territories for cemetery location in several cantons of Central Ecuador, address study variables measured in the field, and update the bibliography as a rapid decision-making tool for decentralized governments.

Stingless bees (tribe Meliponini), comprising over 600 known species within the largest group of eusocial bees, play a critical role in ecosystem functioning through their pollination services. They contribute to the reproduction of numerous plant species, including many economically important crops such as cacao, coffee, and various fruits. Beyond their ecological significance, stingless bees hold cultural and economic importance for many native and rural communities, where they are managed for their honey, pollen, and propolis for nutritional and health purposes.

Understanding effects of extreme heat across diverse settings is critical as social determinants play an important role in modifying heat-related risks. We apply a multi-scale analysis to understand spatial variation in the effects of heat across Mexico and explore factors that are explaining heterogeneity. Daily all-cause mortality was collected from the Mexican Secretary of Health and municipality-specific extreme heat events were estimated using population-weighted temperatures from 1998 to 2019 using Daymet and WorldPop datasets.

Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are chemosensitive neoplasms with high cure rates; however, a small group of patients present tumors with refractory chemotherapy, with a dismal prognosis and few effective management options. Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are approved for use in chemotherapy refractory GCT, the evidence supporting this indication remains scarce. Original research studies were included on patients with GCTs refractory to chemotherapy treated with ICI up to December 2023.

Efforts to prevent dementia can benefit from precision interventions delivered to the right population at the right time; that is, when the potential to reduce risk is the highest. Young adults (aged 18-39 years) are a neglected population in dementia research and policy making despite being highly exposed to several known modifiable risk factors. The risk and protective factors that have the biggest effect on dementia outcomes in young adulthood, and how these associations differ across regions and groups, still remain unclear.
