Schwannomas are mainly benign tumors arising from the Schwann cells of the peripheral nerve sheath. These tumors can often be associated with non-specific symptoms, such as abdominal heaviness. In this article, we present a detailed description of the surgical management of a giant sacral schwannoma in an elderly patient, for which intraoperative neuromonitoring made it possible to distinguish easily the nerves of the sacral plexus from which the tumor originated and to remove it without complications.

Background: The development of multimodality treatment, including cytoreductive surgery (CRS) with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), has led to promising results in selected patients with peritoneal disease of gastric origin. Until the early 1990s, peritoneal metastasis was considered as terminal stage of the disease; in the late 1990s, selected patients with peritoneal metastasis were recategorized as local disease.

Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a primary immunodeficiency due to a disorder of the adaptive immune system which causes hypogammaglobulinemia and therefore an increased susceptibility to infection; noninfectious, inflammatory conditions including systemic autoimmunity and lymphoproliferative complications are also commonly associated with CVID. Castleman disease (CD) is a systemic disease clinically characterized by diffuse lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, anemia, and systemic inflammatory symptoms. This makes CD a great mimicker of more common benign and malignant masses in the neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis.
