Background: Odontogenic cysts of the jaws are pathologies that require timely recognition and management. The initial diagnosis is based on clinical and radiographic appearance and dental history. A variety of surgical treatments are used for odontogenic keratocyst (OKC) depending on the clinical and radiographic presentation.

Dental caries among long-term care (LTC) residents is a persistent and complex problem driven by social and structural factors. Systems thinking may be useful in considering novel approaches to reducing disease. This study aimed to develop a system dynamics model to simulate the progression of dentate older adults in LTC through caries severity states and estimate the effects of 3 intervention scenarios on the progression of caries: preventive topical fluoride (TF), arrest of caries with silver diamine fluoride (SDF), and a combination of TF and SDF.

Jaw osteosarcoma (JOS) is a rare, distinct variant that differ from long bone osteosarcoma (LBOS) in several aspects. JOS typically appears about twenty years later than LBOS, displays a lower propensity for metastasis to other organs, and exhibits better survival rates. The dissimilarities in clinical and biological behavior between JOS and LBOS are likely due, at least in part, to variations in their respective microenvironments.

Background/objectives: The prevention of white spot lesions (WSLs) during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances is of paramount importance to orthodontists. Numerous non-invasive techniques have been extensively researched to effectively manage WSLs. The objective of this study was to investigate the efficacy of MI varnish application, diode laser irradiation and their combination on remineralization of WSLs.

Poor oral health can impact overall health. This study assessed the association between dental factors (dentate status and dental utilization) and self-rated health (S-RH) among older adults in two cross-sectional datasets: (1) NIH "All of Us (AoU) Research Program" (May 2018-July 2022 release) and (2) U.S.

Statement Of Problem: Cast cobalt chromium (Co-Cr) frameworks for removable partial dentures may have undesirable micromechanical properties leading to clinical failures. Co-Cr frameworks made by selective laser melting (SLM) may have improved micromechanical properties, but comparative studies are lacking.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the micromechanical properties of SLM for Co-Cr alloys with those produced by conventional casting.

Radiographic examination has been an essential part of the diagnostic workflow in periodontology and implant dentistry. However, radiographic examination unavoidably involves ionizing radiation and its associated risks. Clinicians and researchers have invested considerable efforts in assessing the feasibility and capability of utilizing nonionizing imaging modalities to replace traditional radiographic imaging.

Design: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs), non-randomized studies of intervention (NRSIs), cohort and cross-sectional studies. The systematic review was registered in advance on PROSPERO, and was conducted following the Cochrane Handbook of Systematic Reviews of Interventions and PRISMA checklist.
Data Sources: An electronic search in three databases (PubMed, Scopus, and Embase) was conducted by two authors to evaluate studies published from 1990 until May 2023.

Background: Encountering a retained root tip post-extraction and prior to implant placement is a possible clinical complication. There are numerous approaches for removing retained roots that may be traumatic or atraumatic. Regardless of the approach, careful treatment planning is important to minimize complications, reduce morbidity, and preserve bony structures.

Background: This case report demonstrates the use of three-dimensional (3D) models produced from a cone beam computed tomographic (CBCT) volume to develop a treatment strategy for a rare type of dens invaginatus (DI) in a mandibular incisor.
Methods: A patient with DI Type IIIa presented for endodontic treatment. Following CBCT evaluation, the complex morphologic nature of the invagination required additional diagnostic tools for treatment planning.

Intracanal medicaments with maximal antimicrobial efficacy and minimal damage to resident stem cells are essential for successful regenerative endodontic procedures. 2-Hydroxyisocaproic acid (HICA) could have the attributes of a potential intracanal medicament. This study evaluates its cytotoxicity, genotoxicity, and effects on the odontogenic and osteogenic differentiation of the stem cells of the apical papilla (SCAP).

Advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) provides the scaffold and growth factors necessary for stem cells to proliferate and differentiate in successful regenerative endodontic procedures. This study investigates the release of transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) from A-PRF in cell culture media in the presence and absence of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) or Biodentine. Additionally, this research assesses the viability and migration of stem cells of the apical papilla (SCAP) in previously conditioned media.

Many animals use visual signals to communicate; birds use colorful plumage to attract mates and repel intruders. Visual signal conspicuousness is influenced by the lighting environment, which can be altered by human-induced changes. For example, deer-management efforts can affect vegetation structure and light availability.

ToxR, a transmembrane one-component signal transduction factor, lies within a regulatory cascade that results in the expression of ToxT, toxin coregulated pilus, and cholera toxin. While ToxR has been extensively studied for its ability to activate or repress various genes in , here we present the crystal structures of the ToxR cytoplasmic domain bound to DNA at the and promoters. The structures confirm some predicted interactions, yet reveal other unexpected promoter interactions with implications for other potential regulatory roles for ToxR.

This longitudinal cohort study examines if 1) cognitive decline varies by birth cohort, adjusting for covariates, and 2) edentulism and nonuse of dental care predict 10-y cognitive decline (2008-2018). The Health and Retirement Study (HRS) features a representative sample of US adults over age 50. Eligibility criteria included having cognitive interview data available and responding to the question, "Have you lost all of your upper and lower natural permanent teeth?" at 2+ time points between 2006 and 2018.
