In real-world situations, multidimensional data may appear on large-scale tests or psychological surveys. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the quantity and magnitude of cross-loadings and model specification on item parameter recovery in multidimensional Item Response Theory (MIRT) models, especially when the model was misspecified as a simple structure, ignoring the quantity and magnitude of cross-loading. A simulation study that replicated this scenario was designed to manipulate the variables that could potentially influence the precision of item parameter estimation in the MIRT models.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of a Geriatric Pharmacy elective on pharmacy students' knowledge, attitudes, and empathy regarding older adults.
Methods: Enrolled students in a 15-week Geriatric Pharmacy elective during 3 consecutive academic years were invited to complete a precourse and postcourse survey. The survey consisted of the revised Palmore facts on aging quiz, the University of California at Los Angeles geriatric attitudes scale, the Kiersma-Chen empathy scale, and demographic questions.

Dyadic conditions of patients with heart failure and their caregivers may affect both patient self-care and caregiver contribution to patient self-care (CCPS). The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships of patient-caregiver physical function and depressive symptoms to the patient self-care (maintenance and management) and CCPS. Data from 55 were analyzed using an Actor-Partner Interdependence Model to address the aim through AMOS.

Background: Atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a thrombotic microangiopathy that presents with a triad of hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, and acute kidney impairment. It can be attributed to mutations in an array of different complement proteins leading to the overactivation of the complement system, the most impacted being the alternative pathway. Though rare, influenza B has been documented as a potential trigger to the development of aHUS.

Introduction: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a rare and underdiagnosed condition, often presenting with variable symptoms, making it challenging to identify. This case report highlights the clinical relevance of CTEPH, emphasizing its misdiagnosis as asthma and the need for increased awareness in recognizing its atypical presentations.
Objective: To present a case of CTEPH misdiagnosed as asthma, showcasing the importance of early identification and raising awareness about the underrepresentation of this disease.

Objective: The hippocampus is one of the first brain structures affected by Alzheimer's disease (AD), and its atrophy is a strong indicator of the disease. This study investigates the ability of plasma biomarkers of AD and AD-related dementias-amyloid-β (Aβ42/40), phosphorylated tau-181 (p-tau181), neurofilament light (NfL), and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-to predict hippocampal atrophy in adult individuals in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Methods: Eighty-five adult individuals (40 healthy and 45 suspected AD) over 65 years old were evaluated using the Community Screening Instrument for Dementia and Alzheimer's Questionnaire (AQ).

One of the fundamental innovations of pediatric surgery is hepatic portoenterostomy for biliary atresia, widely known as the Kasai procedure for its originator, Morio Kasai (1922-2008), of Sendai, Japan. It was the first effective operation for the "uncorrectable" form of biliary atresia, where death within months from biliary cirrhosis was certain. His radical premise was that microscopic ductules present in the fibrous tissue of the porta hepatis, when transected, drained enough bile to relieve cholestatic jaundice.

Introduction: Professional society awards can substantially impact career trajectory of awardees in neurosurgery. Past studies have discussed the demographics of neurosurgery conference awardees in terms of gender and professional experience; however, a full assessment of awardee qualities and characteristics has yet to be studied.
Objective: The goal of this study is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of neurosurgical society winners that focuses on gender, race, academic degrees, and institutional/geographic affiliation.

The present study deals with the in-silico analyses of several flavonoid derivatives to explore COVID-19 through pharmacophore modelling, molecular docking, molecular dynamics, drug-likeness, and ADME properties. The initial literature study revealed that many flavonoids, including luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol, and baicalin may be useful against SARS β-coronaviruses, prompting the selection of their potential derivatives to investigate their abilities as inhibitors of COVID-19. The findings were streamlined using in silico molecular docking, which revealed promising energy-binding interactions between all flavonoid derivatives and the targeted protein.

Transdermal drug delivery (TDD) is an attractive route of administration, providing several advantages, especially over oral and parenteral routes. However, TDD is significantly restricted due to the barrier imposed by the uppermost layer of the skin, the stratum corneum (SC). Microneedles is a physical enhancement technique that efficiently pierces the SC and facilitates the delivery of both lipophilic and hydrophilic molecules.

Previous studies have identified high rates of burnout among health care workers and health professions faculty. Despite interventions being showcased at national meetings in both posters and platform presentations, there is minimal peer-reviewed published research focusing on professional well-being interventions and their assessments specific to pharmacy faculty. This commentary serves as a call to action to design and publish research related to work-system interventions to decrease burnout and promote professional well-being among all academic pharmacy faculty, and particularly subgroups who may be most at risk, such as women and assistant-level faculty.

Chemical warfare agents, particularly vesicants like lewisite, pose a threat due to their ability to cause skin damage through accidental exposure or deliberate attacks. Lewisite rapidly penetrates the skin, causing inflammation and blistering. This study focuses on developing a cream formulation of a therapeutic agent, called integrated stress response inhibitor (ISRIB), to treat lewisite-induced injuries.

Post-transplant diabetes mellitus (PTDM) is a well-known solid organ transplant complication, which can be related to immunosuppressants, particularly tacrolimus. We report an unusual presentation of PTDM with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). This is unique as PTDM typically resembles Type 2 DM, whereas DKA is associated with Type 1 DM and has rarely been reported as a complication of tacrolimus.

As studied previously, chronic stress environments lead to the formation of distinctive resilience groupings when related to individual outcomes among participants. The majority of the population has decreased mental and physical strength during prolonged periods of mental distress but returns to baseline status when those stressors are removed. Others have increased and decreased mental fortitude despite the removal of stressors.

Background: Studies have explored the connections between tobacco use, sleep and cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks in adults, but no study has examined the link between tobacco use and sleep among adults with CVDs. This study explores the association between tobacco use (cigarette only, e-cigarette only, and dual use) and poor sleep duration among adults with CVDs.
Methods: A sample of 47,180 US adults with CVDs (myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, or stroke) was drawn from the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) cross-sectional survey.
