The fifth biennial Advanced Dental Education Summit was organized by the ADEA Council on Advanced Education Programs. With a focus on "Resident selection, assessment, and management," the summit aimed to discuss best practices for selecting, assessing, and managing advanced education residents. Expert presentations covered the resident's journey from interview to graduation, emphasizing strategies for supporting resident wellness, success, and evaluation.

Oral health and dental treatment are essential during pregnancy. Despite dental treatment being safe during pregnancy for mother and baby, many dentists are reluctant to treat pregnant people. Previously published FDA and ADA recommendations for the treatment of pregnant people exist.

Perception and Knowledge of Oral and Facial Piercings among Dental Students: Web-based Survey.

Aim: The aim of this web-based questionnaire was to survey dental students to obtain their perception and knowledge of oral and facial piercings.

Materials And Methods: The participants comprised 240 students enrolled in the dental school who were asked to complete 20 close-ended, yes/no, yes/no/do not know, and multiple responses questions. The questionnaire covers general information concerning oral/facial piercing, triggers why youths and early adults get it, probable complications, their appreciation of the possibility of related health conditions, and their knowledge and perception.

Does orthodontic treatment using clear aligners and fixed appliances affect periodontal status differently?

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of clinical trials, and prospective or retrospective cohort. The protocol of the study was registered in advance on PROSPERO.

Data Sources: An electronic search in MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, and The Cochrane Library was conducted by two independent authors up to September 2022.

Daily prevention and professional preventive care have the most significant impacts on reducing oral disease in the aging population. Providers of oral health care extend beyond traditional dental professionals to include caregivers and health care providers through teledentistry and interprofessional collaboration.

A Co-Association of Streptococcus mutans and Veillonella parvula/dispar in Root Caries Patients and Biofilms.

Root caries in geriatric patients is a growing problem as more people are maintaining their natural teeth into advanced age. We determined the levels of various bacterial species previously implicated in root caries disease or health using quantitative real-time PCR in a pilot study of 7 patients with 1 to 4 root caries lesions per person. Levels of 12 different species on diseased roots compared to healthy (contralateral control) roots were measured.

Complications of sinus floor elevation procedure and management strategies: A systematic review.

Aim: This systematic review aimed to investigates the types and incidences of complications following sinus floor elevations (SFE) along with their prevention and management strategies.

Materials And Methods: Electronic database and hand search were conducted to screen the literature published from January 1960 to June 2021. The selected studies had to report well-described SFE techniques, complications during, and post-SFE.

Effect of a Self-Assembly Peptide on Surface Roughness and Hardness of Bleached Enamel.

After bleaching, enamel surfaces are damaged, contributing to erosion and tooth sensitivity. Although fluoride is used after bleaching to try and revert alterations, it is not capable of repairing tooth structure. This study compared the effect of a self-assembly peptide (P11-4), with and without fluoride, and sodium fluoride (NaF 2%) on the Knoop microhardness (KHN) and surface roughness (Ra (μm)) of bleached enamel with an in-office bleaching regimen.

Supernumerary tooth autotransplantation to replace missing maxillary central incisor using three-dimensional replica: A 6-year follow-up.

Introduction: Tooth autotransplantation is a viable surgical treatment option for patients with missing permanent teeth. Premolars are generally used for autotransplantation but often require extensive modifications. This case report evaluates the use of supernumerary tooth as an alternative option for premolar autotransplantation.

Microbiology-Based Instruction during Prenatal Dental Visits Improves Perinatal Oral Health Literacy.

To improve oral hygiene education, we evaluated the perception and potential impact of microbiology-focused oral hygiene instructions (OHI) given to pregnant patients. Dental hygienists provided this supplemental education and administered Saliva-Check Mutans (SCM) tests to pregnant patients (n = 188) in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) settings. Patients reported their self-perceived understanding of the relationship between oral bacteria and dental disease and returned postdelivery to receive a second SCM test and follow-up questionnaire (n = 47).

Topical Fluoride Effectiveness in High Caries Risk Adults.

This retrospective analysis of longitudinal data was developed to determine which types, combinations, and intensities of topical fluorides more effectively prevent new caries-related restorations and extractions in high caries risk adults. We included data from October 1, 2008, through June 30, 2018, from electronic dental and medical records and pharmacy database from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans who were eligible for continuing and comprehensive care, met the criteria of high caries risk (received 2 or more caries-related restorations within a 365-d period), and had 3 y of follow-up were included.

Human rotavirus (HRV) infection is a major cause of viral gastroenteritis in young children worldwide. Current oral vaccines perform poorly in developing countries where efficacious vaccines are needed the most. Therefore, an alternative affordable strategy to enhance efficacy of the current RV vaccines is necessary.

Survival of endodontically treated permanent teeth among children: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Outcome studies of nonsurgical root canal treatment (NSRCT) in permanent teeth of children are scarce. This study investigated survival and assessed the variables associated with failure of endodontically treated teeth (ETT) in 6- to 18-year-olds.

Methods: Records of subjects who received NSRCT at age 6-18 years at Boston University between 2007 and 2015 were assessed for the occurrence of untoward events.

Background: This study assesses and compares the knowledge level of endodontists (ENDs) and general dental practitioners (GPs) from Brazil and United States of America (USA) in the diagnosis and treatment of internal and external inflammatory root resorptions through periapical radiographic (PA) and cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) examinations.

Material And Methods: A cross-sectional online questionnaire-based survey was presented to the volunteers containing questions regarding personal and professional profile, as well as three clinical cases of internal and external inflammatory root resorption. A series of multiple-choice questions about the diagnosis and treatment options were surveyed.

Custom allogeneic block graft for ridge augmentation: Case series.

Introduction: Alveolar bone deficiency is a common postextraction sequela that adversely affects implant placement. Therefore, ridge augmentation is often required to obtain proper bone quantity and quality for restoratively driven implant placement. This case series describes the successful horizontal and vertical alveolar ridge augmentation using custom-fabricated allogeneic block bone grafts.

Validation of a Subjective Caries Risk Assessment Tool.

Objective: The objective was to evaluate the predictive validity of the American Dental Association's caries risk assessment (CRA) tool, adapted with permission, and used by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs dental services within their electronic dental record.

Comparison of two arbitrary cast transfer systems with a kinematic facebow for mounting a maxillary cast on a semiadjustable articulator.

Statement Of Problem: The Kois Dento-Facial Analyzer (KDFA) is used by clinicians to mount maxillary casts and to evaluate and treat patients. Limited information is available for understanding whether the KDFA should be considered as an alternative to an arbitrary facebow.

Purpose: The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate and compare maxillary casts mounted by using the KDFA with casts mounted by using the Panadent Pana-Mount Facebow (PMF) and a kinematic axis (KA) facebow.

Effect of Light Curing on Silver Diamine Fluoride in Primary Incisors: A Microscopic Study.

To determine the effect of a dental curing light on the penetration depth of silver diamine fluoride (SDF), dentin hardness, and silver and fluoride ion precipitation into cavitated carious lesions. SDF was applied on 16 primary incisors extracted due to caries extending into dentin. Teeth were divided into two groups: (1) control group, was not light-cured; and (2) test group, was light-cured.

Materials And Methods: A literature review was conducted in the following databases: Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews (EBMR), Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Embase, and Ovid MEDLINE(R) and Epub Ahead of Print. Articles on patient factors and occlusal force were compiled by using a combination of the key words: "bite force," "occlusal force," "partial and complete edentulism," "bruxism," and "orthognathic class.
