Background: Interferon gamma‑1b has been proposed to treat critical illness-induced immunosuppression. We aimed to determine the effects on 90-day outcomes and the cost-effectiveness of interferon gamma‑1b compared to placebo in mechanically ventilated critically ill patients.

Methods: A cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) was embedded in the "PREV-HAP trial", a multicenter, placebo‑controlled, randomized trial, which randomly assigned critically ill adults under mechanical ventilation to receive interferon gamma or placebo.

Article Synopsis
  • Opioid use disorder (OUD) remains a global health issue, with relapse being heavily influenced by comorbid conditions such as ADHD.
  • Nearly half of the patients with OUD reported having ADHD in childhood, and about two-thirds continued to experience symptoms into adulthood, which negatively impacted treatment outcomes.
  • Factors like early onset of OUD, lower education, and high impulsivity were linked to poor results; ADHD's effect on treatment outcome was mediated by impulsive emotional responses rather than direct influence.

Article Synopsis
  • Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome involves severe nausea and vomiting linked to heavy cannabis use, raising concerns about cannabidiol (CBD) as a potential trigger due to its rising popularity in legalized areas.
  • A case study of a 32-year-old male who switched from cannabis to CBD revealed recurrent vomiting episodes related to CBD use, despite no cannabis consumption; hot showers temporarily alleviated symptoms.
  • Current hypotheses about the cause of cannabis-induced cyclic vomiting suggest possible mechanisms involving THC accumulation or CBD's effects on specific receptors, highlighting the need for further research into CBD's health impacts.

Objective: For several years, both the French Addictovigilance Network and French health authorities have consistently emphasized the need to provide opioid users with take-home naloxone (THN), the specific antidote for opioid overdoses. In March 2022, the French Health Authority recommended systematically assessing the appropriateness of prescribing THN to all opioid users, regardless of the context, and identified 8 high-risk situations. However, at present, THN distribution remains limited, particularly among primary care healthcare professionals.

INSERM, Methods in Patients-centered Outcomes and Health Research, SPHERE, CHU Tours, CHU Nantes, Tours Université, Nantes Université, Nantes, France.

Introduction: Polypharmacy in patients with advanced cancer represents a major public health problem, leading to risk of iatrogenesis, decrease of quality of life and increase of healthcare costs. In the field of geriatrics, health policies have been developed to address polypharmacy through the use of deprescribing tools. Recently, palliative care initiatives have been introduced, yet these have not fully considered the specificities of this population, particularly their perceptions.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the cornerstone to evaluate the efficacy of an intervention. To assess the methodology of clinical research, we performed a systematic review that evaluated the different outcomes used in RCTs targeting the early phase of moderate-to-severe adult TBI from 1983 to October 31, 2023.

Using cross-sectional data from a representative sample of the French population (the 2008 Disability Health survey), this paper examines whether the SF-6D, a widely used preference-based measure of health-related quality of life in economic evaluations, fully captures the variation in subjective well-being (SWB) due to chronic illnesses. We conduct a mediation analysis to disentangle the direct and indirect, through the SF-6D, effects of various chronic conditions on SWB (happiness). Our results show that the SF-6D reflects changes in happiness due to most illnesses except mental illness.
