The aim of this analysis was to assess the cost-effectiveness of the EmboTrap Revascularization Device compared with the Solitaire™ Revascularization Device and Trevo Retriever for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) from the perspective of the Chinese healthcare system. According to MASTRO I, a recent living systematic literature review and meta-analysis, mechanical thrombectomy (MT) with EmboTrap in the treatment of AIS resulted in better functional outcomes compared with the use of Solitaire or Trevo. Based on the proportion of patients that achieved 90-day modified Rankin Scale (mRS) scores of 0-2, 3-5 and 6 reported in MASTRO I, a combined 90-day short-term decision tree and Markov model with a 10-year time horizon was used to compare the cost-effectiveness of the three devices.

Background: Diagnosis of cardiac amyloidosis (CA) is often delayed due to variability in clinical presentation. The electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most common and widely available tools for assessing cardiovascular diseases. Artificial intelligence (AI) models analyzing ECG have recently been developed to detect CA, but their pooled accuracy is yet to be evaluated.

MR Imaging Features of Critical Spinal Demyelinating Lesions Associated with Progressive Motor Impairment.

AJNR Am J Neuroradiol

July 2024

From the Department of Neurology (B.M.K., E.S., S.N., B.B., R.A., J.M., O.K., B.G.W., E.P.F.), Center for Multiple Sclerosis and Autoimmune Neurology, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.

Background And Purpose: Progressive MS is typically heralded by a myelopathic pattern of asymmetric progressive motor weakness. Focal individual "critical" demyelinating spinal cord lesions anatomically associated with progressive motor impairment may be a compelling explanation for this clinical presentation as described in progressive solitary sclerosis (single CNS demyelinating lesion), progressive demyelination with highly restricted MR imaging lesion burden (2-5 total CNS demyelinating lesions; progressive paucisclerotic MS), and progressive, exclusively unilateral hemi- or monoparetic MS (>5 CNS demyelinating progressive unilateral hemi- or monoparetic MS [PUHMS] lesions). Critical demyelinating lesions appear strikingly similar across these cohorts, and we describe their specific spinal cord MR imaging characteristics.

Uterine rupture following trauma in pregnancy is rare, especially in earlier gestational ages. The diagnosis can be challenging, and treatment may be delayed when patients present with nonspecific findings. Therefore, a high index of suspicion must be maintained.

Objective: Carrier screening with reflex to single-gene noninvasive prenatal testing (sgNIPT) is an alternative approach for identifying pregnancies at risk for inherited autosomal recessive conditions without the need for a sample from the reproductive partner. This study is the largest clinical validation of this approach in a general population setting.

Methods: The clinical performance of carrier screening with reflex to sgNIPT for cystic fibrosis, spinal muscular atrophy, alpha thalassemias, and beta hemoglobinopathies was assessed by collecting pregnancy outcome data on patients who underwent this testing and comparing the neonatal outcome to the assay-predicted fetal risk.
