Sci Rep

March 2024

Department of Applied Physics, Z.H. College of Engineering & Technology, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, 202002, India.

This work focuses on the structural, morphological, optical, photocatalytic, antibacterial properties of pure CeO nanoparticles (NPs) and graphene oxide (GO) based CeO nanocomposites (GO-1/CeO, GO-5/CeO, GO-10/CeO, GO-15/CeO), synthesized using the sol-gel auto-combustion and subsequent sonication method, respectively. The single-phase cubic structure of CeO NPs was confirmed by Rietveld refined XRD, HRTEM, FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. The average crystallite size was calculated using Debye Scherrer formula and found to increase from 20 to 25 nm for CeO to GO-15/CeO samples, respectively.

This review basically concerned with the application of different Schiff bases (SB) based fluorimetric (turn-off and turn-on) and colorimetric chemosensors for the detection of heavy metal cations particularly Al(III), Fe(III), and Cr(III) ions. Chemosensors based on Schiff bases have exhibited outstanding performance in the detection of different metal cations due to their facile and in-expensive synthesis, and their excellent coordination ability with almost all metal cations and stabilize them in different oxidation states. Moreover, Schiff bases have also been used as antifungal, anticancer, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antioxidant, and antimalarial etc.

Endocrine disrupter chemicals (EDCs) are both natural and man-made chemicals that mimic, block or interfere with human hormonal system. In the present manuscript, QSAR modeling was performed for the androgen disruptors that interfere with biosynthesis, metabolism or action of androgens that causes adverse effects on male reproductive system. A set of 96 EDCs that exhibited affinity towards androgen receptors (Log RBA) in rats were employed for carrying out QSAR studies using Hybrid descriptors (combination of HFG and SMILES) through Monte Carlo Optimization.

Food demand is expected to increase globally by 60-110% from 2005 to 2050 due to diet shifts and population growth. This growth in food demand leads to the generation of enormous agri-food wastes (AFWs), which could be classified into pre-consumption and post-consumption. The AFW represents economic losses for all stakeholders along food supply chains, including consumers.

In the present work, the synthesis of cellulose nanowhiskers (CNW)/chitosan nanocomposite films via deep eutectic solvents (DES) changing the chemical structures were carried out. It was observed that a pure chitosan film has broadband at 3180-3400 cm, indicating amide and hydroxyl groups. Upon CNW incorporation, the peak gets sharper and stronger and shifts to a greater wavelength.
