Background: Lack of consensus on which measurement method gives the most accurate results for medullary canal filling ratio (CFR) of stems used in revision knee prostheses causes confusion when interpreting scientific studies. Therefore, the present study aims to find the most accurate measurement method of CFR on direct radiographs.
Methods: Twenty-eight femoral and 27 tibial components of 29 patients with a mean age of 72.

Objective: This study aimed to determine the reliability levels of the radiographic union scale for tibial fractures (RUST) and the modified version of the system, mRUST, for femoral shaft fractures in pediatric and adult patients and to evaluate the value of the scores for total and each cortex in the decision making on fracture union.
Methods: A total of 15 orthopedic surgeons scored the radiographs of 24 pediatric and 24 adult patients with femoral shaft fractures that were obtained at 0, 4, 8, 12, and 16 postoperative weeks treated with elastic stable intramedullary nail in pediatric patients and locked intramedullary nail in adult patients using the RUST and mRUST scores. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) was used in the evaluation of reliability of the RUST and mRUST scores.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the academic productivity of and the obstacles encountered by orthopedic residents in Turkey.
Methods: Overall, 220 orthopedic specialists who were registered in the Ministry of Health and had started orthopedic residency between 2009 and 2010 were invited to participate in a survey through e-mail. The survey comprised a total of 19 questions to evaluate the academic works conducted and obstacles encountered during residency.

Objective: To investigate whether orthopedic and traumatology residents who are undergoing training achieve competence in surgical techniques after completion of their specialization and to determine whether there are significant differences between the responses of residents from accredited and nonaccredited institutions.
Methods: A total of 131 orthopedics and traumatology residents from nine institutions in the İstanbul province answered the questionnaire during the morning training meeting. In addition to basic demographic data, level of seniority, equipment competence, and theoretical and practical training, the residents were asked about their opinion on what type of surgeries they could perform after their specialization, considering the surgery and follow-up of the case as well as the complications occurring during this period.

Objective: Chondroblastoma is a benign aggressive tumor which needs surgical treatment and has a recurrence rate up to 35%. Extended (aggressive) curettage is the mainstay of treatment and local adjuvants have been reported to decrease the recurrence rate.
Methods: The recurrence rates and the functional results of 14 patients who were treated in our institution and 2 other patients who were treated elsewhere between the years 2004-2016 were evaluated.

Achilles tendon xanthomas are rarely seen masses that are highly associated with hyperlipidemia. They are manifested in two types: Xanthomas developed secondary to familial hypercholesterolemia and cerebrotendinous xanthomatoses. In this report, we present a case of bilateral Achilles tendon xanthoma secondary to familial hypercholesterolemia and resection along with a portion of the Achilles tendon.

Objectives: Wide-awake anesthesia is a type of local anesthesia consisting of a combined application of lidocaine, epinephrine, and bicarbonate and has a wide potential in hand surgery as it offers the advantage of being applied without sedation and without using a tourniquet. In light of recent studies, its use has increased with the disappearance of the belief among surgeons that epinephrine can cause circulatory disturbance in fingers.
Methods: Patients with finger pathologies who were operated upon at the Baltalimani Bone Diseases Teaching and Research Hospital between January 2015 and February 2016 were divided into two groups according to anesthesia type: wide-awake anesthesia and axillary block anesthesia, with 52 patients in each group.

Background: Some patients experience a non-traumatic pain in the tibial diaphysis similar to that in the clinical and radiological findings of a tumor, an infection or a stress fracture and cannot be definitively diagnosed even after biopsy. In this study, our aim was to exhibit the challenges in the diagnosis of this patient group and to evaluate this type of patients with a limited population in the literature.
Methods: Eighteen extremities of 16 patients, whose complaints of non-traumatic pain in the tibial diaphysis were evaluated by our tumor council and T2-weighted MR scans of the medullary bone had shown hyperintense signal changes or tumor-like appearances, were evaluated with histological, radiological, and clinical results.
