Article Synopsis
  • A 70-year-old woman was diagnosed with stellate nonhereditary idiopathic foveomacular retinoschisis, showing schisis cavities in the outer plexiform layer of her left eye through optical coherence tomography.
  • No leakage was observed in fluorescein angiography, and other potential causes for her condition were ruled out.
  • After five years, her visual acuity remained stable, the retinoschisis in her left eye resolved, but new cystoid spaces developed in the right eye, highlighting the need for multimodal imaging for monitoring such conditions.

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, 1 University of New Mexico MSC08 4670, Albuquerque, NM, United States.

Introduction: Effective treatment of breast cancer remains a formidable challenge, partly due to our limited understanding of the complex microenvironmental factors that contribute to disease pathology. Among these factors are tissue-resident perivascular cells, which play crucial roles in shaping vascular basement membranes, maintaining vessel integrity, and communicating with adjacent endothelial cells. Despite their essential functions, perivascular cells have been relatively overlooked.

Unlabelled: Meniscal extrusion (ME), defined as the radial displacement of the meniscal body outside the margins of the tibial plateau, has been seen as an independent and relevant predictor of intra-articular knee degeneration. Nonetheless, available classifications for ME are exclusively quantitative assessments not considering the context in which extrusion is identified. Indeed, ME can be the result of several different conditions spanning from acute tears to chronic degeneration and its definition cannot be only dependent on the numeric calculation of the radial displacement of the meniscal body.

Laboratorio de Glicobiología y Diagnóstico Molecular, Centro de Investigación en Dinámica Celular, Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos, Av. Universidad 1001, Col. Chamilpa, Cuernavaca 62209, Morelos, México.

The human CMP-sialic acid transporter (hCST) is a mammalian highly conserved type III antiporter that translocates CMP-sialic acid into the Golgi lumen, supporting sialylation. Although different works have focused on elucidating structure-function relationships in the hCST, this is the first study to address them in an alternatively spliced isoform. We have previously reported the expression of a functional human del177 isoform that has skipping of exon 6, resulting in a loss of 59 amino acids, without change in the open reading frame and conserving its C-terminal region.

Department of Psychiatry, NYU Langone Center for Psychedelic Medicine, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, New York (Pagni, Zeifman, Mennenga, Carrithers, Goldway, O'Donnell, Ross, Bogenschutz); School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University, Tempe (Mennenga); Department of Psychology, New York University, New York (Goldway); Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque (Bhatt).

Objective: Evidence suggests that psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT) leads to durable shifts in personality structure. However, such changes have yet to be characterized in disorders of addiction. In this secondary analysis from a randomized controlled trial, the authors examined the effect of PAT on personality dimensions in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), hypothesizing that PAT would attenuate personality abnormalities in AUD and that reductions in trait impulsiveness would be associated with lower drinking.
