Response shift in results of patient-reported outcome measures: a commentary to The Response Shift-in Sync Working Group initiative.

Purpose: The Working Group undertook a critical, comprehensive synthesis of the response shift work to date. We aimed to (1) describe the rationale for this initiative; (2) outline how the Working Group operated; (3) summarize the papers that comprise this initiative; and (4) discuss the way forward.

Methods: Four interdisciplinary teams, consisting of response shift experts, external experts, and new investigators, prepared papers on (1) definitions and theoretical underpinnings, (2) operationalizations and response shift methods, (3) implications for healthcare decision-making, and (4) on the published magnitudes of response shift effects.

How to Investigate the Effects of Groups on Changes in Longitudinal Patient-Reported Outcomes and Response Shift Using Rasch Models.

In order to investigate patients' experience of healthcare, repeated assessments of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) are increasingly performed in observational studies and clinical trials. Changes in PRO can however be difficult to interpret in longitudinal settings as patients' perception of the concept being measured may change over time, leading to response shift (longitudinal measurement non-invariance) and possibly to erroneous interpretation of the observed changes in PRO. Several statistical methods for response shift analysis have been proposed, but they usually assume that response shift occurs in the same way in all individuals within the sample regardless of their characteristics.

Although the fashion industry is highly influenced by marketing, research has poorly studied vulnerability to fashion marketing as a factor related to buying-shopping disorder (BSD) while considering psychological characteristics (buying motives, impulsivity, and self-esteem).

Background: The risk benefit ratio has been clearly proven for a long time to be in favor of vaccination. However, the vaccine distrust is still increasing in the French population and vaccination coverage could be improved. There is a real need to increase confidence in vaccination.

Evaluation of cognitive impairment in a French sample of patients with restrictive anorexia nervosa: two distinct profiles emerged with differences in impaired functions and psychopathological symptoms.

Purpose: The cognitive profiles of patients suffering from anorexia nervosa (AN) are currently explored as potential facilitating and/or maintenance factors. Specific data in restrictive AN (AN-R) remain contradictory. This study focused on women with AN-R to evaluate their cognitive functions to develop a more specific cognitive remediation program.

Inhibitory control in poker: Do experienced non-pathological poker gamblers exhibit better performance than healthy controls on motor, verbal and emotional expression inhibition?

Background And Aims: Strategic games, such as poker, require gamblers to develop several skills to perform better than others and to expect a potential gain. Players must remain as unpredictable and unreadable as possible by inhibiting the expression of their emotions in response to both good and bad poker events. The aim of the present study was to compare several aspects of the inhibition process in experienced poker gamblers and controls to better understand how inhibitory control is involved in poker performance.

Provision of information on transplantation to cystic fibrosis patients and their relatives: Overview of French practices and recommendations.

Background: How health-care professionals inform cystic fibrosis patients and their relatives about transplantation is not well known. Such information may not be provided in a timely or satisfactory manner. We conducted a survey about patient information practices among professionals from all French cystic fibrosis centers and transplant centers, to determine how they might be improved.

Practical issues encountered while determining Minimal Clinically Important Difference in Patient-Reported Outcomes.

Background: Using a real dataset, we highlighted several major methodological issues raised by the estimation of the Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID) of a Patient-Reported Outcomes instrument. We especially considered the management of missing data and the use of more than two times of measurement. While inappropriate missing data management and inappropriate use of multiple time points can lead to loss of precision and/or bias in MCID estimation, these issues are almost never dealt with and require cautious considerations in the context of MCID estimation.

Dental Management of Neurofibromatosis Type 1: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Unlabelled: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a clinically heterogeneous neurocutaneous genetic disorder that manifests in the form of coffee-milk spots on the skin, Lish nodules, lentigines on the underarms and on the inguinal region, and neurofibromas. Orofacial manifestations of NF1 are common. Through a review of the literature, bone lesions, orthodontic and dental abnormalities, periodontal manifestations, and caries related to NF1 will be explored.

Background: Many studies were conducted to assess the benefit/risk of equimolar mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide (EMONO), but evaluating the appetite associated to its use is now getting very little attention in the literature. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects present, felt, and sought during care by the child related with the 50% nitrous oxide/oxygen (EMONO) sedation used in pediatric dentistry.

Materials And Methods: All patients in consultation with the Dental Service of Nantes hospital and in need of EMONO were included in the study.

Patient involvement in healthcare workers' practices: how does it operate? A mixed-methods study in a French university hospital.

Background: The present challenge for patient involvement is the improvement of healthcare efficiency through a deeper consideration of the patient experience. In hospitals, numerous interventions promoting patient involvement are informally implemented by healthcare workers (HCWs). The first aim of this study was to conduct an overview of hospital HCWs' experiences of the involvement of patients or their representatives.

A Typology of Buyers Grounded in Psychological Risk Factors for Compulsive Buying (Impulsivity, Self-Esteem, and Buying Motives): Latent Class Analysis Approach ina Community Sample.

Our objective was to identify meaningful subgroups of buyers based on psychological risk factors for compulsive buying. A community sample of 242 adult women fulfilled an online survey exploring buying habits and motives, impulsivity, self-esteem, and severity of compulsive buying. A latent class cluster analysis was performed.

Impact of alcohol marketing on drinkers with Alcohol use disorders seeking treatment: a mixed-method study protocol.

Background: The marketing of alcohol influences patterns of alcohol consumption. Existing studies have focused, for the most part, on adolescents and the links between exposure to marketing and alcohol initiation. In France, the Evin law, a French exception, was set up in 1991 with the aim of regulating this exposure to marketing, but since 2009 it has been severely compromised.

Terminally Differentiated Effector Memory CD8 T Cells Identify Kidney Transplant Recipients at High Risk of Graft Failure.

Background: Identifying biomarkers to predict kidney transplant failure and to define new therapeutic targets requires more comprehensive understanding of the immune response to chronic allogeneic stimulation.

Methods: We investigated the frequency and function of CD8 T cell subsets-including effector memory (EM) and terminally differentiated EM (TEMRA) CD8 T cells-in blood samples from 284 kidney transplant recipients recruited 1 year post-transplant and followed for a median of 8.3 years.

Purpose: A diagnosis of breast cancer or melanoma is a traumatic life event that patients have to face. However, their locus-of-control (LOC) beliefs and coping strategies as well as the associations with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) changes over time are still not well known and rarely compared by cancer site.

Methods: The objective of this longitudinal study was to assess the association of LOC (Cancer Locus-of-Control Scale) and coping (Brief Cope) changes, with change in HRQoL (EORTC QLQ-C30) over time in newly diagnosed breast cancer and melanoma patients at 1, 6, 12, and 24 month post-diagnosis.

Cortisol total/CRP ratio for the prediction of hospital-acquired pneumonia and initiation of corticosteroid therapy in traumatic brain-injured patients.

Background: To propose a combination of blood biomarkers for the prediction of hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) and for the selection of traumatic brain-injured (TBI) patients eligible for corticosteroid therapy for the prevention of HAP.

Methods: This was a sub-study of the CORTI-TC trial, a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial evaluating the risk of HAP at day 28 in 336 TBI patients treated or not with corticosteroid therapy. Patients were between 15 and 65 years with severe traumatic brain injury (Glasgow coma scale score ≤ 8 and trauma-associated lesion on brain CT scan) and were enrolled within 24 h of trauma.

Background: Few studies have examined the consumption trajectories of inmates after entry to prison. The aim of this study was to assess the changes in the consumption of psychoactive substance between the period before detention and during incarceration and to characterize the profiles of prisoners with similar consumption trajectories during incarceration.

Methods And Findings: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was performed in all of the prisons from one region of France.

Comparison of longitudinal quality of life outcomes in preemptive and dialyzed patients on waiting list for kidney transplantation.

Purpose: The waiting list period for kidney transplantation can be lengthy and associated with a deteriorated health-related quality of life (HRQoL). It might also be experienced differently depending on the experience of renal replacement therapy (preemptive or dialyzed patients), and the type of dialysis. The main objective of this study is to measure and compare HRQoL changes in preemptive, hemodialysis (HD), and peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients during the waiting list period for kidney transplantation.

An updated matrix to predict rapid radiographic progression of early rheumatoid arthritis patients: pooled analyses from several databases.

Objective: In early RA, some patients exhibit rapid radiographic progression (RRP) after one year, associated with poor functional prognosis. Matrices predicting this risk have been proposed, lacking precision or inadequately calibrated. We developed a matrix to predict RRP with high precision and adequate calibration.

Tracheostomy and long-term mortality in ICU patients undergoing prolonged mechanical ventilation.

Introduction: In critically ill patients undergoing prolonged mechanical ventilation (MV), the difference in long-term outcomes between patients with or without tracheostomy remains unexplored.

Methods: Ancillary study of a prospective international multicentre observational cohort in 21 centres in France and Belgium, including 2087 patients, with a one-year follow-up after admission. We included patients with a MV duration ≥10 days, with or without tracheostomy.

French national health insurance database analysis and field study focusing on the impact of secure prescription pads on zolpidem consumption and sedative drug misuse: ZORRO study protocol.

Introduction: In recent years, data collected by the French Addictovigilance Network have shown the potential for abuse and addiction associated with zolpidem (the most sold hypnotic drug in France). Since 10 April 2017, new regulations have come into force that require zolpidem to be prescribed on special secure prescription pads, in order to reduce the risk of abuse or misuse. This measure has far-reaching repercussions that are not only limited to the consumption of zolpidem but also extend to the usage of sedative medication on a whole.
