Aims/hypothesis: Upregulation of serum leucine-rich α-2-glycoprotein 1 (LRG1) has been implicated in diet-induced obesity and metabolic disorders. However, its specific hormonal actions remain unclear. This study aimed to determine whether diet-enhanced serum LRG1 levels promote hyperinsulinaemia by directly stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells.

Background: Arterial stiffness is a crucial factor in determining an increase in systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure and can also predict the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between arterial stiffness and future CVD.
Methods: Out of the original 9704 participants in the Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerotic disorder (MASHAD) cohort study, we randomly selected 363 healthy participants, 226 normal subjects (who reported symptoms of CVD but were not confirmed) and 292 individuals who had experienced a major cardiovascular event.

Recent advances in the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) have highlighted the integration of metal-based nanoparticles into sophisticated therapeutic strategies. This examination delves into the potential applications of these nanoparticles, particularly in augmenting the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and targeted drug delivery systems. Metal nanoparticles, such as gold (Au), silver (Ag), and copper (Cu), possess distinctive characteristics that make them valuable in cancer treatment.

Background: This investigation investigates the anti-inflammatory and fibrinolytic effects of a cocktail of probiotics derived from traditional dairy products in a murine model of ulcerative colitis (UC).
Materials And Methods: A mix of newly isolated probiotics containing , and was characterized and orally administered to inbred eight-week-old C57BL/6 male mice (n = 6). Clinical symptoms, pathohistological changes, and inflammatory and fibrosis markers were analyzed in the existence and absence of probiotics in colitis mice.

In the current study we fabricated potent materials by incorporating therapeutic elements into calcium phosphates (CPs) to combat cancer. This involved synthesizing manganese (Mn)- and lithium (Li)-doped CPs and loading them into electrospun nanofibers (NFs) composed of chitosan (CS) and polyethylene oxide (PEO). The characterized CPs exhibited excellent properties, including a particle size of 47-75 nm, surface charge of -(30-56) mV, and specific surface area of 75-266 m/g.

Liver cancer, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, following pancreatic cancer. The 5-year overall survival rate for HCC remains relatively low. Currently, there are multiple treatment options available for HCC, including systemic drugs, minimally invasive local therapies such as radiofrequency ablation, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), and arterial radioembolization (TARE), as well as surgical interventions like liver resection or transplantation.

Oxygen-free radicals have been implicated in the initiation of diabetic complications. Thiazolidinediones (TZDs), known for their antidiabetic properties, also demonstrate notable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Although a recently developed imidazolyl analogue of pioglitazone (PA9) has exhibited superior glucose-lowering efficacy compared to pioglitazone, its antioxidant effects remain unexplored.

Background: The two-step Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) approach was recently introduced to malnutrition diagnosis in a hospital setting. This study compares the diagnostic performance of this approach that uses the Nutritional Risk Screening-2002 (NRS-2002) as a screening tool and the direct application of GLIM malnutrition diagnostic criteria in hospitalized patients.
Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 290 adult and older adult patients who were hospitalized.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) significantly diminishes an individual's quality of life and increases the risk of colorectal cancer. Recent clinical and experimental findings suggest that infection with parasitic helminths may suppress the development of certain inflammatory conditions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the immunoregulatory effects of Dicrocoelium eggs on experimentally induced colitis in C57BL/6 mice using dextran sulfate sodium (DSS).

Ulcerative Colitis (UC) known as a sub-category of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) is a longterm condition that causes inflammation, irritation, and ulcers in the colon and rectum. Though the precise pathogenesis of UC is not fully understood yet, impaired immune responses and imbalanced intestinal microbiome composition have been regarded as two main key players in colitis pathobiology. As conventional treatments are challenged with limitations and side effects, finding a new therapeutic approach has gained increasing attention.

Background: Human T-cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1) is a well-known retrovirus, particularly prevalent in northeastern Iran, where it is associated with a range of disorders, including liver dysfunction. Previous studies have demonstrated that HTLV-1 infection can alter lipid profiles, yet no research has examined lipid indices and liver function tests in these patients in the long term.
Methods: This data is part of the Mashhad stroke and heart atherosclerotic disorder (MASHAD) study.

Intrauterine adhesion (IUA), also referred to as Asherman's syndrome, is characterized by fibrosis, inflammation, and can cause amenorrhea and infertility due to abnormal endometrial healing. Histological and Molecular methods were used to evaluate the efficacy of EPO, which is traditionally known for its anti-inflammatory and fibrinolytic properties, in preventing the formation of IUA. Oral administration of EPO reduced the formation of adhesion bands and promoted endometrial regeneration.

Introduction: The differential expression of miRNAs, a key regulator in many cell signaling pathways, has been studied in various malignancies and may have an important role in cancer progression, including colorectal cancer (CRC).
Method: The present study used machine learning and gene interaction study tools to explore the prognostic and diagnostic value of miRNAs in CRC. Integrative analysis of 353 CRC samples and normal tissue data was obtained from the TCGA database and further analyzed by R packages to define the deferentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs).

Introduction: Cervical cancer is among the most common types of cancer in women and is associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. The association between cervical cancer and high-risk HPV infection has been well documented. However, the effect of simultaneous infection with high- and low-risk HPV or low-risk HPV alone on the risk of developing cervical malignancy remains unanswered in guidelines.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is influenced by several factors, among which genetic polymorphisms play a key role. Polymorphisms in various genes affect key pathways involved in HCC development, including metabolism, expression of inflammatory cytokines, cell proliferation, and apoptosis regulation. These polymorphisms induce differential effects on susceptibility to HCC, disease progression, and treatment outcomes.

Partial least squares structural equation modeling is a simple approach that may be used to determine the factors associated with diseases. In the current study, we aimed to explore the most associated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) as well as hematologic-inflammatory indices for the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). A total of 7362 healthy (non-CVD) participants aged 35-65 years old from baseline investigation were evaluated in the Phase 2 follow-up.
