OCCUPATIONAL APPLICATIONSResults from our exploratory study of restaurant worker mental models of injury and safety emphasize the need for improved occupational safety in the culinary industry through targeted interventions for chefs and managers. The analysis we performed showed that managers possess more integrated and coherent mental models of injury and safety than chefs, reflected in network parameters showing better organization of safety concepts. Kitchen training programs should focus on bridging gaps in safety awareness and mitigating hazards such as burns, cuts, slips, and equipment-related risks.

Additive manufacturing known as 3D printing has transformed the material landscape, with intricate structures and rapid prototyping for modern production. While nanoscale 3D printing has made significant progress, a critical challenge remains in the rapid, high-throughput tailoring of complex nanostructures. Here, we present a 3D printing-facilitated, light-driven assembly technology for rapid surface patterning consisting of complex particle nanonetworks with balanced fabrication resolution and processing scalability.

The warm Western Boundary Currents (WBCs) and their zonal extensions are persistent, deep, strong and narrow oceanic currents. They are known to anchor and energize the Extra-Tropical storm tracks by frontal thermal air-sea interactions. However, even in the latest generation of climate models, WBCs are characterized by large biases, and both the present storm-track activity and its recent intensification are poorly estimated.

We present novel fluorescent cholesteryl probes (CNDs) with a modular design based on the solvatochromic 1,8-phthalimide scaffold. We have explored how different modules-linkers and head groups-affect the ability of these probes to integrate into lipid membranes and how they distribute intracellularly in mouse astrocytes and fibroblasts targeting lysosomes and lipid droplets. Each compound was assessed for its solvatochromic behavior in organic solvents and model membranes.

Context: Athletic trainers (ATs) are in a unique position to mitigate the negative impact of social determinants of health (SDH) in their patients. In the secondary school setting, understanding common SDH may inform strategies that reduce these impacts. However, little is known about the types of SDH that ATs observe in patients in this setting.

Universal shade flowable composites have been introduced to mimic tooth structure with reduced color mismatch and reduced chair time and cost. However, the polymerization shrinkage of resin material may lead to sensitivity and restoration failure. The purpose of this study was to compare the polymerization shrinkage of recently introduced universal shade flowable resin-based composites using both wet and dry density methods.

This study aims to design microgels that are thermo- and pH-sensitive for controlled doxorubicin (Dox) release in response to tumor microenvironment changes. N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) is widely used for thermoresponsive tumor-targeted drug delivery systems for the release of therapeutic payloads in response to temperature changes. Herein, a NIPAAm microgel (MP) that is responsive to temperature and pH was designed for the smart delivery of Dox.

Background: The Brunelli flap is an option in the reconstruction of the thumb after trauma or oncological resections. The arc of movement of the flap makes it possible to resolve defects in the proximal, palmar, dorsal, and lateral regions.
Methods: We present a case series of 11 patients in whom a Brunelli flap was performed for postoncological reconstruction, melanoma in situ, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the thumb nail unit associated with Mohs micrographic surgery.
Unlabelled: "Single Model initial-condition Large Ensembles" (SMILEs) conducted with Earth system models have transformed our ability to quantify internal climate variability and forced climate change at local and regional scales. An important consideration in their experimental design is the choice of initialization procedure as this influences the duration of initial-condition memory, with implications for interpreting the temporal evolution of both the ensemble-mean and ensemble-spread. Here we leverage the strategic design of the 100-member Community Earth System Model version 2 (CESM2) SMILE to investigate the dependence of ensemble spread on the method of initialization (micro- vs.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and its variants are a continuous threat to human life. An urgent need remains for simple and fast tests that reliably detect active infections with SARS-CoV-2 and its variants in the early stage of infection. Here we introduce a simple and rapid activity-based diagnostic (ABDx) test that identifies SARS-CoV-2 infections by measuring the activity of a viral enzyme, Papain-Like protease (PLpro).

The accumulation of plastic waste from various sources into marine and inland water is considered a global problem due to its serious impacts on aquatic ecosystems and human health. In the past decade, remote sensing has played an important role in monitoring of plastic pollution in marine and inland water sources and has achieved a series of research results in this field. In this study, a comprehensive review was conducted on the development, opportunities, and challenges of datasets and methods in Marine and Inland Water Plastics Remote Sensing (MIWPRS) monitoring over the past decade, based on the Web of Science (WOS) core database.

Here, we systematically investigate the effect of mesa/sub-mesa sidewall engineering on single-junction (SJ) and high-voltage (HV) deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (DUV LEDs). The configuration of ∼46° inclined angle of the mesa/sub-mesa sidewall and Al reflector optimally promotes light extraction of SJ/HV DUV LEDs. We further observe substantial improvements in the self-heating and external quantum efficiency (EQE) droop effects of HV DUV LEDs with an increasing number of sub-mesas.

Background And Objectives: There is an increasing and renewed interest in Electronic Health Records (EHRs) as a substantial information source for clinical decision making. Consequently, automatic de-identification of EHRs is an indispensable task, since their dissociation from personal data is a necessary prerequisite for their dissemination. Nevertheless, the bulk of prior research in this domain has been conducted using English EHRs, given the limited availability of annotated corpora in other languages, including Spanish.
