Case Summary: An elderly diabetic and hypertensive male presented with acute renal failure and rhabdomyolysis. He experienced cardiac arrest with moderate hyperkalemia despite medical treatment and hemodialysis.

Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) is the preferred method of reperfusion for ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), if it can be performed in a timely manner by an experienced interventional cardiologist at a high volume STEMI Receiving Center. However, an estimated 50% of STEMI patients present to STEMI Referral Centers without PPCI capability. Transfer of STEMI patients for PPCI has been shown to improve outcomes as compared with fibrinolysis given at the presenting hospital.

Six hundred sixty-nine breast biopsies performed at the Methodist Hospital of Southern California and the Arcadia Outpatient Surgery Center during 1987 and 1988 were reviewed. Three hundred twenty-eight biopsies were performed for clinical indications (lump, thickening, or nipple discharge). Three hundred forty-one biopsies (51%) were performed because of mammographic abnormalities and required preoperative x-ray localization.
