Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the roles of hyperlipidemia and inflammation in ascending aortic aneurysm (AAA) by analyzing specific indices in patients and controls.
  • Of the various indices measured, only the pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) showed a significant difference between AAA patients and controls, indicating its potential importance in predicting AAA progression.
  • The findings suggest that while hyperlipidemia may not directly influence AAA, inflammation could be a critical factor, highlighting the need for better management strategies in early-stage AAA.

We investigated the hypoglycemic activity and pharmacokinetic study of two synthesized benzoyl benzodioxol derivatives, compound I (methyl 2-(6-(2-bromobenzoyl)benzo[][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)acetate), and compound II, 2-(6-benzoylbenzo[][1,3]dioxol-5-yl)acetic acid, which showed very strong α-amylase inhibiting activity in our previous study. Then, diabetes was induced by the injection of streptozotocin to mice. The molecular docking simulations and analyses of density functional theory analyses were conducted to study the binding interactions with human pancreatic alpha-amylase, and their pharmacokinetic properties were further evaluated by ADMET profiling.

  • This study evaluated the effectiveness of first-line antiseizure medications in 1003 newly diagnosed children with epilepsy, focusing on their drug efficacy rates and resistance levels over an average follow-up period of 22 months.
  • The first-drug efficacy rate was approximately 67% for children with focal-onset seizures and 66% for those with generalized-onset seizures, while the overall first-drug failure rate was reported at 33%.
  • Notably, children with structural etiology exhibited a significantly lower first-drug efficacy rate of 53% and a 30% rate of drug-resistant epilepsy, compared to higher success rates in those with defined epilepsy syndromes (79%).

Purpose: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we investigated assisted reproductive technology (ART) success in infertile men with clinical varicocele and abnormal semen parameters who underwent varicocele repair (VR) before the ART procedure as compared to those who did not.

Materials And Methods: A comprehensive search of the Scopus, PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases was conducted using a specific query string to identify studies examining the impact of VR on ART outcomes, including fertilization rate, clinical pregnancy, pregnancy loss, and live-birth rate, until October 2023. Outcomes were analyzed based on the type of ART.
