Sentinel lymph node biopsy holds significant importance in cancer management, yet the challenge persists in early detection and precise resection of metastasis lymph nodes (LNs) due to the absence of specific and sensitive optical probes. This study reports metastatic LN reporters (MLRs) with an activatable optical output for accurate spatiotemporal mapping of lymphatic metastases in gastric cancer. MLRs are self-assembled entities incorporating mixed amphiphiles with a lipophilic tail and a tumor-targeting ligand or a fluorescent moiety that is caged with a switch cleavable by tumor-specific β-galactosidase (β-Gal).

  • Carcinoma-ex-Pleomorphic Adenoma (CXPA) is a rare malignant tumor that develops from a pre-existing benign Pleomorphic Adenoma, often affecting minor salivary glands like the palate, and has a significant risk of metastasis.
  • A 52-year-old man had a painless, progressively enlarging palatal mass for seven years, which upon examination was found to be non-tender, firm, and adhered to underlying tissues without any prior medical trauma.
  • Pathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of CXPA, revealing both benign pleomorphic adenoma and malignant features in the same tumor sample, emphasizing the importance of histopathological evaluation for accurate diagnosis.

  • Chromatophoromas are neoplasms in fish, reptiles, and amphibians, with iridophoromas specifically affecting light-reflecting cells in Siamese fighting fish.
  • In a study of 71 cases, 63% of the tumors were malignant, often invading nearby muscle or metastasizing, while the rest were confined to the skin and couldn't be firmly classified as benign or malignant.
  • There was a notable occurrence of iridophoromas among young male fish, especially those with royal blue and fancy copper colors, suggesting a possible genetic link to the development of these tumors.

Metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma of parotid gland: Case report.

SAGE Open Med Case Rep

Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital, Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

Pleomorphic adenoma is a benign tumor and the most common salivary gland neoplasm. Metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma shares histological characteristics with pleomorphic adenoma but exhibits malignant behavior, including local lymph node involvement and/or distant metastasis. Several potential risk factors for metastasizing pleomorphic adenoma have been identified, some of which are associated with incomplete tumor clearance due to inadequate surgical techniques used in the treatment of primary pleomorphic adenoma.

Purpose: To investigate the value of 2-deoxy-18f-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) for the differential diagnosis of patients with benign lung diseases and those with NSCLC. To explore the phenotypic heterogeneity of CTCs and their correlation with FDG uptake in patients with Stage I-IV NSCLC.

Methods: Blood specimens from patients with benign lung diseases and patients with primary NSCLC were collected for the detection of CTCs and their subtypes (epithelial, mixed, and mesenchymal) and analyzed for 18F-FDG PET/CT tumor metabolic parameters, including the maximum standardized uptake value (SUV), standard uptake value (SUL), metabolic tumor volume of primary lesion (MTV), total lesion glycolysis of primary lesion (TLG).

Objective: Carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma (CEXPA) represents a malignant transformation from a recurrent or primary pleomorphic adenoma (PA), and the immune response may be essential in this process. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to identify and quantify subpopulations of dendritic cells (DCs) in CEXPA, residual PA in CEXPA (rPA), and PA.

Materials And Methods: A multicenter study was performed collecting salivary gland tumor (SGT) samples from three Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology Centers.

Article Synopsis
  • - Testicular teratomas can appear in both children and adult men, but prognosis varies significantly, with pediatric teratomas usually being benign and occurring mostly before age 4, while adult teratomas often form part of mixed germ cell tumors with higher risk for metastasis.
  • - In rare cases, testicular teratomas can transform into malignant tumors, such as primitive neuroectodermal tumors, which are aggressive and can spread to various locations like the retroperitoneum.
  • - A specific case is highlighted where a patient experienced malignant transformation of a teratoma, leading to metastasis in the mediastinum, and was treated with a combination of surgery and a chemotherapy regimen known as VAC/IE.

Aims: Recently, HMGA2::WIF1 fusion has been reported in pleomorphic adenoma (PAs) originating from the parotid gland with a characteristic canalicular adenoma (CAA)-like pattern. However, it is unclear whether HMGA2::WIF1 fusion may occur in salivary gland carcinoma or tumours originating from the minor salivary glands. We herein conducted a detailed clinicopathological review of eight salivary gland tumours harbouring HMGA2::WIF1 fusions.

Canine mammary tumors (CMTs) are the most diagnosed neoplasms in dogs; however, there are few studies analyzing the influence of epidemiological, clinicopathological, and histopathological data on cancer-specific survival (CSS), disease-free interval (DFI), and overall survival (OS) in a large cohort. To contribute to the understanding of the biological behavior of this neoplasm, 385 cases were analyzed, 89% malignant, 4% benign, and 7% non-neoplastic lesions. Among the dogs diagnosed with malignant neoplasms, 86% had early clinical stages (I-III), while 14% had regional or distant metastasis at the time of diagnosis.
