Pesticides present in water resources can cause adverse health effects even in low concentrations, due to their bio-accumulative character. Therefore, the challenge for drinking water production increases, due to the limitations of conventional water treatment technologies in the removal of small molecular weight dissolved compounds. This work aimed to provide technical and scientific support for the selection of pulverized activated carbon - PACs, granular activated carbon - GACs, and carbon nanotubes - CNT concerning atrazine - ATZ, simazine - SMZ, and diuron - DIU adsorption for application in water treatment plants, considering two forms of application commercial product - CP and analytical standard - SD.

Fatigue can be defined as exercise-induced strength loss. During running, fatigue can be partially explained by repetitive low-intensity eccentric contractions-induced muscle damage (EIMD). Previous studies showed that a bout of downhill running (DR) attenuated subsequent EIMD.

We investigated the effects of a recreational training (RET) protocol in elderly women with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We hypothesized that non-conventional physical activities of RET protocol might improve clinical outcomes regarding cardiovascular function, metabolic profile and mental health as participants keep the adherence to the protocol during the 3-month follow-up. Cardiovascular parameters (heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure), circulating biomarkers (glucose and lipids) and salivary cortisol were attenuated in response to exercise.

Objective: To verify the characteristics of the electromyographic signal of masticatory muscles in individuals with TMD and asymptomatic individuals.
Methods: A systematic review was carried out, selecting cross-sectional studies with at least one electromyographic parameter (FM; iEMG; RMS) of the masticatory muscles (anterior temporal, bilateral masseter, and suprahyoid muscles) of individuals with TMD compared to asymptomatic individuals.
Results: This review identified 1656 titles, of which 30 articles were included in the final analysis.

Introduction: Chronic pain is common in individuals with severe and moderate haemophilia who did not receive prophylaxis during childhood.
Objective: To verify the effectiveness of acupuncture in reducing intensity in chronic pain, changes in quality of life, joint function and impact on treatment satisfaction of haemophilia patients.
Methods: Single-blinded randomized clinical trial with 28 participants divided into two groups: Acupuncture (G1) treated with traditional unilateral acupuncture (side of greatest referred pain) and Control (G2) treated with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), with electrodes on the joint of most intense pain.

The objective of this study was to verify the relationships between the anthropometrical and physical fitness parameters (measured by the Physical Conditioning Assessment (PCA) of the Aeronautics Command), with the operational performance in the simulated military task performance (SMTP) performed by the infantry military of a Brazilian Air Force (BAF) unit. These evaluations were performed on two distinct days, interspersed by 48h, with PCA on the first day and the SMTP in the second. The distribution of the dependent variable was not normal (Shapiro-Wilk test, = 0.

Introduction: Risk factors are biological or environmental characteristics increasing the likelihood of delays in child development. Meanwhile, protective factors are conditions that can minimize risks and favor the acquisition of skills. Infants with risk indicators for hearing loss (RIHL) tend to live in less stimulating environments which may lead to lower cognitive, language, and motor development.

Purpose: We compared the effects of suspension training (ST) with traditional resistance training (TRT) on muscle mass, strength and functional performance in older adults.
Methods: Forty-two untrained older adults were randomized in TRT, ST (both performed 3 sets of whole body exercises to muscle failure) or control group (CON). Muscle thickness (MT) of biceps brachii (MT) and vastus lateralis (MT), maximal dynamic strength test (1RM) for biceps curl (1RM) and leg extension exercises (1RM), and functional performance tests (chair stand [CS], timed up and go [TUG] and maximal gait speed [MGS]) were performed before and after 12 weeks of training.

High-intensity exercises including tethered efforts are commonly used in training programs for athletes, active and even sedentary individuals. Despite this, the knowledge about the external and internal load during and after this effort is scarce. Our study aimed to characterize the kinetics of mechanical and physiological responses in all-out 30 seconds (AO30) tethered running and up to 18 minutes of passive recovery.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the RAE in girls' volleyball players participating in the U-18 World Championship, analysing the differences between the medal teams and other teams in the tournament, and considering this phenomenon in relation to the continents. Data collection was obtained from the website of the International Volleyball Federation with a sample made of 1654 youth players in the last six world championships (2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017).

Background: Physical training, regardless of the presence of concurrent weight loss, provides numerous health benefits for individuals who are overweight and obese and have or are at risk for cardiovascular disease.
Purpose: The purpose of this review was to identify different types of physical training programs (aerobic, resistance, or combined), with or without counseling/diet modifications, and their impact on physical fitness in individuals who have class II and III obesity.
Data Sources: Medline and Medline In-Process, EMBASE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Web of Science, LILACS, CINAHL, SPORTDiscus, PEDro, and PubMed were searched up to June 2017.

Introduction: Bariatric surgery has a significant influence on body composition (BC), which should be monitored. However, there is a need to recommend low-cost practical methods, with good estimation of BC for class III obese and/or bariatric patients.
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine accuracy and agreement between BC assessed by direct segmental multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (DSM-BIA) and doubly labeled water (DLW) as reference method.
