Charcot Neuroarthropathy Advances: Understanding Pathogenesis and Medical and Surgical Management.

Understanding new theories of the epidemiology of Charcot neuroarthropathy is practice changing. Treatment of Charcot neuroarthropathy is evolving from a passive approach to one that sees the urgency of proactive, early recognition, thereby avoiding the cascading events that lead to the complex, limb-threatening deformities. Preventive medicine is the most efficient at avoiding severe deformity, with prolonged offloading and immobilization as the current mainstay of treatment.

Crescentic Osteotomy for Revision Hallux Interphalangeal Joint Arthrodesis.

Unlabelled: Treatment for rigid mallet toe deformity of the hallux has commonly consisted of arthrodesis of this interphalangeal joint. However, such procedure is not without complications resulting in operative revision. We report on a case of considerable deformity of the distal phalanx of the hallux following hallux interphalangeal joint arthrodesis that underwent revision using a unique crescentic osteotomy technique.
